I've had to shovel down a spoonful of humble pie a few times in my life- I can say now in retrospect, it benefited me. Just put your head down and work, young man.
I hope this is what happens. Whatever he said and did in interviews had to be unimaginable even by entitled athlete standards. I don't wish any ill will towards him at all. Hopefully this is a wake up for him and his dad for that matter.I've had to shovel down a spoonful of humble pie a few times in my life- I can say now in retrospect, it benefited me. you hit the nail on the head.Early in the off season Deion did say that he had a list of teams he would let his son play for.Why do people have this impression of Deion? When has he ever done something like this?think Deon hindered his kids upside too. it feels like he will be yapping at the coach/GM every time he feels they didnt handle his kid the right way. or worse..... yapping at the media. I wouldnt want the distraction. While he is a good prospect, hes no
He later tried to put the toothpaste back in the tube on that one but I don't see how any reasonable person could suggest Deion won't be a potential active distraction, not just media speculation, for any team that takes Shedeur.
Then there is the constant media attention, which Deion has no small part in ginning up. That didn't happen in a vacuum, Deion has been building that up for years as the coach of his son.
At this point, even in the highly unlikely event Deion keeps his mouth shut entirely, wherever Shedeur lands there will be constant speculation about: 1) Deion coaching Shedeur in the NFL or 2) questions to coaches about when and whether Shedeur should be starting over whatever QB is in front of him.
It's easy to see why teams don't think he's worth the hassle yet.
Shedeur is definitely talented but not enough to justify the risks ATM.
At this point he really can either go to the Steelers, who have a strong HC and where Shedeur has a pretty clear path to starting or a team like Phili or the Chiefs where the coach and QB are such solid footing they can dismiss the media, and potential Deion, circus that will come with him.
Normally I would agree with you. However, Sanders(both of them) overplayed their hand by a mile. This is essentially a kid. I feel bad for him as I don't think this steep of a drop is deserved. Of course, mine is the opinion of a casual fan. Just feels way overdone. You ever see a boxer or MMA guy being super cocky and over the top confident? The guy who is obnoxious, arrogant, and borderline mean? Then gets his butt handed to him in the first round?
This is the football version of that.
We all learn lessons as kids. And Deion is as a ~60 year old. Hopeful this one for him/daddy is STFU, work, and don't bring attention to yourselves. Doubtful they can but if daddy/he want any shot at an NFL career as a QB in any capacity........that's what will have to be done. This is essentially a kid. I’m not sure why it doesn’t make any sense. Who wants a 4th round or 5th round rookie who is such a distraction that it’s worse than being on Hard Knocks all season?I’ve read all the explanations here, heard all the folks on TV talk about it and…I’m still missing something here. This doesn’t make any sense.
I had him as a 2nd round talent. scouting report reminds me a lot of Dak prescotts scouting report and I think he went 4th round. Can anyone that thinks he's got what it takes to be a franchise QB give a little breakdown? I've watched him plenty and have seen a guy with terrible pocket presence, holds the ball way to long, average athleticism, decent accuracy if he has all day, bad teammate, a bad attitude, and just isn't that good. Since when is that a top 10 pick, or any better than a 4th or 5th? What's the bull case here? He's been a pure meme the entire time to me. So I'm curious if people see something with their own eyes, or if this has been a case of the media building him up into something he isn't and everyone just kind of goes along with it.
I actually believed the Rams too going into the draft. Still MAY happen. And it'd be the best scenario for him working with McVay.If it isn't one of the teams we've heard discussed as pre-draft options like Pittsburgh or Las Vegas, I see two teams that wouldn't surprise me to grab him at this point : Rams & Colts.
The Rams make sense because we all know Stafford is nearing the end and at this cost, you might get a huge discount on a future starter who also would get to sit and learn from a really solid pro QB. Indy would be interesting because it feels like everyone but them is starting to realize the error of the ARich pick. Why not give yourself another possible option at this cost in case you just need to pivot?
I think this isnt about on field talent anymore. this is about the off field stuff.I mean all of the arguments people are making are fine in terms of why he shouldn’t be a 1st round pick. I get it. But we’re at the end of the 4th round now and at this point it makes no sense to me.
Mad Mel > real MelWell unless someone trades up he is falling to at least the 5th round.
So Kiper's #5 player will go in the 5th round or later
Maybe Bill Tobin's postman really does know more than Mel Kiper
I think they got the whole bakery. New nickname: HostessIf he goes undrafted, the Sanders would be wise not to respond "Shadeur got blackballed" & instead go with "We hope for the opportunity to prove all the teams that passed on drafting him wrong and will work tirelessly towards that". If they have any PR person whatsoever, and he wants any sort of pro career......they better go that route. Stay off media......any of it.
Humility will go a long way. Deion wanted everything in his court for Shadeur in the NFL. He/they didn't just get a slice of humble pie......they got the whole pie.
If(!) he goes undrafted, I am afraid their PR will be something like „After not being selected in the first round, we told all teams to not draft him so that he can choose his team.“If he goes undrafted, the Sanders would be wise not to respond "Shadeur got blackballed" & instead go with "We hope for the opportunity to prove all the teams that passed on drafting him wrong and will work tirelessly towards that". If they have any PR person whatsoever, and he wants any sort of pro career......they better go that route. Stay off media......any of it. (No Deion going on TV bitching Shadeur didn't get drafted etc.....)

I'd be surprised if this isn't Deion getting him to UDFA status where he can choose where he wants toplayrun the scout team.
In my opinion it's dirty because there just isn't, as of now in the draft, 139 better college football player then him. Something isn't being reported. ImoStarting to feel downright dirty now. He isn't the first kid that interviewed poorly and comes across as needing to be humbled. Most of these athletes are treated like gods since middle school and have a chip on their shoulder of some kind. We are not being informed something. Has to be something not reported. This is just silly at this point. Imo
How is it dirty? No one, no player, has the RIGHT to be drafted by an NFL team; it is an honor.
ThisVikings trade a 5th rounder for Sam Howell instead of using it to take Sanders. Now that's gotta be embarrassing
Does that really matter? College player A being better than College player B doesn't mean A will necessarily be better than B in the pros. And there is a lot more to it than just talent. Shedeur clearly failed miserably in other regards. In my opinion it's dirty because there just isn't, as of now in the draft, 139 better college football player then him. Totally worth it.Good on the Browns. WIth all the risks taken with character and injury in the NFL Draft, this is just laughable.
We'll see, but there very well could be a lot of smug people learn a very good lesson here, including a lot of GMs.
