He would sign it just to call the Redskins bluff and force them to rescind the offer. The Redskins would have to keep the $29-34MM in cap space available which would make them miss out in free agency on other players. No team is going to give up anything for the right to pay Cousins $34MM for one season, they would want him to negotiate a long term deal which he'd refuse to do until the Skins gave him his freedom.
They can't rescind it. Once he signs he's got the money, period. Even if they cut him they still have to write him a $34M check, that stays on their cap, and Cousins gets to go sign the new deal of his choice. Depending on how much someone wanted to front-load a contract Kirk could make $80M - $90M in 2018 alone!

They can pull the tag any time before the deal that goes along with it is signed. After it is signed, like Hankmoody said, Cousins is going to get that money from the Skins or another team they trade him to. The only other possibility is that Cousins signs a different deal with either team (obviously not going to happen with the Skins).
I don't think they have any intention of doing it. I think floating the story that they might tag him is just vindictiveness from the front office, or something else equally as silly like "see, we're still in charge here if we want to be."

I am very curious to see how Cousins does with a coach other than Jay Gruden. Because it is easy to say Cousins hasn't proven he can win a game that matters, but it's also true to say Jay Gruden hasn't proven he can coach to win a game that matters.
I don't disagree about Gruden, but most of those late losses were square on Cousins. Terrible turnovers and bad throws.
I think it's odd people seem to be equating the MIN and DEN situations as win-now. MIN nearly made the SB with their backup QB and are ~$50mil under the cap. While den was last place in their own division, according to profootballfocus they had an SRS rating that was 29th in the league and they are ~$25mil under the cap. Browns have some young talent and crazy good draft capital and a new good O coordinator and tons of cap space to sign Cousins +.

The Browns have sucked MAINLY because we have had terrible TERRIBLE QB play. Cousins would solve that problem.
The dawg pound better hope they do a better job with it than the 92 colts did with their top picks. Not that emtman and Coryatt were horrible, but not what they wanted.
Assuming Kirk, I want to trade down from BOTH picks. 1 down to 5 or 6. 4 down to 15 or with Buffalo and their two 1sts and more. If we traded down from both picks and picked up two more future 1sts we might still have the most draft capital ever. Would be close anyway.

This is unfortunately very true.
Cousins hasn't won 10 games in a season yet either. Maybe Cleveland will have more talent than he had to work with in Washington. But 10 wins seems a stretch right now. Their schedule outside the division isn't particularly tough, so that helps a bit.
Not sure the division will be tough. Cincy and Baltimore are not exactly the best these days. Steelers obviously still real good.

I'll bash the browns as much as anyone but if all their players perform to potential, they sign cousins, and hue/Haley are competent, they could be average. Maybe slightly above.
You would also be subtracting the worst QB play in the league from the last two years, and adding quite a huge amount in the draft and free agency. I suppose also subtracting a GM who was essentially tanking for the past two years and adding a GM who plays to win.
I did miss the second sentence. Unfortunately it does not change the fact that Jackson will be the coach in 2018.
