Ran a 10k - Official Thread (8 Viewers)

My watch says 2.05 miles the phone app says 1.95.....

Even though I sync from the watch

I think I can do 5k although it would be slow I'm trying not to push it too fast

Should I edit my runs to match the watch?

Eta: nm looks I can't actually edit it

4 Miler official results - 29:15

99/3139 overall

78/1414 gender

18/258 M30-39

Fun local race.  I wanted to get sub-30 minutes as my goal once I decided to actually race it.  It was windy out there and I knew that miles 2 and 3 were going to be into the wind and 1 and 4 we were going to have it at our back.  Tried to bank some time in mile one and was able to maintain the pace for 2 and 3.  With the wind behind me, mile 4 was a PR at 6:58, which was a bit of a surprise.  Very happy with this race overall!

#projectcadence - average of 170  :coffee:

My garmin watch was a total **** today.  Warmup jog to the race from the parking lot, I got a performance of -7.  I didnt know it could go that low.  Post race it told me that I was Unproductive...F that guy!  <_<

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone, I appreciate all of you in here.  You have made running so much more fun and the encouragement/advice helps keep me going

Hahahahaha. Wanted to fight my Garmin watch after the race. Told me I was unproductive and VO2 Max dropped 2 points! I think it was because I forgot to stop my watch for like 4 mins after. I did take @gianmarco’s advice. I didn’t use my watch for my warm up run, and I didn’t look at it when it buzzed for my performance.

Just officially signed up for the trail run in March. Just talked my nephew into doing it with me. Was pretty easy to do when I told him I was paying. Lol. Should be fun times.

He did look nervous when I told him there was a 50 mile race. He was much more excited about just doing one loop and 23k.

:lmao:

Just bought a sweet treadmill online as a Black Friday deal. Gonna go pick it up at the store after the dust settles from the crazies.

This one, but only $799.

Yay? :oldunsure:

Oh, we're doing Black Friday stuff?

I was gonna do the Garmin Vivoactive for $199, but just saw that Amazon has the 645 running for $245 today.  I think that looks good for me.

Forerunners are a significant upgrade. Worth the extra  :moneybag: imo.

Getting a new mattress. My memory foam one is dead. Good sleep is important.
We'll be doing the same.

King sized mattress and new bedroom furniture. This will be the 2nd set of bedroom furniture and 3rd mattress we've bought in 22 years.  First set we bought was cheap stuff, then 5 years ago her parents gave us their set they had since the 80s.

Ours is coming tomorrow. Took all of 10 minutes to buy it.

Just bought a pair of Altra solstice, compression singlet and compression shorts for $94 at left lane sports. 25% their online prices today.

I liked my last pair of solstice a lot, got a good 365 miles out of them.

I wish Strava had the ability to show you your runs with different shoes. I know certain shoes are better for racing but it would be interesting to see all the training by shoe.

Oh, wow, I missed that. Yeah, absolutely.

Wouldn't it be better to get the 645 music for $249, or am I missing something?
That said, the 645 came out in 2018 and doesn't have the new heart sensor technology that is in the 245 and 945. It's probably why it's on sale as I'm guessing we may see updated models out next year.

FWIW, you can get the 645 without music for $199. That's pretty solid.

Someone else bought some panties!!!

Ok- I asked about training plans for a half. Just looked up a couple...yeah- I'm not running six days/week.

My thinking is 3/week... Long run on weekend (I'll follow a plan and just use the long run) and 2x tempo runs, 3-5 miles. One will be an out and back thing I used to do (probably 5 mins each way, x3) where each out is further than than the previous (my favorite training tool back innaday for pacing) and the other will be bursts over short stretches.

Sound about right?

I won't be able to get a lot of miles in...but I'm hoping the legs will remember the previous miles put in to make the race ok. Given that, I also have to come to grips with knowing I can't possibly come close to PRing this... I'm extrapolatimg my weekly conversational 9-9:30 7m runs and figuring I can shoot for 1:50. Of course, I'll see where I am in two months and adjust from there.

The others with more experience can answer better, but I'd think you'll want one of those midweek runs to be slow/easy.

I like everything about it except for the fact the display won’t show pace. Seriously. WTF.

Might have to take it back just for that alone.
"Sir, I think you need to run just a little faster than you are. Minimum pace of 15:00 for it show...."

Left my sisters house at 2 am and just arrived home at 9:30 am.  Finally insomnia pays off for me!

time to get the Xmas tree, winterize mower, clean up yard of any final leaves, get the snowblower running.  Hope to get my third day in a row of running in as well. Hip is definitely feeling better.

they are saying 10-16” of snow at my house Sunday into Monday

Lemme know how you like it, really would like to have one to help out on tight schedule days.
OK, so here is my initial review after an initial 6 miler:

1. No pace on the display. Doesn't look like I can put it there either. Major bummer for me, especially since I'll probably have to do some speed work on this thing during the winter. Calculating speed to mileage to pace on the fly is not my strong suit. So I will probably have to print out a cheat sheet and hang it to the wall. I know I didn't buy the most expensive treadmill on the market, but displaying pace to me is a no-brainer and every runner would want that.

2. Motor and belt seem to be pretty solid. This one had the 3.5 HP motor, which is one of the things I wanted. Belt tracked well and had plenty of cushion. So the run was fine.

3. This one has pretty nice fans, one on either side. Pro Form also makes a version where the fan is below the main panel and goes horizontal. When I tested one of those in the store a few weeks ago, it was worthless. So the fans on either side of the control panel worked good. Air hit me about chest high on both sides. Worked good.

4. This one has speakers, but I need an auxiliary cable to plug my phone in, so no idea on the sound quality yet. So no blue tooth on this one...

5. Unless you want to use the iFit. I signed up, but I'm not going to use it. Will probably cancel today. I'm not paying for someone to tell me how to workout.  I should probably explore this today just to make sure.

So overall, for a treadmill it works fine. Other than the display thing. For what I need it for, it will be fine.

I looked here and it states you can see the pace.  Maybe try calling the company to find out if it can be displayed somehow?

The 7-inch backlit display will show your workout information such as incline level, heart rate, power in watts, speed of walking belt, elapsed time, your pace, calories burned, and distance completed.

24/30 for 194 miles in Nov. and just under 1800 ytd. Will not be getting to 2000, will get it next year.

Race in a week, merrily tapering.
