QB Justin Fields, NYJ (2 Viewers)

At this point, for the Steelers as an organization, it's time to see 17 games from Fields to see what they really got. I think it's time to get something in return for Russ. Anything. Maybe hot dog buns for 2 home games. Broncos are paying all but 1.2 million of his contract this year. Someone will give something. Imo
Fins would probably be the only ones desperate enough to offer anything.

Stillers would be smart to take anything 5th rd or better. They signed him for free and paid him peanuts to light a pilot light under their new franchise QB. A mid-rounder would be incredibly sweet icing on some seriously good business.
Maybe their plan is to wait until his calf heals to get better value out of him?

I say strike while the Dolphish think they can still salvage their season.

His calf's fine IMO. Just a smokescreen to keep the media from trying to create a QB controversy.

I think Russ is hurt.

Calf injury at beginning of training camp. Played 1 quarter or so of preseason and later reinjured the calf from what I can tell. Local radio says he was very limited in practice yesterday.

If that’s all they get in return for Russ, why not just keep him as a veteran backup in case something happens to Fields? This team will go as far as the health of the defense takes them. A veteran like Russ to manage the game and let the defense do its thing is a nice luxury to have.

For me. Once again all my opinion. You love qb competition. It pushes people, but there comes a point where you got all you can out of it and it could backfire. In this case, Russ being there pushed Fields to where we are today. Fields is the clear #1 QB in the roster. Now remove the competition and let Fields take a breath and move forward without the distraction. I dont have any inside sources, but my gut thinks this idea of Russ from the beginning was used to push Fields. It worked. They are 3-0 and Fields, at least looks like a guy they can work with. From a franchise standpoint, I go all in on him by removing the distraction.

They should add “tendinitis in his Achilles” to his injury.

Calf injuries are no joke. Once you pull it the reinjury is high until you are well past fully healthy. The worst part about is is you feel fine and can run and cut and then "pop" it just goes again out of the blue.

If it is true he reinjured it a 2nd time its probably a 4 week min recovery if not 6 weeks to be sure. I've had it before and its one of the worst injuries. Rodgers had it a few years back and he really struggled with it flaring up and continual reaggravation.

As for Russ I think PIT wants to keep him as insurance but I would like to see what he could do for this year on MIA. Save the FINS playmakers.

Will yall finally believe me about Justin Fields. It’s always been there. He works too hard & is too humble not to succeed.

Maybe he finally found a franchise that believes in him
What he found is a franchise that doesn't let the other team score any points and makes sure he doesn't screw it up.
Let me fix this for you:

"What he found is a well run franchise that doesn't F things up."

Because they want to win and Russ as a backup is good insurance if Fields gets hurt or all of a sudden fails. Lots of needy teams for QB but I don't see them moving Russ.

But if Rus is still hurt or high chance his calf flares up, why would the Dolphins want to trade for him?

Especially if this is becoming a reoccurence issue for him.

Russ has already sat for 3 weeks is it? 1-2 more weeks of rest and Russ will be good to go. Maybe MIA can salvage teh season. It is more just hope on my part.

I don't believe PIT is trading him.

Neither do I. Plus in 1-2 more weeks to get healthy then the added additional time to learn the system, the Dolphins season could be in the tank anyway.

Sure. Where's he at in everyone's fantasy league rankings? About 20th? They're not asking him to do a whole lot. Maybe that changes?

With the RB's banged up going against the weak Colt run D, can this please be the Fields running game breakout with the Steelers.

Good point there, would be nice to see a bit more rushing from Fields. I do think this is probably the game CPatt gets 10+ touches. Najee will get 20 targets and CPatt get a healthy dose too. Cpatt had 9 touches last week and didn't play the whole game.

Starting him over Caleb & Darnold this week. Possibly starting him over Jordan Love too.
Think I’m gonna do the same. I’d have to unfortunately drop Dell to pick him up and start over Richardson.
I probably wouldn’t drop Dell.
I wouldn't either. I'd ride out Richardson a bit longer. Has to be someone else to drop rather than Dell.
Doesn’t look like he’s playing. I’ll wait until I can throw him in my IR spot over Mitchell. Thanks.

Okay. Big game in a loss. Two fumbles, one lost and sacked four times.

It's easy to suggest this loss is on the Steelers defense but, did Fields do enough to keep his hold on the job?

Watched the game. He played lights out in the second half. Literally carried the team with big throws and runs. The first fumble was a bit of a scrambled drill where he slipped trying to make something out of nothing. Probably on him, but not a huge deal. The second fumble was not at all on him. The center snapped the ball when he was looking to the right reading coverage.
Pits line looked horrible in the first half and were just getting manhandled by Indy. Good adjustments by the Steelers play calling in the second half.
Fields was the reason this game was even close.

Nobody's mentioning how the colts defense gave up alot of rushing yards previous weeks. This week not so much. Steeler's at one point only had 1 RB healthy Shampkin. Najee was out a few plays. Najee runs hard. Unfortunately his game speed will never be up to par with most fans liking.

Steelers defense werent up to the challenge in the first half. They gave up a season high in rushing yards.

Cordaralle Patterson gave them a nice lift. Unfortunately he hurt his ankle.

Justin keeps proving himself.

Primetime matchup against an opponent who can (sometimes) put up a lot of points. No Demarcus Lawrence and Parsons is currently limited.

Right? Poor guy. Talk about draining a guy's confidence. No one likes being on the hook and knowing one mistake is going to get you yanked for "the other guy".

He's doing well enough to be confirmed the de-facto starter.
I trust Tomlin to know how to manage his players, I'm guessing they know the truth inside the locker room. It probably has more to do with gamesmanship than anything.

Yeah. I’ve been riding Mahomes and holding the top waiver position. Fields is out there and I think it’s time to use it.

Wait! Are you one of those guys who starts a hot player from the wire, or your bench< and then they immediately tank?

If so, please don't.

No. I’m the guy that hammers his “guys” he drafted into their starting spot for way too long because I’m stubborn.

If it makes you feel better… I picked up Goedert in week 3 before kickoff.

It has the feel of protecting Wilson’s fragile ego to me. Wouldn’t be surprised if Tomlin and Fields are on the same page with how it’s playing out.

I agree that Fields should be the starter going forward but I would not deal Russ at this point. We see a team like Miami struggling after losing their starter. The Steelers have arguably the best back-up in the league in Wilson ad they're only on the hook for about 1.2 million of his salary. Fields has missed time when he was with the Bears. There is no guarantee that he makes it through the season unscathed and now it looks like there is a decent chance they're a playoff team. If they trade Russ and Fields goes down in week 12 when they're 8-4, whatever round draft pick the get for Russ will not have been worth it. Just keep things the same and hope Fields stays healthy and balls out the rest of the year. if he goes down you still have a chance with Russ around.

The Pickens fumble cost them the game, not Fields.

This was his best performance of the year & the confidence is building. He’s their QB1.

No way they make a change. Not a chance.

I'm having a hard time cutting Brian Thomas Jr or Chase Brown for JF. I have Jaylen Daniels as a starter. Literally killing me. Third in line to cut would be Jonathan Brooks.

There is zero chance Wilson gets traded. Zero.

They're not keeping him as a hedge against Fields turning into a pumpkin, they're keeping him because they have a playoff caliber team and, even diminished as he is as a player he is one of the best backups in the league. Probably the best backup as it relates to playoff experience.

Literally? You should probably pick him up then.
