Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports it's looking "stronger and stronger" that the Chargers will acquire Tennessee's No. 2 overall pick, and draft Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.
Per Cole's sources, Philip Rivers and San Diego's No. 17 overall pick would be "just a start" in trade talks. We've still yet to see the smoking gun that this is going to happen, but nothing has been done to squash the rumors. It's not a fairy tale.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer expects the Browns to make a "strong pitch" for Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.
The Browns haven't worked out Mariota, but that means little this time of year. Teams routinely eschew such visits yet draft the player. The Browns have unique perspective into the draft's No. 2 quarterback, as new QBs coach Kevin O'Connell spent six weeks mentoring Mariota before arriving in Cleveland. This isn't the first report linking Cleveland to Mariota. Owner Jimmy Haslam is consumed by the idea of finding a "franchise quarterback." With the Nos. 12 and 19 picks, the Browns have the ammunition to make a draft-day move.

Marcus Mariota - QB - Ducks
Reese's Senior Bowl Executive Director and ESPN Insider Phil Savage said the hypothetical trade of Philip Rivers and picks for the No. 2 pick "makes so much sense" for both the Titans and Chargers.
"For the Tennessee Titans, they need to win now," Savage wrote on Twitter. The former NFL GM noted that Titans HC Ken Whisenhunt coached Rivers in 2013 and Rivers is from Athens, Ala., 1.5 hours from Nashville. "For the Chargers, (the trade) avoids stalemate/franchise tag in '16, answers long-term QB issue with Marcus Mariota and creates excitement if moving to LA," Savage tweeted.

Marcus Mariota - QB - Ducks
NFL Media draft analyst Charles Davis said Philadelphia's nightmare draft scenario is Cleveland consummating a trade for Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.
"If Mariota begins to slide a bit, we all know which direction the chatter will turn to -- when will Chip Kelly make a move up from No. 20 to land his former Oregon quarterback?" Davis wrote. "Kelly has said he won't mortgage the future to trade up for Mariota, but if he falls to the Giants at No. 9, it should surprise no one if GM Jerry Reese's phone starts ringing." Of course, this assumes that the Titans aren't able to extract a ransom for the No. 2 pick. But we'll play along in the thought exercise, which probably works just as well for the No. 2 slot itself. Davis said the Browns, one of two teams that have two first-rounders (Saints), have more ammunition in draft equity to move up the board than Philadelphia and could do so if properly motivated. "Well, that would be a buzzkill, to say the least, in Philadelphia," he wrote.

Co-signI don't see how you take Winston over this kid. Not IRL and not in fantasy either.
I would LOVE this for Mariota. Quality weapons and a great OC in Koetter (fantasy wise at least).I'm starting to get a gut feeling he goes #1.
Money on the line, I say Winston... But something just seems... fishy. Fishy enough for me to believe we see a Ben Roethlisberger face from Winston on draft day.

I do find it interesting that every fan in America can quote Jameis' 18 INTs but no one talks about Mariota's 27 fumbles.
http://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/32xpss/gif_breakdown_marcus_mariotas_7_fumbles_and_4/Mariota fumbled the ball seven times this season and lost four of them. Most of his fumbles this season seemed to be on handoffs and due to him not being cognizant enough to protect the football in the pocket. The handoff issue happening more than once is an issue because Mariota rarely snapped the ball from under center at Oregon. This ball transition from the center to the quarterback will need to be practiced and refined to ensure that he doesn't lose the ball. As far as Mariota's interceptions, two of them were due to inaccuracy while one of them was due to missing an underneath linebacker.
Quarterbacks that throw picks in college generally throw picks in the pro's. I'd imagine fumbling is a lot more correctable with professional coaching.Matt Miller on Twitter:

The system that the Ducks ran calls for a lot of reads while handing the ball off - this is not a designed play action pass, but rather an option run for the QB. The QB is responsible for these reads and quite often you'll see a fumble when the RB thinks the ball is his, and the QB is trying to pull it out... and the ball slips somewhere between them. It's certainly the QB's fault, but it's something that seems to occur to any team that runs this style of play.Quarterbacks that throw picks in college generally throw picks in the pro's. Overall great job, but I don't get Hewlett saying he wanted Mariota to get 'mad' and fire up his team ala Manziel.QB Coach Will Hewlett compares Marcus Mariota to Tom Brady
Like Mariota, Brady needs a system that allows him to succeed.

Joe Montana didn't need to fire players up and like 'Joe Cool' I think 'Mellow Marcus' will be just fine as a leader.
Asked whether the Browns were open to trading up for Oregon QB Marcus Mariota, coach Mike Pettine replied "sure, why not?"
It was a cheeky response to a question Pettine would obviously never answer truthfully, but by all indications, the Browns remain in play for the Oregon signal caller. Owner Jimmy Haslam has decreed that a franchise quarterback must be found, and his team boasts the Nos. 12 and 19 overall picks. Cleveland is not Mariota's most likely destination, but it cannot be ruled out.

Oregon QB Marcus Mariota trade rumors will "pick up intensity in the coming week" and "the Cleveland Browns are the front runners and working hardest in the hopes of acquiring the quarterback," reports TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline.
"Early last week I was told the asking price from the Tennessee Titans was both of the Browns first round picks as well as their choice in the second round, to which Cleveland replied no," Pauline wrote. "Understandable Tennessee would have a high asking price at this point and even more understandable the Browns would say no. I’m told the Browns may be willing to part with both first round picks for Maroita but want to hold on to the second round choice to draft a much needed receiver." The Browns, owners of the Nos. 12 and 19 picks, employ QB coach Kevin O'Connell, who mentored Mariota before officially signing on in Cleveland. A handful of other teams led by Philadelphia figure to make offers to Tennessee before all is said and done.

TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline reports the Browns are the "front runners" to trade up and acquire Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.
This, of course, assumes the Bucs select Jameis Winston at No. 1 overall. According to Pauline, who is one of the kings of the pre-draft process, the Titans asked for the Browns Nos. 12 and 19 selections in the first round, as well as Cleveland's second-round pick in order to move up to No. 2 overall. The Browns turned them down. That's not an out-of-hand asking price from the Titans.

That probably seemed like such a good idea when they started crafting it.

An NFL analytics director believes Oregon QB Marcus Mariota should have been ranked higher on Mel Kiper's rankings than FSU's Jameis Winston.
"He does almost everything better than Winston and measures better in every category," the director said. A different analytics director expressed surprise that Mariota turned out to be bigger than expected. "ESPN's player-comparison tool sees Mariota as most athletically similar to Jake Locker and physically similar to Locker and Robert Griffin III among players with at least eight common data points," wrote Mike Sando. "Ryan Tannehill is very similar physically, except he has smaller hands. However, Tannehill did not work out at the combine, so he did not share enough data points with Mariota to factor."

Jfc. Bradford tebow Sanchez mariota?
Bradford and two 1sts has been my guess since the Eagles acquired Bradford.Jfc. Bradford tebow Sanchez mariota?
Wouldn't Cleveland be better off just trading up for Mariota. They'd have him at a reasonable salary for five years, and while there'd be a risk of him busting, what has Bradford done so far to show he's a franchise QB himself?
Doesn't seem likely. That trade was made right at the beginning of the league season. Bradford comes with a $13MM salary and the need to offer him a multi year extension before he even plays a game for your team. I think he's a pretty good QB, but is far from proven and while I hate the "injury prone" label, he hasn't managed to show he can stay healthy.Wouldn't Cleveland be better off just trading up for Mariota. I thought Chip already had a deal in principle with the Titans when he traded for Bradford. Wonder if we'll ever find out if that was the case.
Marcus Mariota (Oregon)

Mariota has the highest QBASE projection since 2012. Since 1995, only six quarterbacks -- Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer, Donovan McNabb, Russell Wilson, Robert Griffin III and Peyton Manning -- had better projections. QBASE sees Mariota as a three-year starter who posted huge numbers without any weak point. Adjusting for opposition and teammates, Mariota's adjusted yards per attempt in his last college season, relative to other Division I quarterbacks, trails only Wilson and Griffin. In addition, QBASE likes that Mariota's completion percentage is high relative to his peers
But are Mariota's numbers a product of the talent that surrounded him and the system in which he played? Mariota's projection accounts for Oregon having two tackles and a center projected to go in the early rounds of the 2015 and 2016 drafts, but makes no adjustments for Oregon's unusual pace of play. Questions about Mariota's ability to adapt to a more standard NFL offense do lend a note of caution to his projection. At the same time, the model also ignores Mariota's potential off-field strengths. And the two other quarterbacks with top-10 projections who got the most questions about their college production translating to the NFL -- Wilson and Aaron Rodgers -- both turned out well, although the concerns with Wilson and Rodgers were different from those with Mariota.
Simply put, there has not been a quarterback in the last three drafts with Mariota's chances of being an upper-tier to elite-level quarterback. He is far from a sure thing, but quarterback-hungry teams should not let Mariota slip by.

I really think all the Mariota to the Eagles talk is just speculation based on obvious reasons. I just don't see how it happens.
For fans like you I hope you get Mariota. I'm jaded by all the awful FSU Bucs fans who want Winston and have said they deserve him, but that's not fair to all the decent Bucs fans.God I hope the Bucs draft Mariota. I have been a fan since their inception,We havn't had a decent QB since
Doug Willams.I know most experts are saying draft Winston, but if they do that I am going to have to give up on them and revert back to being a Dolfan.I believe there are a lot of us who feel the same.
