QB Shedeur Sanders, CLE (2 Viewers)

I get that the phone call was cruel and the person was a jerk, but I also don't feel bad for Sanders.

He's already a millionaire and will get to play football for a living.

There are like a billion kids less fortunate than him on this planet. He's going to have a lot more adversity than prank calls to deal with in life.
Well, he's already in the hole for 11 million dollars for beating up that security guard.

Solid move. Fight for the starting spot in a QB room where it’s definitely wide open.
For a 5th? Please. Makes total sense and is a medium risk, HIGH reward kind of pick.

But, to be honest, glad the Raiders didn’t use a pick in this range for him, so I’m being hypocritical.

Pretty sure that was Shiloh

Ahh..thanks for the correction!

It really is the perfect spot, as he will be able the measure and prove himself against Flacco, Gabriel, Pickett, and Watson (I assume Watson is still a thing; he's way off my radar).

Step 1: prove your better than Gabriel the first moment you step on a practice field.

Watson's recovering from a re-rupture of his Achilles. He'll be in the room to brighten up their days and provide moral support. Pumping them up when they need it. Helping them to navigate hard issues, should they arise.

Gabriel is going to be motivated, will shadier?

Part of me is rooting for him to succeed because that had to be awful waiting to get picked and having the whole world talking about you in a negative way.

On the other hand, if he does succeed I don't think I can handle Deion constantly running his mouth about it.

Vikings trade a 5th rounder for Sam Howell instead of using it to take Sanders. Now that's gotta be embarrassing
honestly this is more realistic than embarrassing.

if you take Sanders you are taking a guy who wants to start and thinks hes good enough to do so. has the attitude to go with it.

Sam Howell has had a bloody lip or two at the NFL level and is more likely to accept a backup job at the NFL level.

this is about fit for what they want. Minny has their QB of the future on the roster (at least it seems that is the belief) so they are not gonna bring someone in who wants to compete with him.

Good on the Browns. WIth all the risks taken with character and injury in the NFL Draft, this is just laughable.

We'll see, but there very well could be a lot of smug people learn a very good lesson here, including a lot of GMs.
Totally worth it.

Considering the players taken in last 60 picks, the Browns made a good move. If it's a disaster, bye, later, no big deal.

5th round pick? Browns fans should be happy
at this point in the draft if a 5th round pick causes issues, you are not THAT invested in the player. its easy to walk from that pick. different if its a first or 2nd round pick.

I actually thought hed reach that tipping point in round 4 but teams wanted to wait a little longer.

this is probably a good point in the draft for the browns to take this risk.

Browns traded up with the Seahawks to select Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders with the No. 144 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

After some of the darkest hours of their lives, the nation’s “takes merchants” can finally rest easy. Sanders (6'2/212) has a new home, albeit four rounds later than most draft prognosticators expected. Most, but not all. Many saw Sanders’ slide coming. The questions are why it persisted to this degree, and why a supposed top prospect now finds himself battling Day 2 pick Dillon Gabriel for reps behind veterans Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco. Ludicrously efficient and accurate for a 2024 Buffaloes team that narrowly missed the playoff, Sanders arrives as a polarizing Heisman finalist who lives off short passes and takes many, many sacks. The good news is, he cut his 2024 pressure-to-sack rate from a miserable 25.0 to a more palatable 20.5. Despite the quarterback takedowns, Sanders also posted a 5.2 to 1.2 “big time throw to turnover-worthy play” rate. He turns the ball over at a well below average clip. Part of that is Sanders’ microscopic aDOT, though he is lethally accurate on his short throws. Sanders led the nation with a 74 percent completion percentage in 2024. Although Sanders could eventually max out as a next generation Andy Dalton, that wouldn’t be a bad thing. It would, of course, be a great outcome for a fifth-round pick. Poised and tough, Sanders is a floor-based selection whose general competence could make him something more if he is able to further decrease his sack rate in the big leagues.

I don’t remember Colorado “narrowly missing the playoffs”.

He’s an easy cut now as a 5th. You act up, you get cut.
this is exactly why now was a good time to take him. if any off field issues creep in you can cut him with literally no worry.

if hes a first round pick, hed probably stick around and make the dressing room a gong show for a while before the team finally says they've had enough.

I kind of feel that way too, but I'm not sure entitled and rich nepo-babies will ever learn their lesson. I don't want to see someone like that succeed because it just makes them even worse adults.

Unfortunately, he's not known to lend a hand.

I've also heard he can be sort of "wet blanket" type of persona.

That awkward first moment when he meets up with Flacco after Pops was ripping into him on social media.

Should get a locker post-it note with 'Super Bowl MVP + Super Bowl Champion = respect'

Now carry my shoulder pads rook.

The graphic of the QB room in Cleveland is amazing:

Deshaun Watson
Kenny Pickett
Joe Flacco
Dillon Gabriel (3rd round pick)
Shedeur Sanders (5th round pick)

That's a QB room right there.
Poor Stefanski.

With those QB's there's almost no way this goes well.
If he doesn't play Sanders, he's going to hear about it.

If he does, and it goes poorly?
He works for one of the few organizations dumb enough to think bringing in Deion to coach will fix it.

I'm not sure what Shedeur has done to warrant so many detractors. Plus, didn't Deion come out recently and pretty much say he was ok with whatever?

Teams take chances on sex offenders, criminal activity, and the like. Those aren't good optics. What are they afraid of here? If Shedeur ends up being good, in a league where teams are desperate at QB, a lot of GMs will need to take a long, hard look at their process, including letting their personal bias interfere with talent evaluation.

Stefanski is one of the longer tenured coaches right now (IIRC). Edit to add: We used to go through them very quickly, but Haslam has been good lately.

I am not ready to label him that and your last statement isn't true at all. There are lots of famous and successful people that were born on third base that are great people. Most of them are good people, only a few of them aren't.

As I admitted in another thread I know very little about Sanders other than who his father is and some basic college stats. I feel his biggest detractor is that relationship. Hopefully he can step out from under the shadow of dad. Maybe Cleveland should bar Pops from team facilities to ensure that his paternal influence is minimalized.

Kiper has embarrassed himself during this process regarding Sanders. He thinks that since he had Sanders ranked high and the NFL didn't agree, literally every team was wrong. Kiper misses on prospects all the time so to think he's always right and when the NFL doesn't agree with his rankings, they're all wrong is ridiculous and a total lack of self awareness. I've been increasingly annoyed with Kiper over the years. I'm done with him now.
