Ray Donovan- New Showtime series about a Hollywood "Fixer" (2 Viewers)

I watch a lot of these series-type shows while on my treadmill - good way to get in TV watching and exercise.

Anyway, am six episodes in (season 1), and I'm ready to move on to something else - does this show get any better, or is what I am seeing prettymuch it - a fixer (who doesn't fix all that much) with an annoying wife, dumb siblings, and family of origin issues he can't move on from. I thought this would be much more Hollywood underbelly fixing / tough guy Mr. Wolf style cleanup. I don't really want to watch a whiny family drama with daddy issues.

So my question isn't so much is it bad or good (that's subjective), but more of "does it do a 180 from what I describe above, or have I generally seen what this show is?"

You should probably move on.

A friend from work brought me into Season 1 of this on Blu-Ray recently. Tried like heck to like it, but it just didn't captivate me. Instead of having that "I can't wait to get to the next episode" feeling, I constantly had that "I guess I'll watch an episode to get it out of the way" feeling.  Disappointing, because I expected to really love it given the premise.

I watched season 1 of this a few years ago when it was brand new on Showtime and then canceled Showtime.

Now I'm back on a brief renewal of Showtime and started watching again picking up from S2.  I'm regretting it because it's been so long that I think I need to go back and watch S1 again.  The Jon Voight character is fast becoming one of my all time favorite characters ever.  When it's all said and done I doubt there will be a character with more quotable lines in the history of television.  In nearly every scene he says at least one thing that makes me either giggle or laugh out loud.

Really great series.  It has some lull's and some ridiculous super unrealistic situations they work themselves through, but overall, very entertaining show.  I liked how each season wrapped up cleanly yet flowed into the next season with a good open story line.  The good news it's renewed for a 5th season.

I agree.  Mickey is a riot.

There was a bit of a lull a couple seasons ago, but it got back on track and started off strong this season.
Agree.

I really liked the scene where Ray and Bridget’s boyfriend went to Chalky’s place and the conversation about wood versus aluminum bats that followed.

Agree with others, took a dip and then came back, although this season has gotten a little far fetched for me and going into the finale, feels like a mess even Ray couldn’t clean up, with all the dead cops and all.

He should go after Winslow, I mean she signed a death warrant for his daughter.

This has been a really good season IMO. Season finale this Sunday.

The death and suffering in Ray's wake has been substantial.

Just got done watching another great season.  The flashbacks were very well done....backbone of the season and made the overall story even deeper.  Very sad at the end....I liked that character, but I guess he was dispensable....damn Mickey!

Liev Schreiber said he was shocked when Showtime cancelled the series and with so many of the fans being outraged and upset, they caused so much of a ruckus about the cancellation of Ray Donovan, Showtime caved in and gave the fans a movie to end the series.  I just watched it, and really enjoyed it, some real good flashback scenes.  Mickey Donovan, what a character, Jon Voight was amazing in this role throughout the entirety of the series.

Man I had no idea it was cancelled and was surprised to find the movie last night. What I saw of it was good, I’m sad to hear the series is done it was one of my favorites.
