QB Jameis Winston, NYG (2 Viewers)

Winston and Mariota both trending above their very high expectations at this point, IMO. I'd guess both franchises are very happy.
FWIW, ESPN radio dudes were saying 5 NFL front office guys were asked which of those two they'd rather have going forward; 3 picked MM and 2 picked JW.

Winston vs kap vs wentz this week?  Leaning kap.  just don't want any of Seattle
In my 2 QB league I'm benching Winston. He's my QB2 behind Russell Wilson. I'm starting Eli Manning vs Cleveland ahead of him because of how easy of a matchup that is. However, it's actually closer than one would think. I think Jameis will do fine against Seattle. They got picked apart by Tyrod Taylor and Brady did well against them. The very next week they played against a rookie, Wentz. I think Jameis will have a respectable day. Wentz against GB is tempting though. GB has no fricken defense. Their best CB is allowing a QB rating of over 100. I know the struggles in the Eagles passing game, but that is a matchup that shouldn't be overlooked. Miami's defense has looked real as of late. I would probably go Wentz/Winston/Kaep in that order.

I have Winston and Mariota now.  Mariota has been the easy start for me lately but now I see Cousins on waivers and I'm considering dropping Winston for him.  The other dilemma I have is that I'm very thin at RB and Smallwood and Gillislee are available but I need to drop someone.  Would either drop Winston, AJG or Corey Coleman.

A month ago it was an easy choice to stick with Winston but now I'm not so sure.

Not sure I'd want to stick with Mariota going forward. He's been great recently but has had about as cakewalk of a schedule as you could get the past 2 months. After this week, he has DEN, KC, and HOU with JAX mixed in to end the season.

Which duo do you think is better?

Mariota/Winston

Mariota/Cousins

Wintson/Cousins

It's tough, but looking at schedules and the playoffs, I'd say Winston/Cousins.
I was just looking at the schedules too and I think you're right.  Would feel odd dropping him after the stretch he just had.  Although I like him against the Bears this week but Cousins is projected to score more.

I don't think the eagles offense is good enough to exploit anybody.  not even gb

Of course, the conservative option would be to drop some other low-probability lotto ticket, and carry all 3.  If one gets hurt, or blows up, you'll be glad you did.

Classic Jameis. He really is exactly what this team needed in terms of a culture change. So happy he's a Buc.

The haters/trolls haven't appeared in this thread for a good month or so now. Wonder what they would have to say about this and his recent play.
Good point. Lod?

Let's not pretend Winston is lighting it up this year.  Low completion percentage, 10 ints.  I like how this thread gets bumped by the usual suspects when he had a good game.

He's not but he's putting up very good stats for a 2nd year guy playing behind a mediocre offensive line and 1 legit (albeit a damn good one) NFL quality receiver.  Put another weapon or two in his arsenal and a little more experience he's a top 5 QB.

Two picks in the last 6 games. 6 of his total were in the first 3 games.

There's nothing wrong with his completion percentage. The Bucs are something like 5th highest in depth of passing attempts. He's not checking the ball down.

He did great vs kc last week.  but something is off with kc.  they prob should have won that game if their offense was anything other than average.  they will get blown out by sea

Sorry, I don't buy this.  Evans is a top 5 WR that most QBs would love to have

I think Winston has played very well the past few games.  I suspect he struggles this week against Seattle.  Yards per attempt is not very high if he is in fact throwing down field that much.

He had two bad games and you idiotically called him a bust because you don't understand how young QBs develop?
You idiotically called this clown  a 'generational talent'. Talk about being clueless. Last QB I've seen this uncoordinated is Josh McCown. The guy moves around like he has big clown shows on filled with cement. He's so dumb his pea brain can't tell his legs which way to go.

Wow.  This seems maybe a tad harsh? I think he's been pretty okay this year

He's been more then pretty ok.   He's on pace for a very solid statistical season in real life and fantasy.  He is THE reason that the bucs are winning lately.  Look at the talent around him after Evans. Cecil shorts?  Russell Shephard.  Cameron Brate?  Martin has essentially missed the entire season.  He's had a hodgepodge of mostly backup and 3rd string undersized rbs.   The O line does give him a ton of time.   All role players and not a ton of top flight talent there.

And yet he finds ways to scramble and make huge plays every week. I watched the game vs KC last week and came away super impressed.  Evans dropped a sure TD or Winston would have had 360 and 2tds against one of the better defenses in the NFL.  IN KC.  one of the toughest stadiums to play in.

His teammate and coaches love him.  He makes some boneheaded plays here and there but he will get smarter and make better decisions as he gets more experience and the game starts to slow down more for him.   He's only 2/3 of the way through his 2nd year in the NFL and is already producing better than half of the starting qbs in the league.  There are probably 20 teams that would salivate at the thought of him being their franchise qb.

Not sure where the hate is coming from.

After this week his stats are about to shoot up and he's gonna be a borderline top 5 qb next year

You're a generationally terrible poster. Elite lack of understanding of football.

The question wasn't on Evans talent, but the lack of a second option. Brate is shaping up to be a good TE, but they need another solid WR. Sheppard and Shorts are just journeyman.
This.  Yes Evans is a stud but Brate would start on maybe a handful of teams and none of their other weapons are nothing special.

Just watch him stumble around. He's extraordinarily clumsy. He can't think fast enough to make his legs work right.

Carson Wentz (a rookie from FCSA) has nothing to throw to that even comes close to Evans and he's not far behind Winston in stats.

Winston's a ham and egger on his best days.

You seem to have a personal vendetta against him.  No one else has made this same assessment.
The same as said when I trashed David Carr,  Vince Young and Tebow. Watch the games. He stumbles around a lot. More than any other QB. He's got slow heavy feet.

Well I went back and forth bw Winston and stafford for days.  Both with bad matchups and both at home.   I went stafford.   Only BC I remembered that stafford usually steps up on thanksgiving games.  And I feel like Seattle defense is starting to really heat up while minn defense has been struggling and is banged up.

So far if that first drive is any indication I'll be happy with my choice but I won't be surprised if Winston has a very good game vs Seattle.

On 2nd thought stafford over Winston may have been not so great a decision.  We will see.  Lol

I had the exact same decision to make and went the same way. We had the game from two weeks ago as well to show that Stafford could throw a couple of TDs against the Vikes. Not the best week but I'm relatively happy - his 32 yards was way above his average rushing and salvaged the score up to something that I deem acceptable given what the alternative was in Winston against SEA

I've seen a couple of TB games, and in those games there were several horrendous drops - I mean ball-on-the-numbers type drops.  I really like the steady progression he keeps showing. His TD/INT ratio in the last fee games is well into the positive range.

Briefly heard a stat...what was it...he's the 3rd QB in history with either a throwing or rushing TD in his first 27 games?

Great stuff in there.  However, at the end of the day the numbers do matter.  The wins and losses matter.  You can't use the offensive scheme as a negative and then point out that he leads the league in average pass distance in the same breath.  We can only harp on the lack of weapons, bad defense, offensive line play, offensive scheme, etc. for so long.  At some point the front office and Jameis have to translate all of the potential into wins and deep playoff runs.  The great QB's win in spite of those things.

I'm willing to be patient.  The article pointed out how young he still is, and he is already a great player, and the best QB the Bucs have ever had by a mile (at least that they kept anyway, Steve Young  ).

They've turned a real corner the last two weeks.  But, that's the thing, it has to continue or none of it really matters.

I played Mariota over him and it worked well for me.  Sad I didn't pick up Cousins and start him instead though.  I'm hoping to drop Mariota and pick up Cousins this week to use Winston/Cousin in the playoffs.  I'm considering starting Cousins over Winston this weekend though.
