QB Will Levis, TEN (1 Viewer)

I have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. I will say this has the feel of a floundering marriage. Either they move on from the coaching staff or move on from Levis. Prolly a coin flip.

Callahan said Levis will be back at some point- maybe this week maybe next- and they're intent is for him to be the starter. He won't play til he's healthy

He also said the owner is on board with Levis for this year but context was previous statement then Karen-ish about "does your boss say you should do this"

The word intent leaves some openness but he probably means unless something unexpected happens.

Lotta nitpicking words this morning. Trying to be clear

Didn't post here Monday-
Coach said we'll see where his shoulder is at and get him some work to form that opinion.

Coach was genuine about Rudolph and probably said what everyone did.

Frustrated with poor decisions and not throwing it away or taking a sack.
At times they did move the ball very well and against a top team.
Rudolph's command is obvious (Levis' isn't)
If they could just stop with the bad decisions.

Also one reporter that's been around for decades said he's never seen a team drill as much as this Titans one has for throwing the ball away. He was adamant there's no way this is on the coaching staff

Coach said a nonchalant "I hope he plays this week" when asked about his injury and recovery.

It'll be the same drill as last week with testing the shoulder and knowing more around Friday

I'm consistently intrigued by the Malik talk and often let down by the lack of research since it's so easily found on the Titans site. Regardless, I still am intrigued and it IS interesting.

In the summers-
Malik was awful,
not good but clearly better,
then yeah idk maybe, if he keeps improving at this rate, maybe.

Three levels.

I don't see Levis at level two "not good but clearly better."

******
It's fine for Anthony Richardson. I do think he's at level two.
******
Howell was definitely at level two. He threw for 4k.
******
Ridder. He had moments of composure and leadership and improved play. Absolutely.
BUT the dunderhead plays got more n more n more. These "look stupid" and make you question everything. Everyone on social media says "Why would he even do that?" almost in unison. We can tolerate an INT as learning, but a flip or shovel, nope. An INT thrown into triple coverage? Nope.
******

I can go on and on with other QBs and this "Malik plan." I can even point out Malik is clearly running a stripped down offense in GB and have lots of gripes with this as a measuring stick but it IS interesting.

If I've gotta pick I think Levis is closest to Ridder. I could have kept going as this trend is n all, but the dunderhead plays and confusion- I think Ridder here.

I don't think Levis is better in year two. I don't see him in command of the offense and Rudolph always illustrates that so obviously. Otherwise, I'm going with Ridder for comparison.
The Falcons lost an insane number of games by less than a touchdown. Eight maybe? Idk that that's reasonable pressure for a young QB but it happened and whatever. Levis hasn't had that. Levis has had a lead going into second half's and lost it every single time.

It's quite imperfect but a bit interesting.

Do you think Levis is at year two in "the Malik plan?"
Who would you compare him to?

Levis was limited yesterday and full today. Today was a padded practice so it has some significance.
Guessing we'll hear if sore or not tomorrow
You think he starts if ready or did Rudolph Wally Pipp him?
Yes. Coach has said it a few times. Levis is the guy this year
Which is 100% the right call. Its not like this team is making the playoffs with Rudolph. Might as well try and hope Levis turns it around and if not, you know for sure.

I think its slightly different for Indy (for now anyway) as they are in the wildcard hunt, but if they lose a couple more, they should turn back to Richardson for the same reason.

Personally, I think Levis has shown more than Richardson has, at least he can complete simple passes.

As a Ridley owner my first reaction is obviously yuck. Its tough because I saw enough of Levis last year to think he has the tools to be decent. Bri mentioned above regarding young QBs and stages. Or developing to the next stage. Something happened and he just regressed. Don't know what, but like the Panthers and Bryce Young showed us, young guys are gonna get chances. He is at a pivotal time in his career and should remember one thing. Target Ridley a lot. Like a lot lot.

Until the last drive, he took maybe two shots and connected on one and had 100ish yards for the day.
RB screens, one to Ridley, usual few nice chain movers to NWI.
It was weak. Too little

He had two series where he lost control of the offense/keeping everyone focused or positive and one mistake became another and another.
He was alright the other drives so that's progress.
I swore he was about to make a meme worthy mistake on one run but he didn't.

He averaged 4.6 seconds to pass until a sack which means they were on him or the WR or back to him to throw it away.

It was rookie, first few games like. It wasn't second year like.

Last drive was pretending they still had a chance hurry up style and they put in the UDFA everyone was impressed with in camp- Bryce Oliver.
He was composed and had determination and hit Oliver twice then Ridley and wow nice drive! His throws to Oliver are confident and in-sync.
The kid WR always looks good. Not to overreact to two catches on one drive but one he beat his CB and Levis hit him before he ran to two safeties and it was like now THAT is an NFL throw right there.

He was mostly in-sync with Ridley. One was off. One he had to slow down and minimal concern. Ridley still does this turn on the jets thing that isn't easily predictable. Run the same speed the whole time or do that at the last cut in the route or... something predictable.

Levis looks better to NWI and Oliver than he does Ridley. If these two could get in sync, Oliver plays more, they could make significant progress on offense.

Callahan said he sees positives in Levis. He can work on hesitation but sees improvement.

Guy has 100 yards late in the fourth. Stop selling me snake oil....but ya gotta lead a team and be positive so I get why he does and fine, whatever

I think we've come to "he better put up some numbers" part of the schedule.
THe Vikings are gonna get there's. So will the Commanders and the Bengals and...these100-150 yard games won't cut it

Have you seen his remaining schedule? Wonder if Callaghan is banking on his being respectable ROS.
He's gotta look like a comfortable quarterback by the end of the year.
This 100 yards late into the fourth isn't near enough.
Gotta throw it away and not take sacks when doable.
This is year two and he's gotta stop looking like every other QBs first game.

There's just nothing new to say and that has a pathetic vibe. The offense is so stripped down he has had terrific completion percentage at times. Is 18 of 20 for 100 yards great? Or just that he can throw screens with accuracy? Is he scared to throw it? Old adage of healthy fear and irrational fear.

So many questions, time will tell.

He looked the part.
Pretty good day and against a Flores defense too.
Subtract 100 for NWI TD and more regular day for him BUT the refs stole a few nice plays away from him too. Those three probably equal 80-100 yards.

Couple sacks were ugh. He threw two away finally. He made some big boy throws and really looked the part

The game opened with the usual (only) TE passes and then they had run plays for him. Once they got Lamar jealous enough, it was more traditional.

What do people think? Is this guy going to have a starting job next year?
It was a no.
He's improved the last few weeks and he sort of opened the door to this possibility with his first half play against the Texans. 11 of 12 for 175ish yards and a TD while being sacked eight times and seemingly constant pressure. He made nice throws and it was a very good half for sure.

The Titans have-all year- not looked good in the second half. The new staff seems inventive and clever in the first half and bad bad in second halves. Idk where the blame lies.

Levis did very little in the second half. He hit Chig on a simple common route. The defender tried for a pick six and whiffed. Chig took off and it was as if the Texans D didn't feel motivated to tackle him or some coaching cliche. If that was any other level of football, the Texans coach would be so animated on the sideline and they'd be afraid of how much running they'll be doing at the next practice. Anywho there wasn't much more to him in the second half.

He's still got plenty to improve upon-
Blamed for five of seven first half sacks. There's plays where he seems to have no feel or peripheral vision.
Could throw it away more.
Pumps a lot sometimes and you can tell he's struggling with decisions then.
He needs to handle a bad snap, "sit" and throw. He runs every single time.
QB gurus point out he needs to audible better and call out blocking better presnap. They show other QBs pointing at defenders or calling out numbers and...he's got work to do to help his line. Not to gloss over their RT play has been awful.

I think most of these are "he'll grow into it" type issues and tolerable during development.

Those earlier gaffes and low stats were somewhat intolerable and led to Shedeur rumors.

He's played against some good defenses. No excuse making, just in fairness he's due some of these lesser defenses as part of his evaluation.

They've still messed up his running style just like other Titans staffs have done with so many other running QBs. In college, you knew he was a former Lacrosse player when you saw him run. It IS possible he finds some comfort and adds that to his game. Two years in, two staffs, practiced with Malik for much of it, ya gotta wonder if he just is what he is running wise though.

The guy definitely flashes talent and then a cruddy decision. Two steps forward one step back type of thing. Wonder if his ceiling is Jameis and that’s a decent backup but the Titans should roll with him since the contract is pretty cheap

Sure hope so. I’m playing him over Goff this week. Bold move but I’m starting to feel confident from last weeks performance. I’m seeing signs of improvement and his comments on how things are slowing down for him are good signs.

The Titans were awful this week. Worst game in years. He wasn't.
He really has benefitted from the few weeks that Rudolph played.
He's still got some raw moments like stepping into sacks or (followup) yesterday when he threw it into the ground but his progress is undeniable.
Three weeks in a row that he's clearly better than the last. I would say he's definitely in-sync with the coaching staff right now.

I was saying "hey there's a big boy throw" but now he does it pretty often.

Now we've all gotta start to reassess what he's capable of and not just consider him a bust.

Yesterday he threw a good amount a smidge behind where the WR put both hands on it and dropped it. Yep on him but better WRs definitely catch those. Another group were simply dropped. Rare time I don't have a problem with a surprisingly low accuracy by a QB.
That's also the thing- Rudolph was wow accurate in camp and now Levis is. I had a zillion issues with throws the rest of his young career but I almost never do now.

My blame is constantly on the RT poor play and the WRs. They may have an alpha in Bryce Oliver but he was progressing nicely and then just stopped getting time despite the coach saying (a few times) that he'll continue to play more. The Titans curiously have just him that has any my ball mentality. Ridley let's me down in this regard. It's also about the only thing NWI is worse at since coming into the league. Boyd has some but he's clearly on his last season. Chig doesn't have it. Vannett and Whyle do- like most TEs- but they don't play enough anymore. Sooo Levis isn't getting a normal amount of luck or help here that most QBs do.

I think he's close to being the Titans 2025 QB and as long as he's not too bad to close the season, he's got it locked up.

Anyone else looking to start him vs the Jags next week?

Now that you mention it, looks like I'm going to have to. My other 2 QB's, Nix and Richardson, are both on BYE. Fortunately, I'll have the #1 seed locked up and that's the last week of our regular season so won't affect me really. And maybe he'll have a good game.

NFL Draft Files
Will Levis over the last 3 weeks:

🚀 748 passing yards
🚀 5 passing TDs
🚀 2 interceptions
🚀 53/78 passing (68%)
🚀 7 big time throws
🚀 9.6 yards per attempt

The #Titans do NOT need to go QB in the 2025 NFL Draft. Give him more time.
