QB Patrick Mahomes II, KC (3 Viewers)

Patrick Mahomes completed 29-of-48 passes for 275 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Chiefs' 20-17, Week 8 win over the Giants Monday night.

Averaging just 5.7 yards per attempt against the Giants defense marked the fourth time Mahomes has failed to top 6.0 yards per attempt in a game this season. The Chiefs moved the ball right down the field on the opening drive only for Mahomes to toss his lone interception, misfiring on an end-zone pass to Josh Gordon that tipped into the air and was picked off in the paint. Mahomes should have easily thrown a couple more picks in this one and just doesn't look right. His one touchdown was a first-quarter, six-yard hookup with Tyreek Hill, who seems to be the only Kansas City pass-catcher capable of making plays right now. After throwing 14 touchdowns Weeks 1-4, Mahomes has just five touchdowns and six picks over the last four weeks. He'll remain a fantasy QB1 next week against the Packers, but things need to turn around quick.

Bought into this team from a fantasy perspective. Jeez- ####### trash so far

Thought I was "buying low" but looks like it has lower to go, much lower. Jokes on me, Jesus Christ

Most his passing yards were rushing yards by receivers with extra steps.  PM completed very few passes that were not near the line of scrimmage…..

I’m hoping he comes out of this for a late season push but it seems like the kind of thing — whether it’s mental or the offense is out of synch, whatever it might be — that is tough to change in-season. I’m confident he’s fine long term.

So teams take away the deep ball and it just turns this offense into a joke? I don’t know enough about playcalling and play design but it seems like you should be able to figure something out with two speedsters (Hill, Hardman) and an elite tight end.

Mahomes is hurt IMO.

Far from calling his career toast, but I recall a LOT of hype just a couple years ago about how Mahomes was the new Brady... to the point people were projecting at what point he would blast past Brady in all these stat categories including rings.

Meanwhile Tom is STILL out here winning and setting personal bests.

Wild, and only further reenforces how incredible Brady and this run is.

to be fair in three years as a starter he has gone....

AFC Championship game loss to the GOAT (easily could have been a win (offsides/coin flip) and then a SB where Rams put up a total of 3 points...

Super Bowl

This is his lowest of lows for sure. He's forcing things, and sometimes creating his own pressure by scrambling to the side, when he could easily run, or step up in the pocket instead. Saw him hobbling at least once last night, so who knows what's exactly going on physically as well.

2018: Lost AFC Title game to the GOAT

2019: Won Superbowl

2020: Lost Superbowl to the GOAT

2021: May not even make the playoffs, while GOAT is Superbowl Favorite.

He's doing very well, but not making a case of overtaking the GOAT anytime soon with that resume ;)

He's been bad but very bad running game as well as a lousy OL is not helping....he has a ton of pressure on him every time he drops back.....also hes not getting the usual help from Kelce who looked out of it last pm.  I think they will turn it around but this seems like more than just a Mahomes regression thing...

I was able to get Burrow in a late round as backup and bye week fill in for Mahomes. After Mahomes’ not great performance on MNF I was ready to put Burrow in there this week but with the GB-KC matchup expected to be a high scoring game I penciled Mahomes back in. Now with the Rodgers news I think I’ll go with Burrow.

The Chiefs and Mahomes will always throw. Even when they want to run, it will be short throws or pure runs. Just hard to bench Mahomes right now even still.

Patrick Mahomes completed 20-of-37 attempts for 166 yards and one touchdown in the Chiefs' Week 9 win over the Packers.

It's fair to question Mahomes' status as a no-brainer fantasy option following his third straight wretched outing. Averaging a bleak 4.48 yards per attempt and throwing just one (short) score to Travis Kelce, an out-of-rhythm Mahomes again struggled mightily against two high safeties -- an easily replicable defensive look that has ended the Kansas City offense as we know it. Mahomes has scored just 25 fantasy points over his past three games combined -- a truly unbelievable fall from grace for a formerly unbeatable fantasy football producer from 2018 to 2020. He's shown that if he can't connect on bombs to Tyreek Hill early and often, he has a shaky fantasy floor. Fantasy managers in 12-team leagues should embrace the darkness and consider high-end streaming options when KC plays the Raiders in Week 10.

I don’t whatsoever believe that it’s bc after 3 years he just can’t read a defense well enough when the D shows him a 2-high look. I think he’s got a seemingly innocuous injury or something that’s throwing him off. The ball looks weird coming out of his hand, off and on, for weeks now. I think something’s wrong. No idea what it is, but something’s off and I don’t think it’s his ability to read a defense all of a sudden. The league didn’t just figure him out with this ridiculously simple adjustment after all this time. He’s shredded the same defensive looks many times in the past.

He looked like a lesser Teddy Bridgewater. I couldn’t believe his attempts/yards ratio all day. C’mon Reid - you can’t figure out how to beat 2 high safeties?

One season (2016? Have to look it up), Drew Brees played through an oblique injury all season and never let on until the off season. And in 2020, he played with cracked ribs for two games without letting it be known. After a rough second-quarter sack against the Niners (? going from memory), he finally couldn't answer the second-half bell. Turned out he ended up with eleven cracked ribs.

Mahomes could be doing something similar -- concealing an injury to stay on the field.

That’s the narrative making the rounds but it’s not that specific defensive look that’s causing all this, no way—you can find many games over the preceding two years where he shredded those same looks.

I think he's spooked. And for good reason. The Bucs sucked the will right out of him in the Super Bowl, and Orlando Brown is a freaking turnstyle over on the left side. So he's bailing way early on the pocket and just rushing everything.

And Reid is certainly doing him no favors with his play calls nor is he really providing help for Orlando Brown on the left side of that line.

Following up my prior post - Mahomes definitely looks awful but still getting a ton of pressure, not much running game and his usual reliable receiver are just not delivering...that last play to Hill to lock up the game was vintage KC O - maybe that will get them going as it cant get much worse

They're not running enough, period. Look at the runs Wiliams and Gore were pulling off; sometimes you gotta keep running and literally run/short pass a team out of coverage, which is something they were willing to do their SuperBowl year. How many times did we see a solid 1st down run and then KC go immediately pass-pass? You have to be willing to run it down their throats and KC just isn't.

Don't the Chiefs have one of the best centers in football in Creed Humphrey? How bad is the rest of the oline?

Its actually one of the best OLs in the NFL.
on paper....

have watched every snap....Mahomes has had very few clean pockets that hold up.....seems like the rush (often with just 4) is getting home right when he would normally be getting rid of the ball.....causing him to step up or worse (sideways) and then have to reload....causing the initial timing to be off with the receivers.....and then the out of pocket magic just hasn't been there as teams have dropped several in coverage and have taken away the plays over the top....

Interesting, I see Mahomes bailing on pretty clean pockets, and inviting pressure.

there may be some of that as well.....he does seem to be getting happy feet at the first sign of any pocket disruption.....but the pocket is getting some consistent disruption IMO right when he would normally be pulling the trigger....

After finding quick success seems like he’s fine just being an okay quarterback while he focuses on making commercials and marketing himself.

IMO one of the major issues is that Mahomes just doesn't like/almost refuses to take sacks.....(the SB showed us that)...he has the mentality that if he can just keep things alive for just a little longer he can make a play off script...often a big one....he was successful doing so in the past....this year, not so much....so even if the pocket isn't fully compromised, he is bailing at the first sign of disruption.....I honestly don't think he trusts his line to hold up right now....hopefully that gets changed soon....this team needs a bye week in a bad way, but still has a couple weeks to wait...I haven't lost confidence that they can figure things out....as badly as they have played they have pulled the last two games out....and honestly were on their way to beating BAL at BAL before the CEH fumble.....things would feel a little different if that game ended the way it was shaping up to....huge game this Sunday night....should tell us a lot...

Every play looks challenging for this team right now. Nothing seems to mesh and they are not able to manage down and distance very well. Put simply they have zero rhythm on offense. Pat seems to continue to be looking towards the furthest man downfield most of the time instead of taking what is given. That Packer game was abysmal and they should have lost to Jordan Love’s group. I can only imagine how embarrassing that game would have been if Rodgers was playing. OBJ could be a savior if they can make it happen….or maybe Pat is not reading the field well…hard to tell without all-22.

This is pretty dumb. Why do people want to go out of their way to hate fun players. He’s in a funk right now and things aren’t working…why do you have to take it to this next level and make it weird?

Patrick Mahomes said he will continue to "take shots" no matter opposing defensive schemes.

“I think, just in general, even when we’re not connecting on them, it still tells that defense they have to back up, and it opens up stuff underneath,” Mahomes explained. “Taking those shots during the game, even if they’re not connecting, it kind of puts a little bit of a fear into the defense to know they can’t start coming up; they can’t start jumping some of our routes." Coach Andy Reid confirmed as much, stating "if it’s a situation where it’s equal or depending on the matchup, you take the shot." Mahomes has averaged fewer than 6.0 yards per attempt in four of his last five starts but clearly does not intend on launching downfield into shell coverage any time soon. He remains a low-end QB1 for Week 10 against the Raiders.

Mahomes completed 15-of-29 passes for 184 yards and an interception, adding four carries for 12 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' Week 13 win over the Broncos.

It wasn’t Mahomes’ best day, as he missed an uncharacteristic amount of easy throws. He only engineered one touchdown drive, which he capped off by scampering into the end zone himself. His one interception wasn’t a great throw, but it did ricochet off the hands of Tyreek Hill before falling into Patrick Surtain’s arms. That was a theme tonight, as multiple Chiefs struggled with drops. Despite the mediocre performance, Mahomes remains a strong fantasy option moving forward. He gets the Raiders in Week 14.

I know Denver has a solid defense but this was a home game and there were a lot of missed opportunities through drops and misfires...they dont even take deep shots anymore.  I am shocked at how lost the entire O looks and Reid as well....going into fantasy playoffs nothing we can do but just hope it magically reverses....

If I'm a betting man I think Reid turned the keys over to Bieniemy for a a couple of reasons:

1. to help him try and get a HC gig

2. because Reid is mentally checked out right now because of his son's issues

What I see is Reid has scripted the first 15 plays or so of every game. Most of our first drives look good: smart playcalling with a nice mix of quick passes, runs, and a few downfield throws. An efficient looking offense.

After that it goes to hell. I think that's when Bieniemy has been taking over. Because the play calling after that first drive is awful.

Just my .02

The regression of Mahomes and the entire KC offense is one of the greatest mysteries of the 2021 FF season to me....and I'm not being hyperbolic.

Back-to-back SB appearances, supposedly improved o-line, healthy skill players, arguably the top WR and TE in the NFL, a QB that can scramble, CEH and D. Williams more than adequate for a run/backfield threat.

It's almost like Mahomes has been broken mentally. This was a guy that was already being talked about as one of the greatest of all time. Is it possible that last years resounding SB defeat (31-9) at the hands of old-man-Brady have a Vanderjadt effect on him?

Defenses playing 2 deep? Kill them underneath with those TE/RB weapons. Defenses playing up? Kill them over-the-top with 2 of the fastest WR's in the league.

What's going on here? It's truly bizarre to watch.

I think this is it. He just doesn't have that same look. That same fire on the sidelines.

It's like that Tampa Bay defense stole the soul out of him.

But, he is also a new dad this year. If he's like any other first time dad I'm sure his world is turned all inside and out just because of THAT.

Really hate starting this guy- league loser right now.

But, it's the Raiders next week so I expect QB1 numbers, but I should expect nothing TBH. I'd be better off streaming

I came in here to ask what’s the deal with Patrick not being Mahomesy and Kansas City not being Chiefs.

Reading through the last couple pages I see everyone else is a# mystified as me.
