Love the Tom Tom product, but I am too deep into using Endomondo that I would not want to start all over again with a new tracking platform. This has me wanting to get a HR monitor that will work via bluetooth into Endomondo, from which there are many to chose from....anyone on here use Endomondo and an accompanying HR monitor?

There are a number of chest straps that will do this. And the Mio Link (which I just got), which is a wrist strap.

Sand, how is the new HR watch working for you? I see TomTom jumped on that train...might have to ask for another Christmas present this year ;)

I really want one of these all in ones, but 3 data elements on the screen? :nerd:

Looks like a solid review. Might be an early birthday present to me.

Speaking of gifts; just got my 6" x 36" roller!
Ugh, I'm so close to preordering the runner cardio.

The lowest I've seen my rHR was 49; mHR is 196. All this chatter makes me want to experiment with HRR.
I went ahead and pre-ordered the runner cardio. Can't wait to ditch this buggy motoactv and the chest strap!
Get us a review!
It's due here on 6/3. I'll be sure to review it after I take it for a few spins.

47 miles over the last 5 days. About 10 of that speed walking. Legs are a little sluggish, but no major aches or pains. Flirting with dropping below 210 pounds.

Apparently I am now addicted to a drug called Half-Marathonedone. Just signed up for one for next weekend. It's a fund raiser for my cousin's kids school, so I figured what the heck. I'm already in shape for it.

Here's hoping for dry weather and not choking on a chew. :excited:

Like the wrist strap? easy $100 to spend?

183 this morning. First time under 185 in over a decade. Been working on cleaning up the diet and can feel the difference.
Somewhere between 190 and 195. As I focus more on strength training this summer going to try to keep it around here then look to drop to the low-mid 180's for Fall racing as I decrease my strength training.

Going to sign up for that 5K Sunday if I feel good tomorrow and Friday. Skipping my track workout this week, back was a little tight on today's level 2 run and the calf that I pulled in December barked at me a bit towards the end, so taking tomorrow off. Top 3 in the race in 2012 were between 17:26 and 17:50, last year the winner was 15:23 with 2nd and 3rd 17:12 and 18 flat, so my goal for the race is to run off them (not the 15:23 guy if he is there again) through mile 2 then dig deep and see what happens. Not going to focus on time at all, just going to race.

193 on a 6' 3" 50-year-old body. I ran Houston in January at 185 and have been slowly adding weight since my injury. I still eat junk food and drink beer like a college student, so I either need to get back to 50 mpw or do the unthinkable and cut back on my calories.

Hated my chest strap. So, yes, love it. I have to wear it a bit above wrist level, so unless you are really skinny in the forearm get the bigger size, as you will likely have to do the same.

And 175 on my 5'9" body. :fat:

Yeah, I've thought about that. But I'm feeling pretty good right now. Legs feel good, and I want to try and extend the race high as long as I can before summer and the heat get here. After busting my #### in the freaking cold weather all winter, I just want to keep the good feelings going a little bit longer.

Plus, I'm hooked. Race day is fun, and on those days I would be running a long run of 10ish anyway, so I may as well go chase around hot women in tight shorts for a couple of hours.

155 at the moment. I go up and down from 150-155 depending on the day right now.

Should be mid to high 160s for fitness and injury prevention
6' 215 right now on my way back down to about 200 and then I will see.

If I ever got to 160...I would look sick. In HS running track I weighed 175 and looked like I had an eating disorder. THough, part of that is I am thicker in the lower half and always have been. Now I have broadened out in my chest and shoulders and adding some more gym work Id say 195 will get me looking and feeling better than ever.

I am running the 2014 Air Force Marathon and I'm going to fu** sh** up!

Just read this in Steve's sig…classic.
I got it from a story last week about Shalane Flanagan. (and what she supposedly said about the 2013 Boston Marathon at her 10 year HS class reunion). Apparently she made a statement later denying that she ever said that, but I sure as hell have no problem using it.
I love it.
According to a Runners World article, that is what she said to Kara Goucher at the starting line of the Olympic marathon in London.

eta: 195...down from 215 a couple of years ago when I started running. Got down as low as 188, but the Achilles injury last fall did me in.

#### that. Understand you would likely be faster but a little muscle isn't a bad thing.

If I lost ten more lbs I'd look anorexic and not be able to do a push up.

Thought I posted earlier, but I'm the same weight, down from 180 a year or so ago. An inch taller at 6 flat

Anyone with IT band recovery success stories? What did you do to get rid of it?

The root of mine is no doubt trying to do too much after a long time of doing nothing. Also wearing the wrong shoe, not stretching, and ignoring pain until it was too late. I took a couple of weeks off of running, foam rolled it a couple of times a day, iced, stretched and got to a point where I felt I could test it. Then I ran a mile yesterday and am back to having acute pain today, limping around like a *******. Very frustrating. I've been using the stationary bike the whole time I've not been running which causes no problems at all - pain free and seems to loosen it up. I was hoping to avoid a doctor visit since I know what it is but I need to do something...maybe I need physical therapy?

Been lurking in here since I posted about my "comeback" from heart trouble - can't post at current job like I used to but read on my phone regularly. Some great race reports, especially from the Boston crew - very inspiring. I actually gave Steve a shout as he cruised by in Brookline on race day...what a machine.

I partially agree with you and Sho Nuff. I'm really talking 165 at the very lightest but more likely in the 167-168 range. I have no desire to get low 160s or anything and don't even think that would be possible. I have documented in here that I do regular push ups and some weights and don't plan to change that.../flex/ My college racing weight was 158-162 so I was never real thin for a distance runner and I am broader than I was back then. But I just think 172 (sometimes I get into the 175-176 range) is a bit heavy for the times I try to run. And the extra 4-5 pounds could be contributing to some of these nagging injuries. And I round up...I am really 5'10 1/2 - 3/4 :o

Thanks, the crowd was ridiculously loud at that point and probably had a huge part in my being able to mount a rally of sorts over the last 5K, so the cheering at that point is very much appreciated.

Now, on the ITBS thing, I had a hell of a time with it last year. (starting from my first run back a week after Boston up until about late July). The one thing I learned from my research (and experienced) is that it's not one of those injuries that goes away with just rest. You have to rehab and strengthen whatever weaknesses in your legs that led to the problem, and then stay on top of it even after you start back up again.

Here is a self treatment guide that has gotten some results for some cases I have heard of:

http://www.active.com/running/articles/how-to-aggressively-treat-it-band-syndrome

http://strengthrunning.com/2011/02/the-itb-rehab-routine-video-demonstration/

But to be perfectly honest, I didn't see a whole lot of results until I went to physical therapy. My physical therapist had me do a lot of drills and strengthening stuff, diagnosed me with weak hamstrings (relative to my quads). However, I think the one thing that really made a difference was the Graston technique treatment he did on my IT area to break up the scar tissues. That's what allowed me to start running again and build up my mileage. I do hit th gym 1-2 times a week and do some hamstring work to address the quadriceps/hamstring imbalance issue and I also foam roll regularly (usually at least once a day) to make sure my IT/quads/hamstrings are loosened.

Another thing I will point out is that ITBS can be caused by quite a few different things. One of the more common causes is weak hips, and if you follow the rehab routine link above you'll see that a lot / most of the exercises work your hips/glutes. It didn't really help me that much because my issue was my hamstrings. So if you have decent insurance, I would recommend going the physical therapy route as a competent PT can diagnose these things much faster and get to the issue than you can through weeks/months of trial-and-error.

I got measured at 5'8 3/4 at my last checkup a couple of years ago, but before that I have always been at 5-9... so I still maintain I'm 5-9.

Got bored and ran 8 more tonite followed by a 2 mile walk. 57 miles in 5 days including an of day. Probably will take tomorrow off, hunt on Friday, and race on Saturday.

Amazing to hear men talk about their weight ending in any number other than a 0 or 5. :nerd: :obc: :nerd: :obc: :nerd:

When I hit 200 later this summer, I better not reference my weight at 199 or 201 :banned:

I'll race ya to 200 pounds. 215 now.................and.....................go......................... :hifive:

6'0, 194-201 depending on day of week and boozing correlation. Goal is 185 which I haven't seen in almost a decade. I love beer and chips & salsa too much for my own good.

I did have to run 1.5 miles this morning to retrieve my car and had splits of 6:40 and 7:46 (usually run at 9-10 pace), woohoo!

Are you completely sure it's ITBS? It sounds funny that it hurts when you are just walking around. When I had it, I was fine normally but after about a mile of running it kicked in big time (yours might just be a more severe case than what I had though)...

Meet update on my son from yesterday. Pretty sure coach wanted to punish him (in a good way IMO) for taking off a week + for break. His team dominated their rival school 98 to 39. All of his splits were a bit slower than recent results, but better than expected. He ran the 2nd leg of the 4x800 with a split of 2:11, extending the lead their lead runner gave them and his team won by more than the straight away. His 400 was sub par for him at 55:9 and he finished 4th of 6th and was out kicked by a team mate that he has beaten every race this season. He has typically been done with two races, but coach had him running the 1st leg of the 4x400. He somehow found enough to run a 56:1 and gave his team a lead they would not give back. His school has a big invitational tomorrow that will be a big barometer of where they are as 3 of the top schools in the state will be there. Their 4x800 team has improved their time every race this year and, although I think they will get crushed, the competition should push them to another best.

So I am racing this guy down to 200 pounds and this 15 pounds is very important to me. Can you guys give me some advice that will help me get this 15 pounds off almost immediately? I dont care if that advice is bad long term advice because I only care about short term immediate results, not the long haul. Thanks in advance. Well not really thanks because I will either reject or disagree with all of your advice.

Fair question, only other culprit could be an LCL sprain but symptoms fit IT better. There was no "incident" that caused it. Pain is at worst first few steps after sitting for a while and also going down stairs. At first it only crept up after a mile or two but it progressed to hurting all of the time. I think those things point to it being IT band.

I always remember those first practices back after Spring Break.

Coach would try and destroy us to see who had been running on their own and who was slacking.

Hated those practices even when I had been doing what I was supposed to.

Likewise, just updated mine

Vicarious - Tool about 5 minutes before the gun to get my mind right

Gone Sovereign - Stone Sour to kick into race mode

Pyschosocial - Slipknot to get through the mental wall early in mile 2 when your mind tries to tell you that you're not halfway yet

Killing in the Name - Rage when I start spitting mind bullets during the wall heading into mile 3 and have nothing left in the tank

Dead Cell - Papa Roach as I near the finish, for whatever reason that guitar riff gets my blood to a boil...I'm thinking being on the back end of a chorus of #### I won't do what you tell me's will probably help too.

It depends how well I time the gun, but I've probably gotta finish by the end of the playlist to break 18.

God I wish I had more time to post. For a good run angry song, I recently downloaded Corey Taylor's (Slipknot) version of Dio's Rainbow in the Dark :headbang:

:goodposting:

If it is ITBS, it's being caused by an imbalance or weakness somewhere else - often in the hips. So along with getting that diagnosed, Graston is the right answer to work out the "crunchiness" in the IT band itself. After my first 50 miler last year that's exactly what I did - went in to a PT 1/week for a couple of months who gave me exercises to work on the imbalances and Graston'd the hell out of my IT bands when I was in the office. I was running within 3-4 weeks with no pain at all, and with a once a month "tune up" I haven't had any since.

 Run angry.
This. I have a playlist entitled RUN ANGRY for just such an occasion.

This sounds interesting, will check it out, may add it to the list...

LOFL, my list is sooooo much longer than yours! F'n speed guys :lmao:
Was thinking that. I don't use playlists, I use album lists.
As oft-stated, I don't use headphones. I just focus on my HR data while thinking about rainbows and unicorns.

Ned, the calves are quite good. I jogged a couple miles yesterday (with a few accelerations), and could feel a little tightness later in the day. But it feels pretty normal this morning again.

47 miles over the last 5 days. About 10 of that speed walking. Legs are a little sluggish, but no major aches or pains. Flirting with dropping below 210 pounds.
Got bored and ran 8 more tonite followed by a 2 mile walk. 57 miles in 5 days including an of day. Probably will take tomorrow off, hunt on Friday, and race on Saturday.
I'll race ya to 200 pounds. 215 now.................and.....................go......................... :hifive:
So I am racing this guy down to 200 pounds and this 15 pounds is very important to me. Can you guys give me some advice that will help me get this 15 pounds off almost immediately? I dont care if that advice is bad long term advice because I only care about short term immediate results, not the long haul. Thanks in advance. Well not really thanks because I will either reject or disagree with all of your advice.
Cut out all carbs and alcohol. But I'm a fat guy, so I don't really know.

5'11", 188 before I hopped on a plane Monday for week in Atlanta for our annual client conference, which includes lots of client entertaining, aka carbs and alcohol - I ate a fried donut with ice cream while drinking last night.

I did get in a 10 mile run on Tuesday morning, and then yesterday did something I wasn't sure I ever would again - I ran on the hotel treadmill! I have my Metabolic Efficiency test next week, so I figured it might be a good idea to put in a few miles on a treadmill before then to get a feel for what that's like. First time on a dreadmill since early 2009. Of course I did bust out four quarter mile 7.5% grade hill repeats and ended up with about 500' of elevation gain for my 3.5 mile run, so it was almost like a normal run for me. Ok, not really. I don't know how you treadmill guys do it.
