Hi everyone! It's been a long time since I posted in this forum. Short version: I used to run a lot and then I got old and arthritic and I no longer run a lot. I still run when I can, which varies depending on what ailment I'm dealing with at the time.
My Garmin Forerunner 225 just finally crapped out. I am thinking I don't need to replace it, that surely there must be iPhone apps that can handle my needs now, especially since I'm not training for any races or worried about pacing or heartrate etc.
Do you guys have any recommendations? Just something to track my mileage and pace. It could be very simple.
Long story: I loved being a part of this group and several others online that were dedicated to running. I ran 12 marathons between the ages of 44 and 50. About six or seven years ago my online running presence got to be problematic. In two other online running groups I had some disturbing incidents. In one group, I was stalked online by another group member who had apparently been smitten by my online persona. This person did some very weird things and sent threatening messages to my wife. In the other group I became aware that one member was engaged in some extremely psychotic behavior online, essentially committing fraud and pretending to be multiple different people. My wife was completely freaked out about these incidents and asked me to disengage from all my online groups. She was especially concerned about things like having my running routes displayed online through Strava and the possibility that one of the online crazies could access the info, including my home address. The other groups were on Facebook, so my whole life was basically on display there for any and all internet loonies. So I left those groups and this one too, although the only crazy in here is how many miles some of you run.
All those things appear to be in the past now, so I feel safe to be back in here, although I'll still attempt to be pretty private. I have been told I am going to need two new knees someday, and one new hip. Who knew cartilage was a thing? I also have arthritis in one of my big toes. I go through joints like Snoop Dogg visiting Willie Nelson's tour bus. I run when I can (12 miles last week), and still enjoy it when I'm not dealing with an injury.
I see lots of old friends are still in here. I hope you are all doing well!! I missed you guys!
