QB Jameis Winston, NYG (4 Viewers)

I have no idea if he’ll tone down the hero ball if the defense gets more consistent stops. It seems like it might just be his style. You may have to live with it to get the wow plays.
 

What’s that worth? I don’t know how you justify “richest QB contract in history” like Stafford received when he was due, but Stafford is actually a great comparison for Winston. His INT% dropped dramatically after his 5th year. JW is also still just 25 years old...

They need to sign Shaq Barrett to a monster contract. Suh, JPP, and Nassib are all free agents too.

Theres an odd man out or two somewhere in there.

 
The Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud reports Jameis Winston (thumb) is expected to start in Week 15 against the Lions.

Winston was cleared after going for a second opinion on his thumb Monday afternoon. With little chance of risking a longer-term injury while playing through his hairline fracture, he's fully expected to start against the Lions. Winston remains on pace for 5,065 passing yards, which would be the sixth-highest mark in league history.

Naw, that's Fitzpatrick because the media loves him. They scold Jameis, all the time. It's actually sometimes hard to listen to. And ironically they fawn over Jameis's deep ball, which is actually ranked in the last quintile over at the Deep Ball Project, put on as a side hobby by the guys at Football Outsiders. 

To wit: Tampa had the two modern Favres last year and still couldn't figure out how to win, which says a lot about turnovers, the modern game, and how to-the-vest it has become. I mean, we read about passing all the time, but the question usually is, as lod001 will tell you, how deep and how far? True West Coast offenses are things of putridity. Dink. Dank. Dunk. Chains. 

Tampa has none of that ####. I love watching them. I hope they can pull off a winning season, sign Jamies and the core, and continue to be the most fun NFL team to watch on offense.

You really think Griffen brings an 8 win team down to a 2 win team?  Tanking for the top pick is tough in football.  There's always another team that's almost as bad.  A couple weeks into the season, not a single person out there thought Miami would lose that top pick.  You can't play for the top pick in football.... there's a full team of guys trying to win each week.

 
Watched press interviews on Monday for both Jameis and Arians. Very insightful.  For Jameis he's obviously a leader, smart guy and took full ownership saying he's got to fix the turnovers, totally on him.  He praised the coaching staff for telling him to "keep firing".  He also had nothing on his throwing hand.  No splint, bandage, nothing.  He looked fine.  He said the culture has changed and the team expects to win games and they are focused and ending with 6 wins in a row.  He knows he's fighting for his job/contract.

Arians said his offense is complicated.  Especially for the QB, but really the whole team.  It's an explosive offense that when everyone gets it it's tough to stop.  But it takes time.  Said in year 1 they had a ton of picks in Arizona and that went way down in year 2 as everyone got comfortable with it.  Went over each pick and said it was a variety of factors.  Said in the first one Evans ran the route too short.  Then Jameis tried to throw over a taller linebacker which he needs to be more aware of.  But it started with the route.  On the pick 6 he was furious with the missed block by the rb (not sure which one was in there) and said if the block is made Brate is wide open in the middle to walk in the end zone.  Again made his point that the whole team needs to get better picking up the offense.  Overall he praised Winston and the team for fighting and coming back.  He said Winston was afraid of making mistakes earlier and afraid to throw the ball.  What he liked most is right after they pick 6 he led them to a score. He wants him to keep firing downfield. He thinks Winston will be fine for Sunday.  

I don't love Evans being gone but I'm still hoping with these 2 playoff matchups Jameis can get it done.  He still has enough receivers to throw to with Godwin, Perriman, Watson, Howard, Brate, etc.  Detroit will blitz. If he gets time still should have a solid day.

I saw a segment on the NFL network yesterday where it compared Winston's first 69 games to Peyton Manning's first 69, and it looks like this:

It's a good comparison and we all know why the media coverage and resulting popular opinion is otherwise.

Correct.  Same thing with a Favre comparison.  The difference in eras is enormous.  From an efficiency perspective (the turnovers obviously kill him) in today's NFL compared to the other QB's playing right now he's mid to low tier.  The guy is polarizing to say the least.  If the light ever comes though he could be one of the absolute greats.

Me too; I only have Allen as a backup, and I'm trying to convince myself it might be okay "he could rush for 40 and a TD to salvage a decent day."

I have Kyler. I’m starting Winston and praying he’s healthy screw it

 
Can't wait to seem him in the second year of this system.  If he can cut back on the interceptions the sky is the limit.  They need to get him some better OT's & a better blocking RB.  Ronald Jones can run but can't block worth a crap.  Peyton Barber blocks but is a mediocre runner.  Maybe Arians reunites with David Johnson in 2020

Jameis Winston completed 28-of-42 passes for 458 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception in Tampa Bay's Week 15 win over the Lions.

Winston became the first quarterback in league history to toss for 450 yards in consecutive outings, topping his career-high yardage (456) from last week's game against the Colts with the third-most passing yards (458) in Bucs history. The free-agent-to-be unsurprisingly opened the game with an interception on Tampa Bay's first possession but responded with a whopping 308 passing yards in the first half that included pitch-and-catch gains of 51, 34, 33, 26, 25, and 22 yards to Breshad Perriman (5/113/3), Chris Godwin (5/121), and Scotty Miller (3/49/1). On pace for a mind-boggling 5,226 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 27 picks, Winston clearly remains a stud fantasy quarterback despite his consistently poor decision making. He'll undoubtedly be a top-five option against the Texans in Week 16.

I feel like I keep saying this over and over. Great fantasy QB and terrible real life one, but when he's facing a terrible defense... yeah, you get games like this.

BS. He’s not a terrible real life QB. You want terrible I’ll rattle off a bunch not named Winston. He played fantastic today. Throws a beautiful ball. He makes mistakes over the middle but Arians says QBs throw picks in his offense the first year. Threw for 300 yards 10 times so far and over 400 a few more. Evans and Godwin out still threw to the guys who were in there. 
And he’s a fantastic fantasy QB

He throws too many picks to be a good real life QB and I don't care what Arians' excuse is, he's always thrown a ton of picks all the way back to college.  Dude can wing it, but he's not going to win you any championships with the way he throws interceptions.

Doesn’t make him terrible. Strong word. Blake Bortles last year was terrible. Couldn’t throw a spiral

So who would you bring in if you don’t sign him? Cam? Eli? Joe is gone first pick in the draft. Ain’t gettin him. Hurts? What’s the alternative? I’m sure Josh Rosen is available. Maybe Trubisky.

Given the state of quarterbacking, you're going to have to hope to pay him a reasonable starter's salary and go from there. He's proven he's too good when he's good Jameis to not be deserving of a second contract. 

He won't get max, but he'll get Cousins money.

Yeah, if you looked at the schedule before the season it was easy to see the 2nd half was soft, and made softer due to ATL sucking. I think a second year in Arians system will work wonders for this guy like it did Carson Palmer and Peyton Manning.  I don't think Jameis is as smart as Manning so I didn't expect it all to click year one for him.  If they can get better outside blocking he could be a perennial pro-bowler.

 
Eh, he's going to get franchised.

I'd prefer to see them go after Cam if he were proven to look back to his old self after surgery, and he can throw a ball more than 20 yards again.

With due respect, no, I didn't. I also said Foles would get Cousins-esque money because he was the best available and Cousins has set a new market. Cousins did, it's just that Jameis won't set a new market.
