Also...Hotmail? Really?
Ha!  That just tells you how long I’ve been using PayPal.

I do have the same email alias @gmail, @yahoo, @outlook, @ymail, and probably a couple of others that I don’t even remember anymore. Pretty sure my AOL and Prodigy versions no longer work.

Purely FYI.  Red wine, turkey, stuffing, and pie do NOT make for good running fuel.

Man, red wine screws me up.  Need to stay away from that ####.

Merry Christmas, #BMFs!  Bros (who are) Merry (and) Festive!

With Miwok being here in Northern California there is Napa Cabernet and Sonoma Zinfandel at every aid station. So my advice is to keep training with red wine until you get used to it.

Ugh, I'll just shrivel up into a prune and some squirrel will eat me.  As if a 100K wouldn't dehydrate me enough already!

Running gear haul:

- Flipbelt (thanks @gianmarco)

- Skullcandy wireless ear buds

- Body glide

- 2 long sleeve Nike running shirts

- haven’t gotten it yet but a Garmin tracker will be my big gift

Sports-related gifts:

- a16 oz drinking glass ..with the Boston course map etched around it.

- a swim buoy (straps around the waist and gets dragged along on an open-water swim for visibility)

Sports gifts:

New pair of running gloves (since losing one during the Monumental, I had just been wearing socks on my hands - worked for me but my wife thought it was dumb, lol)

Umpire gear - mask, chest plate, shin guards, plate brush, ball/strike/out clicker, ball bag)

It is almost 70 degrees and sunny here on Christmas.  Insane.  Heading out for a few miles with my better half.
It was about 40 so when I started. Close to 50 by the end. Was awesome out there.

Took some ibuprofen before running, leg still had some pain and swelling but not too bad.

Do you love the flipbelt already?
Actually yes.  My arm strap broke about 2 months ago so I’ve been pretending to be Mac and running carrying my phone and I honestly think it was causing me a pain in my shoulder blade.  I put the flip belt on and my ear buds and walked around the house - loved it.  Can’t wait to get out for a run tomorrow.

Great day for the family, lots of fun across the board with 16 of us. I'll never like spending as couple nights at her sister's house while the wife stays with her parents, would much rather stay home Christmas Eve and drive up after Christmas morning, but I lost this "fight" years ago as part of the "I'm staying in the Army" compromise.

Gift wise - Wife and I gifted each other bedroom furniture; her parents built her a desk and gave me sheets; for siblings we draw names, BIL gave me 4 running shirts, which I do need as most of mine stink despite washing with baking soda.  Kids were happy with online gift cards, bikes, a motorized skateboard, and other toys.

Do you throw away your past race swag when it won't unstink?  I probably should, but don't want to.

Powerbeats Pro (these things seem so much better than the cheap #### I usually buy that last only a few months.  Can't wait to try them on a run.  Such a great ear fit.)

Hoka Bondi

Asic GEL-Cumulus

Smartwool socks

Wash with vinegar.  After a couple washes, it completely took away smell from my clothes.  In fact, if it's stubborn, wash with ONLY vinegar first and THEN wash with detergent.

Will do. A few shirts smell better after baking soda, others not at all.

Will try vinegar, then maybe toss if that doesn't work.  I mean, the shirts are 10+ years old, and have been worn probably over 500 times. so maybe there's a shelf life.

I learned this when trying to get a "mildew" smell out of older towels.  It worked like a charm on all of them.

In fact, I now use vinegar for every wash.  I just put some in the compartment that calls for bleach.  My running clothes smell remarkably better and haven't had any issues for months now since doing that.  If I have any clothing or towel with a stubborn smell, I do the double wash with vinegar alone first and then with detergent.

Finally, I used to always use fabric softener.  I don't use it anymore.  I found it was actually locking in some of those smells (read about it and found it to be true when I stopped using it).  This is coming from someone that sweats a lot and isn't always the most pleasant smelling person after I exercise combined with a wife that has a very particular nose.  Since making those changes, no complaints at all.

I always use Nathan detergent made for tech gear, and never use fabric softener sheets. Helps the fabric keep its wicking properties, and de-stinks things pretty well.

Yes, I have a separate laundry hamper for my running gear.

I may not be able to beat any of you at any distance under 50K, but I'll always have 2019 Fantasy Football.  Good thing, as I've got that unexpected $380 Ultrasignup fee that hit my credit card yesterday to pay for.

How about we just go in order of the above list, $50 each first 8 pay me, last 3 pay @TripleThreat, and @SteelCurtain played for free - that work for everyone?  Payment details in spoiler tags.

Thanks @ChiefD for organizing this thing, and for that epic draft order video!

Sounds good. I need to reload paypal, so it will be a few days before my dough comes over. Congrats on the win!

OK, my dudes.  Here's the email that I just sent my coach.  Would really like some honest feedback/recommendations from you guys as well:

Need some advice from you—right now I’m signed up to run 4 marathons this spring:

·         Carmel Marathon on April 4 (only paid $48, so no big commitment here)

·         Boston Marathon on April 20

·         Prague Marathon on May 3

·         Lublin (Poland) Marathon on May 10

Obviously a lot to unpack here…

Don’t really care that much about Carmel and currently leaning towards skipping it.

I never run well in Boston, so I don’t think I’d attempt a PR, but a course PR (sub-3:10) would be nice…

Then there’s Prague 13 days later and Lublin one week after that.  I would love to treat Lublin as a goal race—it’s my wife’s hometown (so I’d have friends/family out there cheering), I’m familiar with the course, and a sub-3 marathon could theoretically put me in the top 10 finishers.  But I don’t know if that’s even realistic since I’ll be running two other marathons in the three weeks leading up to the race, and one of those is Boston, which is a race that’s typically slower for me to recover from.  And if I do give it a shot, obviously I’d want to run Prague nice and easy.  But HOW easy?  At what point does the extra time on your feet outweigh the benefit of going easy?  And it’s not like I can focus on rest/recovery during the in-between time, as we’ll be traveling in Europe, lots of walking, less-than-ideal nutrition, etc.

Looking forward to your honest feedback.  Next Monday is 16 weeks until Boston…

@gruecd - if the Poland race is your goal race and want to be firing on all cylinders, I would skip the Prague race.

If Prague is a destination race and you are going to run it no matter what, then I don't know what to tell you.  The way you are so competitive I just don't see you "taking it easy" on any race. Which would then put the Poland top ten goal in jeopardy.

Heck, even if you take it easy in Prague that would be tough.

I see it like this:

Skip Carmel

Try and go Sub 3:10 in Boston

Skip Prague

Lay it all out there in Poland to prove your American Bad-Assery in front of family and friends.

That's what I suggested but Prague is a destination race and he doesn't want to pass it up.  Not sure there is a really a good way to do both with goals of "participating" in Prague and going for top 10 in Lublin.  But if anyone can do it....

Not much to add advice wise. I think you are experienced enough to know how to handle it. Listen to your body on race day for the 4 marathons. I personally think you’re capable of running 26.2 at an easy pace without it have a huge impact on your body. Me on the other hand, I’d need weeks to recover. Looking forward to how this plays out.

I threw my name in the Angeles Crest lottery last week when I saw a FB post that it was about to close.  I figured my odds of getting in would be 20% at best based on the number of people entered and their lottery system, and the fact that I know people that have been trying for 2-3 years to get in.

What do you know, just got the email that I'm in.

This is the race that brought me to my knees last year, or should I say brought me to shivering to a cot.  Time to #getsome redemption.
Oh good God, I don’t remember that picture.  You look like hell, but at the same time fashionable as hell.   :lmao:

The best part is nobody is any the wiser that I even had it on.  Love it, although this means I need to get my Garmin sooner rather than later.

Right? You can't tell you have anything on. Fits plenty of stuff. Doesn't move. You don't feel it. It's awesome.

Btw, it's great for traveling too.

Just got done lifting at gym. It’s 55° and sunny outside. Somebody please help me understand why there are still people inside running on the treadmill...

...although I’m glad that the girl with the black tights and amazing booty was one of them.

I went out earlier today... my dog talked me into an alternate route than I was planning so we did 8 miles instead of 5. Leg felt good, minimal discomfort, little bit of swelling but not bad.

Worst part was how toasty it was. Just had shorts and a long sleeve tech shirt but I was sweating like the Dickens out there!

Feel pretty good about the cyst or whatever it is not derailing me too much. Still plan to have it checked out. It's turned into a decent bump on my leg.

Had an awesome morning on the trails today.  Started with me sitting in my car, in the dark, at the trailhead, lamenting how tired I was and maybe I should just drive home.

#### that.  I'm there already, so I got out.  Who cares if it's -17C (1F) and windy.

Got up Prairie Mountain in a not-PR, but respectable (for me), time.  Then turned around, and hauled-### down the mountain in PR time.  Back up the mountain, and had my fastest "same-day second ascent" time ever.  At the peak, I turn around and start running down, passing a couple community ultrarunners (who recognized me from the prior ascent) and I get a "Great job, man!" from them.  Getting in-person kudos from these badasses totally fires me up, and I'm determined to get back down fast and PR my "Prairie Double".

Which I did.  By 15 minutes.  /flex

Now I'm paying the price.  All good things in life must be offset by bad.  So I'm back home, on the couch, and the wife has "A Very Corgi Christmas" on TV.

Here's a vote for Salomon gear.

Have ~800km (~500mi) on a pair of Speedcross 4 GTX shoes, and they're starting to separate a bit on a seam near the big toe.  I've got great value out of the shoes already, but they have a two year warranty, so I file a warranty claim.  Which is super-easy.  Email Salomon a few photos of the specific failure, and the overall condition of the shoes.

Two days later I've got a voucher in in my inbox for a free pair of Speedcross 5s.  Shipped free.

Love me my Salomon gear and customer service.

If I were @gruecd....I'd do the following:

Carmel Marathon on April 4 - SKIP

·         Boston Marathon on April 20 - Race only if conditions are ideal (which is about a 2% chance) and get that Boston PR (you can run 3:05 and knock 5+ minutes off that Boston PR!).  If not good conditions, run slow and run with me (3:30 - 3:45ish)

·         Prague Marathon on May 3 - SKIP -- you will be married a long time.  You will have other opportunities to run this race.

·         Lublin (Poland) Marathon on May 10 - Go sub 3 in front of your adoring Polish fans.

I don't think you can run Prague at any pace and not impact Lublin.  If you are cool running 3:00 - 3:05 on May 10, then you could conceivably run a 3:45 at Prague, but to what end?  As a pacer, back to back marathons impact you...Trust me.

Yeah, I've been a fan the belt thing for 5 or so years. I never know it's there. I will still keep mine for days when headphones aren't charged or I want to do podcasts.

Not that I should be giving anyone advice about running, but @gruecd is such a #BMF, it seems like investing in one big push in Poland would pay dividends.

I am a disgusting human being this week...and it's still just getting started.  I've lived off of cookies, coffee cake and prime rib the last few days.  Had stomach pains for most of my run and barely made it home before it all vacated.

Tomorrow I have my work holiday party with unlimited food and desserts at Brio.  Saturday is a late Christmas gathering at my parents (my youngest has been sick so it got pushed) where there will be a feast and more cookies/desserts, the Buckeyes game with my favorite pizza...and its my birthday.  There has been talk about ice cream cake, which is my favorite, but I dont know if I can fit all that in (basically  @gruecd and I are dealing with similar things).
