Rather have your NFL team win SB and then be terrible or... (1 Viewer)

Was just wondering what you would rather have of these two:

1. Team is bad...has a good year and wins the Super Bowl...and then goes back to being bad...

2. Team is always in contention, and always has a chance to go to the Super Bowl, but can never get there or win it...

I would prefer the second just so it keeps my interest year after year...(but being a Viking fan I don't get either of them right now  )

My Buccaneers fan friend will tell you winning one was well worth all those years of losing and the struggles they continue to have.

Knowing the team will always contend but never win it is like Sisyphus rolling the boulder up the hill only to see it go back down again. Borderline torture.

I'll take the win.

But the key for me is that you don't KNOW that your team isn't going to win - every homer thinks their team is better than they really are so you always have a shot at the win.

I'm a Lion fan, wanna trade?

win one. easily.

years down the road, nobody sits around talking about all those fantastic 10-6 and 11-5 seasons that ended with getting pasted in the playoffs.

if you vote for constant playoff losses, I would submit you've never celebrated your team winning a super bowl.

I vote for team is always in contention. I follow a team that won a championship 20 years ago and has not been to the playoffs since. That team has lost all of its fan support and is an embarrassment to the whole region. Another team I follow has not won a championship in the last 20 years but makes the playoffs half the time. That team gets a ton of fan support and sells out every game.

I need more specifics. Is this a 32 year test where you win won SB and then suck the next 32 years and never make the playoffs compared to always make the playoffs but not winning the SB for 32 years? I use 32 as you would expect to win one every 32 years based on averages.

As a fan = win one. Remember the glory day(s).

As an owner = stay in contention every year. More $$$ if you continue to sell out crowds, have a good situation to entice free agents, but not have to pay Super Bowl winning salaries after you do win the big one. May not lose coaching staff to other teams. Lots of reasons to win, just not to win it all.

I would rather win the big one. Always being in contention means that I have a quality organization, but the goal of 32 teams is to win the Superbowl.

As a Lion fan I'd rather win the subpar bowl once and go back to being what they are.

I've been living #2 all my life as a Michigan fan and I think it's more frustrating than the Lions.

I am in the minority, but give me contending every season. As a selfish fan, I want something to invest myself in every season, and a good team helps that cause. I want to win more than I lose, because winning feels better.

You're saying that because Kansas City has been a loser for 30 years and you're trying to justify their pathetic playoff performances to yourself. In fact, you're such a homer as soon as I saw your name responding to this thread, I knew that would be your answer. You want a Super Bowl and you know it. Nobody wants to see their 9-7 or 10-6 team get trounced by superior teams in the playoffs each year.

Choice A, it really does do wonders. I didn't even care nearly as much as I normally would at the Steelers' disappointing season in 2006, after the magical 2005.

Clearly the owner of a team wants to be competitive every year to keep the local interest up. But every fan should know what its like to see their favorite team win the Super Bowl at least once.

There is one winner every year and 31 losers.

A guy named Vince once said "you show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser."

Screw being happy with losing. The ring is the thing, and it's the only thing. Being happy with playoff losses just doesn't compute to me. I'd trade every win for the next 5 years and have to watch Hockey for the Seahawks to have won that game last February.

If you don't care about winning, go play bunko and sing kum-bay-ya with the other women. Pathetic
I agree with you...as a PLAYER, but as a fan I am here to be entertained and if each game is meaningless after week 8 EVERY YEAR, I don't care if my team won the Super Bowl ten years ago or not, it is all about the present.Yes, I would love to see my team win the big one, but it is good to be a fan each and every week of every season.
