RB Christian McCaffrey, SF (1 Viewer)

Like you, I follow some twitter docs, and also hear Doc Pandia (sp?) on the radio - he’d said once the tendinitis calms down, he should be ok.

at least ok for a while. I think Tendonitis tends to go away and come back if I'm not mistaken, but my guess is he will get you at least to the end of the season once he returns.

It’s a repetitive stress injury. I don’t see how once it calms down that it doesn’t flare right back once subjected to in-game stress, which is a stress no amount of practice can replicate.

Even if he looks great in drills, practice, tests, whatever, the real test will be getting hit by a massive DL/LB that wants to tear your leg off, getting stepped on in a pile by a couple of 300+ pounders, pushing the pile for a 1st down/TD. They aren’t doing that in practice, no telling how his tendons will react.

Agree with this. Moving and cutting even in practice will also cause strain. I guess for some CMC is Wolverine incarnate. He's human and these types of injuries suck.

That’s an assumption.

We can only go on a week by week, game by game basis.

Sure, it could flare up.

It also might not flare up.

We won’t know until we get there. Not sure what good assuming stuff does anyone.

Everything about FF is an assumption

CMC has a history of pushing himself back from injury too soon as well, so I'm fully expecting him to come back too soon and hurt himself right away again. I can't back this up, but he probably was pushing himself in the pre-season when he should have been resting.

I heard his leg fell off at the knee because he was visualizing a hard juke.

Anyone have confirmation?
Yes - My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw CMC’s leg fall off at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
I heard that you were feeling ill. Headache, fever, and a chill. I’m here to help restore your pluck, cause I’m the nurse who likes to . . .

you can calm it down with rest or (I think) a cortizone shot, but the cortizone shot can only be done 2 or 3 times over the course of a career so you kinda wanna be careful when going that route.

I realize we're talking about a totally different level of athlete here with CMC, but my brother is an endurance athlete that got achilles tendenitis about 5 years ago and he's basically had to accept that it's just something he will have to manage for the rest of his life. He has a specific warm-up he has to do, and he has to limit the amount he can do compared to what he did before.

He actually doesn't listen to music when he runs anymore because when he does he accidentally runs too fast and it immediately flares up. Obviously whatever version he has would not be conducive to playing football.

like mentioned before, pro athletes have access to far more expensive and effective treatments than you and I get access too. your health care provider likely does not cover them as they are expensive and deemed non necessary. but I have no doubt he will deal with this for the rest of his life as well. but he only likely has a couple years left in his career, so he wont have to manage it for long to play football.

I have the same situation as your brother. Except I also have had plantar, in both feet. Hope he can manage it and enjoy the run!

he’s lucky to be the guy in SF next year…injuries are piling up and he’s long in the tooth. Mason dynasty owners can rejoice

Kyle Shanahan confirms that Christian McCaffrey has not undergone any setbacks. A return this week is unlikely but a return after the bye sounds very possible.

Shanahan says that Dre Greenlaw is also rehabbing well but a return is not yet close
All of the doom and gloomers in here who repeatedly shout that CMC is done in 2024 are going to be so surprised when he puts up a vintage performance in week 10.

Yeah! And it only took him 10 games to get there. If it happens.

I doubt it. His "comeback" is going to be short-lived. I'm willing to concede I may be wrong and only time will tell but my gut tells me he's going to reinjure himself or SF is going to severely limit his play.

Either way, it won't be "vintage" McCaffrey SF is getting.

Ya, I have to think that IF comes back, he’s not going to be the workhorse he was. Mason is not going away.

How are people feeling about CMC ROS? I have the opportunity to buy "low" on him and giving up Conner and Hockenson for CMC. 0.5 PPR.
People in this thread who are emotionally damaged by the ordeal this season are going to say that CMC’s not actually going to play again and the coaching staff is lying about the situation now, as they did to begin the season. Or cmc will be in a three way timeshare and have poor numbers. Or will play one game and his Achilles injuries will flare up and he’ll be back on the IR by week 12.

While all of that is within the range of outcomes, all of the recent reports are extremely rosy, and I’m quite bullish on CMC coming back in week 10 and looking a lot like the CMC we know. I’ll put it to you this way: I was offered Breece Hall for CMC straight up the other day, and I rejected it. Breece is nice, but I’m going to ride this out and swing for the fences. When healthy, CMC is the #1 player in fantasy and offers extreme upside that few other players have ever been capable of in the hobby. I’m looking to win the playoffs, not just make the playoffs, and a player like CMC gives you that chance.

Edit: I should add that the 49ers have a 4-4 record and can’t afford to screw around with saving CMC for the playoffs or gradually ramp up his work load. If he’s healthy, they need him, and will have to use him in a full capacity if they’re going to make the playoffs. Aiyuk is done for the season; Deebo and Mason are banged up. CMC will have to be the focal point of the offense if they’re going to win games.

Put me in the camp that thinks CMC will be reinjured. Tendonitis is a repetitive use injury. There is a high likelihood it flares up again.

For fantasy purposes, if you can buy really low, I'd take a shot. But at this point, if CMC owners have been holding out this long, chances are, you're not going to pry him away now that the possibility that he's coming back is imminent.

Was the package I suggested of Conner + Hockenson too much for CMC at this point in your opinion?

In a redraft league, last week I traded CMC, Pacheco, and Harrison for Achane, Hubbard, Waddle, and Hockenson. I didn't really have much choice to make the playoffs, as I couldn't lose more games waiting around for CMC and Pacheco to eventually show up.

In my opinion, you'd be stealing CMC with that pair.

Whether that is too much or not enough really depends on the side of the re-injury coin you are on and how much risk you are willing to take. Also depends on if you need players this week or can wait until week 10.

If I am in a great spot to make the playoffs where the next couple games don't matter too much I make that deal to get CMC for the playoff push. If playoffs are a 50-50 proposition and losing Conner/Hock (not so much Hock because you don't know about his injury comeback at this point) will put that in jeopardy then I probably keep the players and try and win now.

I would give that for CMC pretty easily. I think the risk is worth the reward at that point.

So back for week 10? Get around 15 touches. Then back to healthy size workload by week 13 or so with a 3 TD game...just in time to really rub it in the face of teams who he sunk!

Or, more likely, 15 touches week 10, back to full workload in week 11 where he reinjures himself and is out for the season.

My CMC teams are 8-1 and 6-3, by all means ease him back in then unleash him come December.
