RB Chris Carson, SEA - 10.7.21 - Neck Issue (2 Viewers)

Chris Carson rushed 16 times for 91 yards, catching all three of his targets for 26 yards in Seattle's 28-16 Week 1 win over the Colts.

Carson handled 19 of Seattle's 23 backfield touches, out-carrying both Rashaad Penny (calf) and DeeJay Dallas 16-3. It's the exact type of workload one would expect after Russell Wilson championed the front office to re-sign Carson to a two-year, $14.6 million contract in March. With Penny already suffering from a first-quarter injury, Carson will undoubtedly be ranked as a fringe-RB1 with a full allotment of touches to himself in Week 2 against Minnesota.

Would Carson be a must-start next week facing Tennessee over Jamaal Williams (Det) vs the Packers?

Titans seemed to hold up well against a relatively weak Cards ground game. Williams seems to have a more favorable matchup next week so leaning that way for now. Carson's fumble wasn't harmful but still a concern.

Did Carson get any looks inside the redzone?

R. Wilson turning into A. Rodgers...constantly throwing TDs inside the 5 yard line.

Hard to complain. Very few workhorses in the NFL and he's one of them. Crossing fingers he stays healthy.

Chris Carson rushed 13 times for 31 yards and two touchdowns in the Seahawks' Week 2 loss to the Titans.

Carson handled 13-of-14 carries out of the backfield but wasn't targeted in the passing game. However, Carson did save his fantasy day with a pair of short touchdowns from one and two yards out in the second quarter. Carson has absolutely dominated backfield work through two weeks. He's a borderline RB1/2 headed into a Week 3 date with the Vikings.

I have him and I'm concerned about his usage. Yes, he got two goal line carries resulting in two TDs and yet, with two TDs...that's only 15 points in a PPR league. He doesn't get enough touches and doesn't do enough with them to be consistent and basically will only be a good week if TDs come his way. He looks good...they are just not using him that much.  It's concerning to me.

RB's on the Seahawks are very frustrating to own because it is the Russ Wilson show every single game. Even when they are up big they are still throwing it. The Seahawks did have multiple long passing TD's (Lockett x 2 and Swain)  in the first 2 weeks which didn't help the run game/game scheme. As long as Carson keeps getting the goal line carries and stays healthy, I think what he is doing is what was expected.

I think teams in general are concerned about RBs holding up over the longer season.  I am speculating that RB carries across the board are lower so far this season.  I would be interested in a study comparing workload projected out for all the games this season vs historic.

Chris Carson rushed 12 times for 80 yards and a touchdown and caught 2 passes for 2 yards in the Seahawks' Week 3 loss to the Vikings.

Carson briefly exited the game with an unknown injury but returned after a short stay on the sidelines and didn't appear limited in any way. After looking sluggish in Week 2, Carson returned to form versus the Vikings, breaking off multiple long runs including a 30-yard scamper that ended with a touchdown. Through three weeks, Carson has just five catches to his name. That will prevent him from posting elite fantasy numbers but he can get by through carries and efficiency. He comes in as a high-end RB2 versus the 49ers next week.

Guy is so good but 12 carries? I'm pretty sure he had 10 or 11 at the half. Weird usage. Would have loved to see him get a few more, could have had a huge day.

Seahawks always abandon the run way too quick, Carson having a 20+ touch day is going to be rare as long as Russell Wilson is the QB.

Carson owner here a bit concerned. Not because of his play, but because this SEA D is so terrible that gamescripts could work against him.

This is the fourth season I've had CC on my roster and every year there seems to be a new reason as to why he's going to fail. They drafted Rashad Penny, no really Penny's taking over, RBBC, health...and yet he just keeps chugging along as a solid RB2 who occasionally gives you RB1 numbers.

He's currently RB7 in my standard scoring league - great RB2 and he's value every year.

Good value and a solid RB2 for sure, but he could be getting so many more opportunities in a strong offense, but he doesn't.

Maybe Collins' increase in touches was injury related:

Seahawks RB Chris Carson did not practice on Tuesday due to a neck injury.

Carson has seen his snap share drop below 50% over the past two weeks, so it's fair to wonder whether something has been bothering him. The Seahawks have a short week before playing the Rams on Thursday, so it'll be critical to monitor reports over the next couple of days to evaluate how much can be expected of Carson against a fierce Los Angeles front.

No way can you start Carson. He's iffy. Even if he's active almost a guarantee Collins is mixed in. This has nothing to do with "veteran rest"

Dugar, Michael-Shawn

@MikeDugar

Chris Carson (neck) will be a game-time decision, Pete says. Chris didn't practice Tuesday or Wednesday.

Not sure who Fantasy Doctors are ( @Joe Bryant maybe you can shed some light if they're legit in the industry or not) but they have done a video speculating on Carson's possible injury.

All this guy's opinion but according to their about page, he is a licensed medical professional. They have 50k subs on YouTube and have been around since 2015. Take it for what it is.

dude is melodramatic and tends to err on the side of sky is falling. That said I have watched his clips on occasion.

They're playing the Jets. If there were ever a game to put Mike Davis in, this is it.

Perhaps, but the Jets record against RB's could possibly be deceiving.  (and I own Davis).

However, two of the RB's that the Jets faced were Henry and CMac. Damien Harris averaged less than 4 ypc, Gordon barely cleared 3 ypc, and Javonte Williams barely cleared 2 ypc. However, they all had TD's....so Davis will need one too, I think.

Yeah it kind of makes you want to puke. I avoided him everywhere but took him in one league at 6.10 as RB28. He is RB29 in that league so I guess that is good value. Even though he sucks and that team is losing. But a lot of people took him in the 4th. He was on my DND list but I couldn't help it at 6.10 in *one* redraft.

Dr. Jesse Morse is a legit sports medicine doc with an ortho group in Miami.  Some may find the ads and promotions annoying, but they're not that long. I find Dr. Morse's videos informative, discussing a range of likely outcomes. He wasn't too worried about Ekeler before game 1, which was a good prediction. I started following Jesse Morse after the JK Dobbins injury. He was early and accurate with informed speculation about the ACL.

"Chris Carson has a chronic, long-term neck injury...He's probably not going to play on Thursday." @CorbinSmithNFL on Fantasy Dirt @SiriusXMFantasy

Probably in the same ballpark as Damien Williams. Collins is talented and in a great spot, but you have to think Homer will be involved here too.

They are real doctors and very legit...It seems Carson is dealing with a herniated disc and has been dealing with it for a while. He could be shut down for a few weeks or just miss this one week. I'd be shocked if he played this week.

Too lazy to watch the whole thing.

Did he say what the source of the info was? That it was a disc herniation?

As someone who has suffered both a disc bulge and herniation this would not be insignificant. Hard to do anything without pain let alone carry a football and get crushed by lineman.

That said, this is something he's been dealing with for a long time. And they've taken MRIs, etc. This isn't a surprise. I doubt they would have signed him for big bucks if they felt that surgery mid year was a possibility. It very well could be that this will continue to be something that is managed well for the most part, but he misses this week due to a flare up.

Rostering your injured RB1, RB2 and both of their backups. Both starting RBs Questionable... yay.

Picked up Collins this morning off waivers after thinking this through. Thursday night football is screwing with me this year.

Two weeks ago, McCaffrey not fully recovered from Sunday pulls hammy

Last week Higgins not fully recovered from the shoulder

This week, too soon for Carson and the neck issue. Hope he's OK. Now at least I'm prepared.

I'm a Carson owner and Collins is still on waivers. Would you drop Latavius Murray for Collins? I'm on the fence here. Could use some opinions on that one. thank you.

Collins definitely had fumbling problems in the past.  If that continues then he's fools gold.  But it's possible he's improved in that area.

2016 Seattle - 42 touches, 2 fumbles

2017 Baltimore - 235 touches, 4 fumbles

2018 Baltimore - 129 touches, 3 fumbles

2019 - did not play

2020 Seattle - 19 touches, 0 fumbles

2021 Seattle - 15 touches, 0 fumbles

For this week, if Carson is out, Collins is probably a better start.  Long term hard to say - you need Carson to be out long term AND have Collins overcome his fumbling problems.

Any way you could do a quick trade and get something for Murray, then pick up Collins? Murray + a WR for an upgrade at WR?

Murray's technically a starting RB and not worthless. I like Collins if he gets chances but Murray's role seems reasonably solid (though certainly a capped ceiling), while Collins needs help to be productive.

Season long I wonder if Penny is now an IR stash similar to Jeff Wilson. Always hurt guy who might just have the red sea parted for him to have a couple great games before getting hurt again.

The painful part for me is I've been adding and dropping Collins almost weekly as the end of roster stash on my teams, but the week he gets involved and then the Carson injury report hit, I barely have him anywhere.

this entire Carson situation is very odd and I'm not sure why it's not being discussed like Montgomery's injury.  Williams was a hot WW pickup this week but there's no talk of Collins.  I was able to snag Collins in 2 leagues after waivers ran.  I guess it's just due to the fact that it popped up during the week.

Yeah, the news came late Tuesday afternoon; and even then, sometimes that just could be seen as veteran rest, although with a Thursday game it’s concerning. And the news has been very cryptic and people around here and on Twitter are extrapolating a lot with very little info.

Having said that, I think collins is a great add. I passed on him even after waivers run, because I just grabbed Latavius early Sunday morning and he just has a more clear situation.

But until Carson is officially out tonight, we know very little and the situation is murky, which is why many might be hesitant to jump and add collins.

News coming a little later...and the complete unknown timeline vs. a more known one with Montgomery.

But yeah...as a Carson owner (with Collins on the wire) and a Dwill owner, it has been interesting.  Im sticking with Williams just knowing I get more time with him.  But the long term possibilities of Carson make me worried I am letting Collins walk and in a few weeks I lose my fall back of DWill.

Dang this unknown stuff stinks. I have a meeting tonight so won't be around to swap Carson out should he be ruled out at game time. Are those in similar situations just pulling him now?

Chris Carson (neck) is inactive for Week 5 against the Rams.

"Neck" didn't seem like a body part that was terribly likely to be overcome on a short week. The fact that Carson has avoided injured reserve, at least so far, does bode well for his odds of a Week 6 return. In his Thursday night absence, Alex Collins will be the Seahawks' early-down leader against a Rams defense that has been giving on the ground. Collins should see enough touches to get himself in the RB2 mix, though Travis Homer could steal some carries while perhaps/probably operating as the primary passing-down back.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said it's "too early to tell" if Chris Carson (neck) will play in Week 6.

Carson missed Week 5 with Seattle playing on a short week. The Seahawks took his status to game-time before ruling him out, and the fact he hasn't been placed on IR gives hope he can return after missing only one game. With Russell Wilson sidelined, Carson figures to be the centerpiece of Seattle's offense if he returns in Week 6.

I just passed on picking up on Collins in one league because of the Wilson injury.  I just see at least a semi-collapse for this team on offense with Smith at QB (with an already poor defense).  Dumb idea or do you think Collins is still a good play?

P.S. I'm not looking at trading Metcalf, but I am worried there too.

I'd think the run game becomes more important now.

SEA is not going to have Wilson's efficiency on bombs away throws now. Need to be more balanced. Especially with that god awful defense.

With any luck, maybe there's success with this approach and it bleeds over later in the season when Wilson is actually back.

The blurb on ESPN from yesterday was trending positive "took a big turn" but not conclusive "we'll see how it goes". Didn't use the "day to day" language. I'm getting a pitch count vibe. If you have bye week issues, you will probably be all week wishing you had a better option as the "Q" tag sits.

If it's indeed a pinched nerve in the neck, then he's likely getting prednisone (is this allowed by the league?) and using compression/ice. Against one of the better run defenses in the league, it won't surprise me if he's limited in some way should he make the field. Already thinking this will be an ugly game with Smith in at QB.
