QB Jameis Winston, NYG (6 Viewers)

It's interesting seeing so many people so personally invested in seeing this guy fail. Actually, interesting probably isn't the right word. Disturbing is probably more apt.
:goodposting: disturbing a great word for it.
Or just wanting justice for a rapist and thief.

But otherwise, yeah, flippancy is cool.
Yea all the off field stuff was hard to ignore. He just kinda seems like that big man on campus D-bag. Especially when the "other" QB in the draft is a guy every father would want his daughter to marry......
I'm just crystallizing and distilling (ahem) one part of the argument. The other side of me wants to give Jameis due process and a chance in the NFL.

I'm very fairly skeptical, but still neutral. I hope he hasn't done those things and then does well. I love cannon arms and brilliance, too.

I don't know what more I can say than that.

:lmao: at all the 'but this QB did this his first week and this other QB did this his first week'.

NFL ready by the way:

“As far as Jameis Winston is concerned, I didn’t realize just how far away he really is as to understanding what he’s doing on the field,” Boomer Esiason said Monday on Toucher & Rich. “He has not a clue what he’s doing on the field. He can’t read defenses.”

See? I can do it too.

Since when was Boomer the go to guy for QB analysis? I could just as much say Gruden thinks he's great. Who's opinion is more valid?

With the way this thread is going I'm not sure many will care, but here's a take from Matt Waldman's Twitter.

"Now to Jameis Winston. For as many drops of 3 steps or less for MM, JW had 5 step drops & deeper looks to begin. All resulted in pressure. Don't want to unfairly characterize JW as having more "big-boy" QB stuff, but definitely in a more traditional scheme vs. more pressure. Winston did things I've anticipated: poor footwork, trying to be hero with throws, but also made plays that give you glimpse of future. Eluded pressure well. Found some second options, Made some tough throws. Willing to be aggressive. Also got into quicksand, but expected. 12 penalties on TB in that game. OL had probably at least 3/4 of them and 3-5 were on good Doug Martin runs. Safe to say, be cautiously optimistic about Mariota and buy low on Winston in dynasty leagues."

There's also this...

Greg Presto @GregPresto

In his first start as a pro, RG3 was 19-26 for 320 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT. So I'm sure we can tell if Winston or Mariota is better right now.

@GregPresto Andrew Luck's first start: 23/45, 1 TD, 3 INT. So.
One week means NOTHING.
It means SOMETHING, but there have been QB's who were terrible and did well. In fact two HOF'ers, Bradshaw and Aikman, were much worse in their first game.

IMO Jameis was worse than the numbers indicate because most of his yards came in the 4th quarter of a blowout after Mariota was given the rest of the night off. However, he did finish above average for rookie QB's starting week 1.

There have only been 3 QB's out of 18 who did worse in a week 1 home game and became successful QB's - Peyton, Flacco, and Bradford. So I'm saying there's a chance, if not a great one.

Your of the Opinion he will be fine, others are not. This is a message board to express such opinions.

So let me get this straight, if someone's opinion differs from yours, they must be trolling?

I have no idea how you could watch that game and come to the conclusion that he's going to be the biggest QB bust in history and out of the league in two years. Worred? Skeptical? Even upset your team (if a Tampa fan) took him over Mariota? Sure. I think cautiously optimistic makes sense too. Colossal bust?

I dare you to re-watch the first 3 quarters - 92 yards passing, 1 TD and 2 INT.

 Seems crazy.

NFL teams keep buying into the Winston-type QB's that will be the next great QB in the NFL and they fail and fail and fail.

Winston will be a has been in 2 years and Mariota will become a TEN legend.

So if Winston shreds this NO defense, haters are just gonna be like "wahh, well it's what he should be able to do against such a bad D anyways."

Can't win with the haters.

For those in leagues that don't deduct for turnovers, I think he can be both a good play on occasion while still being a good go against if you have the opposing defense.

I'm not ready to label him a bust, but he just looks so awkward. His footwork is really bad. He has a cannon though, and getting Evans back should help a lot. I see a similar arc to Stafford. Will put up numbers but have a few terrible games and a bunch of turnovers.

I don't care who he plays - if he can complete 65% of his passes and throw more TD's than INT's I'll be impressed.

Brees, Peyton, and Luck aren't doing that. Are they bad QBS too?
If we're being fair, Peyton has looked awful so far.

~62% is a bare minimum for a decent QB on the season and 12 QB's averaged 65%+ last season. Jameis should be able to have one game with 65%+.

Exactly, people jump to conclusions and hit the panic button based on week 1 at their own peril.

PI in the end zone on Browner put ball on 1, Winston made a heady fake and ran it in for the score.

If Winston plays for a decade and a half, his inaugural game represents a pretty thin time slice of like 1/250th of his career. QBs subsequently proven to be CAPABLE of improving, tend to get better with reps and experience.

SF crushed MIN on MNF, losing 29-3 to PIT today.

Football is crazy. Someone should sell tickets. :)

Right here doosh. It's like his 8th possession of his first game. Not calling it a career yet.

Lovie is way way way worse than Jameis anyhow. Is Winston playing defense?
So the current excuse is HC and defense. Your good talent evaluators can figure out if a guy has it or not before they even play a down in the NFL. This guy doesn't have it like we told you.
Tell me more about your extensive and educated scouting background.
