QB Shedeur Sanders, CLE (14 Viewers)

The whole media coverage has been about Shadeur. Now imagine that in your locker room about your backup/3rd string QB......

The same backup/3rd QB that pouted and made snarky remarks about a current NFL starter/NFL champ/Super Bowl MVP in Joe Flacco. They burned their final bridge with any organization / vet QB "mentoring" him. They're incapable of keeping their mouths shut. Just toxic attention to any organization.

I've had to shovel down a spoonful of humble pie a few times in my life- I can say now in retrospect, it benefited me. Just put your head down and work, young man.
I hope this is what happens. Whatever he said and did in interviews had to be unimaginable even by entitled athlete standards. I don't wish any ill will towards him at all. Hopefully this is a wake up for him and his dad for that matter.

think Deon hindered his kids upside too. it feels like he will be yapping at the coach/GM every time he feels they didnt handle his kid the right way. or worse..... yapping at the media. I wouldnt want the distraction. While he is a good prospect, hes no
Why do people have this impression of Deion? When has he ever done something like this?
Early in the off season Deion did say that he had a list of teams he would let his son play for.

He later tried to put the toothpaste back in the tube on that one but I don't see how any reasonable person could suggest Deion won't be a potential active distraction, not just media speculation, for any team that takes Shedeur.

Then there is the constant media attention, which Deion has no small part in ginning up. That didn't happen in a vacuum, Deion has been building that up for years as the coach of his son.

At this point, even in the highly unlikely event Deion keeps his mouth shut entirely, wherever Shedeur lands there will be constant speculation about: 1) Deion coaching Shedeur in the NFL or 2) questions to coaches about when and whether Shedeur should be starting over whatever QB is in front of him.

It's easy to see why teams don't think he's worth the hassle yet.

Shedeur is definitely talented but not enough to justify the risks ATM.

At this point he really can either go to the Steelers, who have a strong HC and where Shedeur has a pretty clear path to starting or a team like Phili or the Chiefs where the coach and QB are such solid footing they can dismiss the media, and potential Deion, circus that will come with him.
you hit the nail on the head.

and apparently in interviews the kid came of as 'entitled' my understanding is he came off as potentially uncoachable in some cases.

lets just say its not just his dad. its him too. and If the player scouts as a franchise altering player that you take at #1 overall, you likely dont take a chance on a guy like this.

and lets be honest. his scouting reports that I read. it read a lot like Dak prescotts did when he came into the league. HE was a 4th round pick. Granted I thought the Boys got a deal when they picked him but the bottom line is.... I felt he was a borderline first round talent at best. probably more of a 2nd round talent. but factor in the off field stuff, the potentially meddling dad, the self entitlement.

his fall is no longer about talent, its all about those other off field issues and maybe coachability/fit.

this kick in his complacency may solve some of this. once he realizes hes not as good as HE thinks he is. that will help. but I'm worried the helicopter parenting by his dad wont go away. so unless you are hiring him to be your QB coach, I dont know that you take a chance on this kid.

You ever see a boxer or MMA guy being super cocky and over the top confident? The guy who is obnoxious, arrogant, and borderline mean? Then gets his butt handed to him in the first round?

This is the football version of that.
This is essentially a kid. I feel bad for him as I don't think this steep of a drop is deserved. Of course, mine is the opinion of a casual fan. Just feels way overdone.
Normally I would agree with you. However, Sanders(both of them) overplayed their hand by a mile.

I honestly believe the interview process is what teams are focusing on. Can you imagine if you want to hire someone, and they came to the interview insisting on playing a pokemon type card game? The interviewee refused to talk about the job or how he is qualified? Only wanted to play the card game? Would you hire that person? I wouldn't.

We all learn lessons as kids. And Deion is as a ~60 year old. Hopeful this one for him/daddy is STFU, work, and don't bring attention to yourselves. Doubtful they can but if daddy/he want any shot at an NFL career as a QB in any capacity........that's what will have to be done.

Deion's media buddies can whine/*****/moan.....there's not a GD thing they can do for him at this point. Kid/Daddy will either STFU,work, lay off media.....or the kid can live off daddy's money and rot in obscurity.

Can anyone that thinks he's got what it takes to be a franchise QB give a little breakdown? I've watched him plenty and have seen a guy with terrible pocket presence, holds the ball way to long, average athleticism, decent accuracy if he has all day, bad teammate, a bad attitude, and just isn't that good. Since when is that a top 10 pick, or any better than a 4th or 5th? What's the bull case here? He's been a pure meme the entire time to me. So I'm curious if people see something with their own eyes, or if this has been a case of the media building him up into something he isn't and everyone just kind of goes along with it.
I had him as a 2nd round talent. scouting report reminds me a lot of Dak prescotts scouting report and I think he went 4th round.

but I felt he was a little better at this point in his career than dak. but Dak didnt have the media sideshow, and was a bit more grounded and appeared to be very coachable and landed with the Cowboys who had what may have been the best O line in pro football with a robust ground game. This covered a lot of Daks flaws until he could get his game to a point where he was a good NFL QB. This kid seems like he may be difficult on that side of things so I dont see his development path going the way Daks did. but his needs are likely the same. he needs a good line because (you nailed it) he does hold the ball too long.

If it isn't one of the teams we've heard discussed as pre-draft options like Pittsburgh or Las Vegas, I see two teams that wouldn't surprise me to grab him at this point : Rams & Colts.

The Rams make sense because we all know Stafford is nearing the end and at this cost, you might get a huge discount on a future starter who also would get to sit and learn from a really solid pro QB. Indy would be interesting because it feels like everyone but them is starting to realize the error of the ARich pick. Why not give yourself another possible option at this cost in case you just need to pivot?
I actually believed the Rams too going into the draft. Still MAY happen. And it'd be the best scenario for him working with McVay.

After the Flacco comments.....I think he's looking at going undrafted. Teams with a young developing QB don't want Shadeur in the room. Teams with vet QB, with those Flacco comments, don't want that toxicity in there either. No organization/vet wants to mentor that.

It'd be like you/I working at a company, you're assigned to mentor a fresh college graduate, and before they even start/proven anything that kid says "I'm better than you".

Well unless someone trades up he is falling to at least the 5th round.

So Kiper's #5 player will go in the 5th round or later

Maybe Bill Tobin's postman really does know more than Mel Kiper

I mean all of the arguments people are making are fine in terms of why he shouldn’t be a 1st round pick. I get it. But we’re at the end of the 4th round now and at this point it makes no sense to me.
I think this isnt about on field talent anymore. this is about the off field stuff.

I felt (at best) he was borderline as a first round pick and that was not taking the off field stuff into account. I had him as a 2nd round talent who came off as entitled, whose dad is a candidate to be a Pro coach at some point.

as a coach, you dont want a guy like that in your ear. and I dont know that a GM wants that either. and if the kid came off as self entitled in interviews, that really doesnt speak to his coachability.

he has slid farther than I thought and my only thought is that its likely even worse than we know.

but at some point a team will look and say we are paying very little to get a potential starting QB. his slide in the draft may give him the humble pie he needed, we will take a chance on him.

but I think what complicates things is that his dad is a coaching candidate at the NFL level, and his dad is the only coach the kid has ever had. Is he gonna be in the ear of the GM asking to coach his kid? its a potential landmine that a lot of teams would like to avoid. and is a 4th round pick worth that headache?

It is getting to a scary point of where the draft capital to the team isn't all that much that they can just cut him if things go wrong. But it also allows him to be a pain in the butt so that he gets cut, and then sign with a team he prefers (assuming a team would want him). A year in the CFL may be his best option.

If he goes undrafted, the Sanders would be wise not to respond "Shadeur got blackballed" & instead go with "We hope for the opportunity to prove all the teams that passed on drafting him wrong and will work tirelessly towards that". If they have any PR person whatsoever, and he wants any sort of pro career......they better go that route. Stay off media......any of it. (No Deion going on TV bitching Shadeur didn't get drafted etc.....)

Humility will go a long way. Deion wanted everything in his court for Shadeur in the NFL. He/they didn't just get a slice of humble pie......they got the whole pie.

I think they got the whole bakery. New nickname: Hostess

If(!) he goes undrafted, I am afraid their PR will be something like „After not being selected in the first round, we told all teams to not draft him so that he can choose his team.“

Starting to feel downright dirty now. He isn't the first kid that interviewed poorly and comes across as needing to be humbled. Most of these athletes are treated like gods since middle school and have a chip on their shoulder of some kind. We are not being informed something. Has to be something not reported. This is just silly at this point. Imo

How is it dirty? No one, no player, has the RIGHT to be drafted by an NFL team; it is an honor.
In my opinion it's dirty because there just isn't, as of now in the draft, 139 better college football player then him. Something isn't being reported. Imo

Does that really matter? College player A being better than College player B doesn't mean A will necessarily be better than B in the pros. And there is a lot more to it than just talent. Shedeur clearly failed miserably in other regards.

"The Call"

It is messed up for the kid but there's a reason It was probably leaked to begin with....

Shadeur's phone was reportedly only given to NFL personnel for the draft. Leading many to believe someone associated with NFL team leaked it.

Good on the Browns. With all the risks taken with character and injury in the NFL Draft, this is just laughable.

We'll see, but there very well could be a lot of smug people learn a very good lesson here, including a lot of GMs.

Totally worth it.

Considering the players taken in last 60 picks, the Browns made a good move. If it's a disaster, bye, later, no big deal.

5th round pick? Browns fans should be happy
