QB Tom Brady, Retired (1 Viewer)

Romo makes about $18M per year so Brady will basically get double that amount to start. Has anyone even bothered asking if he will be any good at this? What if he stinks at broadcasting? He never says anything interesting to the cameras and its all coach speak.

I think it's troublesome that someone is going be paid $375M to do something they've never done before. People have anxiety  on here when a WR wants his money after Year 3 vs Year 4 but it's fine for Brady to sign for $375M to travel 16 weeks and call a 3 hour game?

Fox had to do something to 1-Up ESPN after they stole Aikman and Buck to bring MNF back to the 20th Century. They get the jump and sign Brady to their broadcast team while he's still playing.

Aikman: "I really like what they're doing"

Look for NBC to try and grab Aaron Rodgers who can also host numerous Game Shows for the network as an added bonus.

I honestly think Brady will be great at whatever he chooses to do. Even if it doesn’t come naturally, he’ll work his ### off to make sure he’s the best analyst out there.

This. I think Brady lasts 2 years max as an analyst, there's no way he's gonna become personable out of nowhere. Personality isn't something that can be taught or learned- either you have one or you don't, and he doesn't.

I'm not saying he won't work at it, in fact I likely side with you but $375M, I guess you wonder what the going rate is for a Hall of Fame caliber player transitioning into the booth, this would answer the bell for sure.

I'm not anti-Brady to be clear on that but in a woke-world right now, I might have thought the networks would push for someone else but they show their true colors when real dollars are at stake. I'm not even remotely implying that folks should somehow feel in any way guilty or embarrassed that Brady is getting this money or contract but in the field of broadcasting that he would be entering, his knowledge cannot be as vast as his football prowess. Romo by nature is appealing to a lot of people, not sure Brady is able to connect with a wide audience outside of New England and perhaps Tampa Bay.

When Fox ran first got the NFL, they ran out and got Madden. This is a similar concept.

I don't think Brady is getting paid to call games, he's getting paid to be the face of Fox NFL. It's a branding call, and FOX is saying he's worth it. I don't know enough to know if he is worth it, but Tony Romo is no Tom Brady.

Brady being a conservative is icing on the cake.

They are hiring a guy with 23 years of NFL experience.

At the toughest position in football. He knows offense and defense.

I'm not a Tom Brady fan but he has probably forgotten more about football

then anybody on this boards knows about football.

Brady in Tampa has been pretty personable! He does these little clips for the Bucs YouTube with Gronk that are quite funny, I’ve laughed at each one. Not saying it will translate to the booth but he certainly has more personality than he showed in Boston.

If Brady put up the season(s) he's put up the last two with Tampa, but he was 34, not 44...would he still be going QB8 neighborhood in redraft?

Guarantee you that Brady will not be as interesting, personable, have a personality, etc as Romo. I'll listen to Romo call a game any day. Brady? This is going to be a train wreck.

No Godwin, No Gronk, New Coach....I'm not sure how much upside there is with the new targets.   He's fine at QB8 but that is as high as I take him in most drafts and even then I'm hesitant.

FTR, I loved his value last year and drafted him in multiple high stakes leagues...so I'm not anti Brady or anything like that, I just see some red flags with two key targets missing.  Because he doesn't get the rushing stats that many other top 10 QBs do, he has to maintain elite passing numbers to justify his value.

I see Brady as the perfect fantasy playoffs qb (with a huge asterisk of not looking at the schedule).   Godwin will be back and up to speed, I'll put a gentleman's dollar on Gronk being back and up to speed, and any minor changes to the offense will be long ironed out.   Just have to hope everyone is healthy.

I'm with @wgoldsphon this. By fantasy playoffs, "No Godwin" will no longer be an issue, and "No Gronk" may not be an issue. And they added Russell Gage, and he should help while Godwin recovers.

IMO "New Coach" seems irrelevant, since the OC did not change, and I really don't see HC Bowles interfering with the offense. It's Brady's offense, and he will be able to do whatever he wants.

Brady could tie or set the record for most  career playoff wins against NFC opponents this season. He needs 2 wins to tie Favre with 12. That would be nuts.

He will most certainly break the record for most times sacked.  Just 12 to go to beat Big Ben.

Yeah, probably nothing, BUT Bowles response was a bit odd when asked if he was confident Brady would suit up for week 1. Basically said "There's always going to be doubt but I have a fairly high level of confidence he will be there" Would have preferred he said something along the lines of "he will definitely be there".

Things are starting to get a little weird.
Did something brand new happen?
Oh yea shoulda linked a tweet. Bowles said today that they don’t know when he’ll be back, despite this being allegedly a pre-planned thing and it also being 10 days off.
Yeah, in an earlier post I stated that his comments were strange when asked how confident he was Brady would be available week one. He basically said anything was possible and he was "fairly confident".

The "it was planned" doesn't really pass the BS test to me. May be nothing in the end, but yeah, a little weird

Predictably, a contingent over on Saintsreport is taking all of this as "Brady's re-retiring this preseason, a la Barry Sanders".

He's totally re-retiring. Gronk is gone. His OL took a big hit with that one guy out for the year. Lucrative TV deals happening. He's taking these two weeks to consult his COO (Giselle), but he's out. Bucs probably in talks with Garopollo.

Interesting story line
Obviously his rings maintain his GOAT status but this would be a sizable blemish imo

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Interesting take.

For him to make sure they re-signed all these guys based on him returning only to bail during training camp. Total slap in the face to those players and the organization. Can’t see it. Not to mention he basically got Arians removed.

I mean the main reason he’s not doing this is he just talked Julio into signing like 3 weeks ago. Called Leonard to get him back, Jensen, Gage, etc. I don’t see it happening but it’s not a non-zero chance either.

Has this ever happened before? A starting QB excused from Training Camp on a Super Bowl contending team and no explanation?
Maybe he has an undisclosed injury that required minor surgery?

I think he's too classy of a guy to up and quit in TC.

I would have thought that two years ago, but he has really showed his you-know-what since leaving the Patriots. Being classy doesn't seem to be part of his DNA.

This seems more likely than retirement, but the whole thing has been so odd that retirement can't be left out of the range of possibilities, either.

Which should go without saying. I just wanted to weigh in on him needing medical leave of some sort.

Just running random thoughts in my head as I sip my first cup of morning coffee.

1. A part of him is not totally committed to playing anymore...and her name is Gisselle
2. A part or parts of his body are not totally committed to playing anymore

That's enough random thoughts for this morning.

Another TB O lineman goes down. King Tom doesn’t play under these conditions. I think it’s a done deal.

This absolutely. Can't step up with the whole interior gone. He can read the writing on the wall: long season...if he doesn't get hurt. Plus, he wanted to be in Miami, not Tampa. Probably his Bucs' teammates sense this, too.

They’ve lost exactly one starting lineman. Whole interior? Did you all miss the Shaq Mason trade?

I think he means overall from last season. Marpet retired, Cappa gone in FA, Jensen lost to injury, and Wirfs just got dinged up and could miss some time.

Wirfs could likely play next week if needed too. Mason is a huge upgrade over Cappa. Jensen and Marpet are losses for sure.

Brady obviously knew about Marpet though.
