RB Brashard Smith, KC (1 Viewer)

Got ahead of the curve and added him. Seems like he could be a hot add later in the season.

I liked what I saw from him this past game. And don't like what I have seen from Pacheco and Hunt all year...seems like a no brainer flyer here. Might just take a few more weeks to truly pan out.

Idk if I like him as a runner though. Can anyone talk me into liking his running ability? Seems like a fine pass catching back
He was a decent enough runner in college, put up numbers. I see him as a 5-10 rush attempt player and 6-7 pass catches per game in the NFL. If he carves out that role for the Chiefs this year, he’ll be valuable for fantasy.

So Gio Bernard?
He’s more like McKinnon but 10 pounds lighter.

I felt lucky to get virtually for free via FA when he was a final roster cut. I assume due to his size and role that suggests. Size concerns led me to underestimate other recent RBs who became very productive NFL RBs.

Brashard Smith 5'10" 194 4.39 40

Running Back A 5'9" 199 4.36 40 (2000/20 TDs in 2024)
Running Back B 5'8" 188 4.32 40 (1500/12 TDs in 2024)
Running Back C 5'9" 192 4.55 40 (1500/8 TDs in 2024)
Running Back D 5'9" 194 4.65 40 (1500/16 TDs in 2024)

Also note Andy's history with smaller backs. He's had a few great ones.

My head is spinning.

This is just a "pick up any RB on any kind of news" type of day:

ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports that Chiefs RB Brashard Smith is expected to have “more involvement in the offense” moving forward.
Smith logged 19 offensive snaps last week, hitting the double-digit mark for the first time this season. He likewise hit season highs in carries (four) and targets (four). Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt are playing very inefficiently and Smith’s pass-catching profile fits well with the Chiefs’ preferred offensive approach. His chance to establish himself as the Chiefs’ committee leader, or more, appears to be upon us. Seventh-round rookies cannot be viewed as guaranteed to succeed, but he is absolutely worth adding wherever available right now, before we find out if Smith has what it takes.

Seriously. I don’t have the roster space. I have one team starting Marks and Dowdle. With Carter, Kendre, and Tuten in the wings.

Problem is he needs to jump Pacheco and Hunt to have real value. Without an injury what are the chances that he flips the script that much? They have Rice coming back, worthy healthy…they don’t need to take risks.

They’ll spread it around. They don’t care about fantasy.

Had him and dropped him for Carter.

I don't believe the Chiefs drafted Smith to be anything but a receiving weapon with a few runs sprinkled in. Reid recently mentioned something to the effect they don't want Smith running it up in there much (I'm assuming due to his size). That's not his NFL skill set, anyway.

Smith will almost for certain be more valuable to KC as opposed to his FF owners.

I don’t see him being fantasy relevant unless Hunt or Pacheco gets hurt. He looks good catching the ball but he seems like a limited snap share guy.
He's been an ok bye week/injury filler in PPR. Not great, but at least there's some value there. Not so much in 0.5 PPR or standard.

The best thing to say right now is that he touched the ball 4 times in only 6 snaps in week 5. Completely useless in non-PPR, but I will be following his touch and snap rates for the next few weeks.

Daily Chiefs
Brashard Smith’s ranks among all WR/TE/RBs with 15+ targets this season:

🚀 YAC/Reception: 11.4 yards — 5th in the NFL
🔥 Yards per Route Run: 3.13 — 3rd in the NFL

The “Give Brashard Smith more snaps” train is rolling full steam ahead 🚂😤

KC Sports Network
Andy Reid on #Chiefs rookie RB Brashard Smith:

“He’s catching the ball well, and I like where he’s at now. He’s in a good frame of mind, and he’s picking things up.”

I've been starting him in PPR leagues but holding off in 0.5 PPR simply because Hunt keeps getting these RZ packages. Wondering about that half point value going forward. KC getting Rice back improves this offense so much and Rice gets those RZ targets as well. If I pick him up I'd have to drop a back like Kamara (or KW3), which I'd be OK with but that injury to Miller means Kamara gets a ton of snaps. Hard decision to make. Anyone have insight?

I'd choose Kamara over him. Not enough work yet and they still seem to like Pacheco who's starting to get back to form. An injury to Hunt or Pacheco though and he's in business.

The only reason I can see Kansas City trading for a back is for the threat of both receiving and also the between-the-tackles stuff that this kid doesn't really do yet (he may never). But they're talking about Hall and Kamara, and neither of those guys are really between-the-tackles kind of guys either. Maybe they keep defenses more honest with the threat of running inside, but how many defenses are really concerned about Kamara getting rugged? Sadly, this goes a bit for Hall right now also, I think. I don't have charting data in front of me, but that's my impression.

This kid is faster and probably more shifty and tough in the open field these days than those two guys. I think (I've definitely been wrong) that we might see a bunch of this kid this Monday to see if he's up to it and up to snuff. Just a hunch.

Watching the highlights and he didn't just get carries late.....he was getting touches early in the game. Some good looks too.
May grab him and drop Tracy or Gainwell.

picked him up in my only redraft needing a RB2 (full PPR) was surprised i was the only bid since RBs are scarce
his hands and speed force Ds to account for him out of the backfield which opens up the intermediate passing where Rice and Kelce thrive
hopefully he gets a half dozen targets a game and some runs

Kareem Hunt (knee) did not practice Thursday.
Hunt suffered a bone bruise in his knee in Week 7 against the Raiders. He logged a season-low four carries and was held without a reception for the first time this year. Now he looks unlikely to suit up on Monday versus the Commanders. If Hunt is unable to play, Isiah Pacheco will finally get the chance to dominate the backfield carries, with Brashard Smith also pitching in for more touches than usual.

Reid said he was OK so not sure about what the blurb says

My team stinks, so I started, like a real team, playing the kids, Smith, Gadsden, Neal, J Higgins are all in my lineup this week. So far so good.

How do we feel about Smith rest of the way? Fumble didn't help. Pacheco injury does.

Any guesses to the workload he gets? Consensus doesn't seem to forecast a spike.

Been holding hoping for a spike, but I fear nothing really changes.

Seeing Rice in the backfield was a bit alarming.

Ideally we see him do more this week other than quick passes at the line of scrimmage and gadget stuff. If he starts eating into more of the Hunt/Pacheco regular snaps that would be impressive (but I doubt it happens).

I think he gets a slight bump in touches, but not much more than that as his role may stay the same. Overall, not sure the RB position for the Chiefs holds a ton of value these days, except at the stripe where Hunt is making his bones. Rice is being used as a hybrid WR/RB, so that siphons away some of those backfield touches. Also a lot of mouths to feed, so they don't need to create a ton of touches for Smith.

Hope I'm wrong as I own Smith in a couple of leagues, but have a feeling a lot of people will be dropping him after this weekend.

Yep. Holding for this week. If Pacheco is out and nothing happens, I'm dropping.

I had him in 2 leagues, traded him last week for a 3rd and 4th rd pick in 2026. I was happy to accept that offer.
In my other league I am dead last, and traded all my decent players for picks next year. So I play him, for a couple points.
But I dont think he will be much, just a bit too small, and in the KC offense, there really isnt a guy in the backfield. He'll have some games eventually where he makes a long TD or 6-7 catches, but if you arent starting him, whats that worth?

Dropped him.

He doesn't look good as a runner. Period. May get you 3-5 catches though.
I wasn't high on Smith coming out and I've seen nothing to change my mind so I think you made the right call. I believe he's one of those guys who'll be a better NFL player than FF asset.

Sure, Smith could have a long TD run once in a blue moon, but if he sticks, it'll be as a 3rd down back/COP, IMO.

I may flex him this week in full PPR. Snap count may go up and if he's going to break a play, on the road in Buffalo is as good a chance as any.
