QB Will Levis, TEN (2 Viewers)

“I have full confidence in Will. I believe in everything he has done so far.”

Callahan on his confidence level in Will Levis moving forward. #Titans

Levis is starting to look like a meathead upstairs.

Million dollar physical skills and a 10 cent head.

Just some insanely boneheaded decisions.

In fairness to him today the last 4 plays on 1st and goal was some god awful play calling as we posted about in the game-day thread.

This guy is great. 🤣 I know the Titans are 0-2 but the way Levi's plays, he's going to throw 3-4 TD and end up beating a time they have no business competing with.

Titans still own their draft pick, so keep wilding out Tennessee.

So after I calmed down and then laughed at the 'what the are you doing' live video of Callahan to Levis after the second dopey play fired me up, I calmed down again and ...

The guy was exceptionally accurate today.

Nine incompletions-
Two throwaways
INT
Stupid shovel that wasn't a turnover
Ridley pulled up deep
Three that hit Ridley, Boyd, and Burks' both hands- not even they touched it should catch it phrase- both hands

I'm missing one.

We can't ask for better accuracy than that.
19-28 becomes 24 or 25 of 28.

His time in 24 has been a tale of two halves as has Callahan's play calling. Callahan is clever in each first half and out coached in each second half.
I'm hung up on Chestnut (or Pollard) and Whyle. Make simple tough runs when you've got a lead. Stop being clever! End arounds and fake handoff shovels and RBs at WR are all unnecessarily difficult. Just get a couple yards or more, waste some clock and let the great defense rest. The D was so so good again and they just seemed to run out of gas.
Whyle became the starting Y TE. He's Levis' BFF with like vacation pics together and roommates at camp and ...they're right. Levis looked shaky early and two passes to his buddy calmed him down. That was it for the day for Whyle. Why? Levis is going to be nervous at times all year and Callahan better be more ready to have Whyle calm him down.

Soooo no I'm not being Mariota like praising someone that has lost it still. I was thinking of Rudolph's exceptional accuracy of like 80+% most of camp because the concept of him going in and... Levis' accuracy was excellent.

For me it goes back to what I said in the chat- someone needs to remind the coach that sometimes the sideline is a better teacher than him. Pull Levis after a dopey play and let the sideline sting teach him.

No one's talking about it but, they got to the 8 yard line with like 35-40 seconds left and the plays were as bad as the blocking. We always blame the coach for that but somehow Levis is taking the hit. You can't call plays to get eight yards? You can't sub a sixth linemen like you frequently did? Why is the great blocking TE inactive? They were on the 8 yard line. We should do what we always do and blame the play caller for this one not going into overtime.

And one last thing. That shoddy video putting Levis' face over a guy throwing fish at a fish market is absolutely fantastic. That is very much what it looks like

i’m an impartial observer as a life long jet fan….levis looked better than a guy making what, his 11th start? his mobility was a surprise to me and tenn should his size and mobility a bit more. he is almost the same size as josh allen, no? his lateral was not so comical, i think the receiver could have scooped the ball or covered at the very least. his deep ball INT was catchable. he has some weapons. i’m not sure he screams superstar to me, but he seems like a game manager plus. tenn took shots downfield and his arm seemed solid.

From Wyatt's article-
Callahan said the decision made by quarterback Will Levis to pitch the ball back, resulting in a fumble, inside the 10-yard line surprised him because he'd been coached about it. Callahan admitted he's still upset about it, but he doesn't regret getting on Levis, which television cameras caught. "I coach Will hard," Callahan said, "but I do love him hard, too." Callahan, in fact, said he told Levis he loved him not long after the turnover. "I told him before the next series, "Hey man, I love you. I'm not mad at you. We'll just keep moving."

-Other than the fumble, Callahan said Levis had a better game compared to Week 1 vs the Bears. Callahan said Levis was more accurate, and on time, and his footwork was better. "He looked more settled in," Callahan said of Levis, "and he managed it better this week." Callahan said he still has a lot of confidence and trust in Levis, and he thinks he'll respond and improve.

Derrick Mason said he can't stop saying Levis has no patience. (Subjective stat but) Being third highest on first read throws in the NFL just makes him say it more often. (Snip)Sit there, go through your reads, and do your thing.
Doesn't care about OL. QBs should get angry at the OL and take that to the sideline and let the coach know and then ..then you have a discussion.
Levis just subverting the process

Collective theme from radio shows- Titans D can't lose to Malik, impossible.
Game is on Levis' shoulders and if he makes another absurd fumble/shovel he will be benched

Granted discussion carries on to Pack run game and all sorts. Wanted to share that bit here

More talk today of patience from the OC.
Maybe leaning more towards poise. Have a calm rhythm and go thru your progressions.

Yesterday was about helping NPF(13 pressures!) but OC saying they believe in him and ... ugh. Backtracking almost to get Levis hit alot

RT is certainly a sore spot right now.Probably no good options at this point, but I'm guessing somebody in that building seriously misjudged NPF's ability.

I’m admittedly less confident in my acquisition than I was in the preseason. I’d like to see Levis play a game without making a boneheaded panicky play under pressure. Just 1 game would show growth.

I sincerely think Odukoya could be the best blocking TE in football and am totally fine with being wrong by overstating value of preseason pancakes.

I finally got my wish and six OL as the NFL used to use but just on a handful of run plays. No pass plays.

FBs are readily available on the WW and some even have stellar reputations in the league.

Ojukwu could sub and I don't care if it's four plays. If there's this belief in him then let the sideline teach NPF.

Their line is four former tackles. Their backup G is a former tackle plus two more backups. I would storm into Daddy Callahan's meeting room and ask how on earth he doesn't have two capable tackles.

I don't believe there aren't solutions. The prior seasons have had the same probs and we didn't have eight former tackles and a special HOF level OL coach and a blocking TE worth a darn.

Jacksonville (before recent) has famously never fixed probs just struggle thru and watch every team take advantage of the issue. I'm worried the OC will have too big a say and this won't be addressed.

Coach answered a Q- No plans to steal a page from the Packers w Malik and run a lot to minimize Levis' mistakes. Levis has to work through it

Hard situation to parse with Levis. He doesn’t look bad, except for when he does. I get the feeling that it won’t happen for him in Tennessee, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he catches on somewhere else, on a team that can keep him upright and limit the pressure.

This game was going to be a meat grinder anyways, the GB defense is legit. I don’t imagine next week being that much easier for the O-Line, but Levis may not have to score much to outscore this hobbled and reeling Miami team.

Callahan said some of Levis' issues were with predetermined destinations that the D covered well.

Soooo no reads on these plays? Cmon now

Did they bench him for Mason?
He dove for a first down and reached out and landed in his throwing shoulder. He tried to throw on the sideline but was grimacing. There's a cry face meme but I don't think he cried, just that a grimace looks like that if a pic is screenshot.

Rudolph was especially composed. He didn't even get up from his seat. He kept his cool in the game also.

He was exceptional at the line of scrimmage. Calmly getting them there early and making usual QB adjustments as he sees it. The Titans only allowed one sack making it the best day in years.

He didn't take any shots or high risk passes. They scored on 7 of 11 possessions but mostly field goals. The D was absolutely dominant and gave them great field position often so that limited offensive stats.

I'm not sure he took whatever we call regular risk passes either. Very very careful.

Generally athletes are blessed w some ability and they don't know how to take it easy with that one thing. Levis' is his arm. Can he rest for two weeks? Not throw any deep shots in practice next week?

The coach has said rather emphatically that it's Levis' job but there are obvious questions.
He's gotta find out if Levis is the franchise QB and stop treating him like he was a top ten pick.

Rudolph is four years older than, took three years to recover from a concussion, and has looked good in spots dating back to last year. If he had pushed it and maybe thrown for 300 yards, this would be a Dalton situation but he didn't so now we've got questions.

Levis and Callahan can't lose the locker room and the Titans spent a lot of $ to win now/soon and the older players will only be so patient. The D is ranked first in the NFL and the offense is near last. Polar opposites.

Rudolph was more calm and cerebral than a big armed prospect when he was coming out. He didn't look it most of his time in Pittsburgh but he absolutely has in the last year. This too is a polar opposite to Levis.

Phillips got injured but played part of the game. NPF was benched last week and the sideline does teach lessons. Phillips and Campbell and...how did they do so well blocking? If the answer is as simple as Rudolph sees and makes adjustments that Levis doesn't, then Rudolph should play.

The GM, Daddy Callahan and who knows who else could lose their jobs if the Titans stink and allow a zillion sacks.

The NFL doesn't work this way but then Levis should learn to read a D and audible and talk to linemen presnap with the QB coach this year and try again next year.

I think what'll happen is Rudolph plays a game, Levis comes back in three weeks and plays for a few, then Rudolph takes over for the remainder AND the talk shifts to wondering if he's the guy

Good write-up, only thing I'd quibble about is the win now statement, which don't think is really true. Vegas win total was 6.5, this was supposed to be a bad team, they need to think beyond this season. If Levis isn't the guy then fine but need to get the answer to that question. For now, that's more important that getting to 8 or maybe 9 wins.

Yeah I get that, totally. When the GM and Coach were questioned specifically about the near 30 year old additions they claimed they could win now.
I felt without that statement it was very questionable to add older players to a young team.
I think the fan base wanted to hear that and even if false hope I think we collectively ate that up and trying n failing was far better than what's been happening.
It's really twisted to justify 7 thirty-ish year olds

you know its bad when mason rudolph steals your job
I don't know.
I 💯 thought this and then someone schooled me this summer (linked in his thread IIRC). He suffered that awful put you in the fetal position type concussion and it takes three years to recover from. In that three years, a person could have all sorts of vision problems besides the obvious.
So I'm at PFR and if you think usual struggles then give a three year grace period...I was hmmm this is interesting. The more stat sites I go to and the better he looks.
Is he the chump of earlier in his career or the pretty impressive QB at the end of last season?
He was at 82% completion rate with a few days left in camp and woah! Maybe it was concussion related and he developed in that three year window?
He looked like the kid in college that I hadn't seen in eight years or so. So very calm on the sideline like dude show a little emotion cmon what's with that? In the game he was again so calm and veteran type experienced with his choices.
I'm just stumped
I didn't know a concussion can give you spots in your vision. How's anyone to play like that?

and ...I just do not know on him. Flat out mystery

Maybe. My draft thoughts for 2025 have never been simpler- if they draft another tackle I will flip out. I'm good with every idea that's not a tackle
