RB Chase Brown, CIN (15 Viewers)

Granted the Raiders totally suck but man, Chase looks like the real deal. A threat in both the passing and running game. He should be fed like this every week tbh.

If Moss is out long-ish, Brown could be a league winner.

Some chatter that Moss could be heading to IR soon. Both the SI Bengals writer and Joe Goodberry (a longtime Bengals guy) mentioned that Moss's season is in jeopardy.

Some rumors floating around the Cincy in the market for a running back ahead of the deadline, would assume this could mean Moss might be done and maybe they'd go after a depth guy like Herbert or someone, but speculation at this point

As a Brown owner I wouldn't be against them going after some battering ram to handle short yardage and dirty work (just not all the red zone looks) to keep Chase fresh.

Cautiously optimistic. He just produced really well but against one of the worst teams in the league on 30+ touches. Let's see him do it again before getting too excited.

Hypothetical:

What would the Bengals RB usage look like if they traded for Khalil Herbert before tomorrow’s trade deadline?

I would have a hissy fit. Herbert is one of those RBs that I believe a trade could really help his fantasy value, but the Bengals may not be it. Everyone loses if he goes there imo.

Why in the world would the Bengals trade Moss, who may be dying, or perfectly healthy and sign Herbert.

They only trade Moss if they think they have an in house replacement.

Trading Moss would be to obtain draft capital, not to make a lateral move, with said draft capital, for a guy who doesn't know the offense and apparently doesn't take to coaching well.

To be clear: I haven't seen anyone saying that the Bengals would trade away Moss. Only an online chorus saying that they're going to trade for Herbert, and that it's imminent.

It would be an interesting move, to be sure.

Clearly they see something others have not.

Can't imagine Herbert would be traded anywhere but Dallas. But, what do I know?

My guess is we've seen the last of Moss this year and this comment today should surprise no one:

Zac on adding a RB with Zac Moss’ neck injury“We have to be open to everything”

I would consider Miles Sanders, CEH, Herbert and Jeff Wilson as main candidates. Unless Miami wants to come off Mostert.

Really blanking out on who they could sign as a street FA if they don't swing a trade by tomorrow?

Zack Moss, but who’s nitpicking.

It's actually Zack Moss.

Or Zack, but again, who's nitpicking...

Oops, got beat.

Where’s Zach Evans when you need him.

If Moss is out they need to add someone. The other guys listed are special teamers so we’d be looking at 100% of RB touches twice in 5 days most likely. That seems rough.

If Moss is in serious jeopardy of missing the rest of the season, the Bengals almost have to make a trade for somebody. Who that is and how much they are willing to pay are certainly up in the air. But there hasn't been as much RB carnage so far as usual, so there might not be as many buyers as usual, so that might help them keep the price down. Also for the sellers, are they eager to dump the guy for whatever they can get (which probably means he's not that good) or would they make the trade for the right offer, but otherwise are happy to stand pat.

My guess is that the Bengals won't really know much by tomorrow afternoon about Moss. Unless it's obvious he's toast, then usually there's specialists to visit, second opinions, third opinions. Sometimes a couple weeks rest might do the trick, sometimes they need season ending surgery. So they could decide to put him on 4 week IR, or keep him on the roster for a week or two, or many other choices.

Trading Moss away is almost certainly not an option - because nobody would take on that risk if they didn't have to. And he would probably not pass a physical on Wednesday.

In redraft I traded away Chase for Bowers and Nico the day before it came out Moss was injured. That’s still a no brainer trade I should’ve made right? I have Breece, Achane and Dobbins already. It just sucks to see after the fact lol.

in dynasty, someone just offered me a late 2nd and 5th for Chase. then a late 2nd and 4th before revoking both. I just ignored both. anything less than a late 1st is a non starter to me.

Teams need more than one RB
About 1-2 minutes before the trade was announced I finished reading an article from this morning by a Bengals beat writer predicting they'd trade for a RB and threw out Herbert, Sanders and Etienne as most likely candidates.

This is a lot better then Etienne for Brown's value. I'd have preferred Sanders over Herbert though but not big of a gap.

To your point they were going to get someone.

Awful. Not even acceptable this past offseason when his owners were just holding onto for the hope of these exact moments (he cost a 2023 2nd as it was). I tagged him at a late 1st price because of this being the potential to happen. Now I wouldn't trade him for that either I don't think.

People are saying sell high on Chase Brown due to a tough next 3 games + bye week. Would you look to move him in a package for Deebo or Metcalf, or is Chase a true RB1 in peoples eyes and stand pat?

Couldn't ask for a better situation for Brown owners than the Bengals filling Moss' roster spot with a RB who struggles with pass protection. Herbert presumably fills out special teams, Trayveon Williams is presumably the #2.
I think Herbert passes Williams in short order, maybe not this week since they play in 2 days, but by week 11 for sure. Herbert is an excellent runner (better than Brown or Moss I'd argue) his issues are entirely passing game related.

I think Herbert is as big a threat to Brown's carries as Moss was.

For Bowers AND Nico? That's outright robbery. Brown isn't worth anywhere near what either of those guys are. Wild to me that someone would hold Nico Collins all through his IR stint, and then trade him AND another top player for Chase Brown. You'd be easily winning that trade even if every game the Bengals played going forward was against the Raiders.

If you need WR help, I think those are reasonable deals to make, as long as you aren't adding too much to them.

I currently have AJB, Adams, Jayden Reed and DIontae Johnson at WR.

My RBs are JT, Achane, Brown, Ray Davis, Braelon Allen and Allgeier. If Deebo/Metcalf is > Brown in a vacuum, I could look to move him for one of those then say Reed or Adams for an RB?

Although RBs are hard to get in my league.

Herbert is no help in the passing game, whether that's pass protection or catching passes. He will be a guy who gives Brown a breather and that is probably all. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

someone gave you Bowers and Nico for Brown? Before the Moss injury came out?
If I was in that league, I would have to question that trade

Herbert couldn't even beat out Roschan Johnson for touches in Chicago. He may get a series every now and then, but it'll probably take a couple of weeks. As a new Brown owner (got him and DJ Moore for Olave... whoop!) I am not really worried.

What I see is that Herbert will take the clock killer role once he is up to speed. He will put a dent in Brown's upside for sure.
