RB Christian McCaffrey, SF (14 Viewers)

SF has averaged 34 more rushing yards per game than Carolina this year. With as big of a playcaller upgrade over Carolina as it gets. CMC #1 overall feels like a very reasonable expectation.

Kinda worry if this hurts Deebo a bit. His RB snaps are probably done with now, though lining Deebo at RB, and CMC at WR would be a tough defend for any defense.

Crap, just realized that means he’s out this week. He’s my only RB worth a damn
Why? SF plays KC this week.
Because it’s Thursday. Don’t think they can plug him into the offense that quickly.

I remember I had TRich when he got traded. Pretty sure I had to wait a week to use him. (I’m still waiting for him to be actually usable.)
He will dress and play.
Doubtful. Or he might just get 2 or 3 carries. No way you can start him in fantasy this week.
Challenge accepted!

Overall a boost to CMC value or drop? As horrible as Carolina is, he was their EVERYTHING.
Sizeable upgrade in my opinion. Honestly don't see his workload changing much in SF. More sustained drives, more TDs, more big plays.
Ya on paper it seems so, but I do wonder how it will actually play out. Will he be as comfortable in that offense, how long will it take him to adjust/learn that oline/field. I can't see him getting near the touches he did in Carolina, but yes definitely more TD potential.

Flies to SF tomorrow. I'm sure they can rush him through his physical and get him a place to sleep and all that jazz pretty quickly. Still not sure he gets more than 5ish touches. I think I have to sit him this week.

He’s got the football bloodlines/smarts to be intelligent enough to learn at least a few basic runs and screens/option routes are pretty darn universal to learn. “Hey CMC motion into the slot on 3rd and 6 and run an option route on that LB”

Dont think he plays at all. Too late in the week.

49ers acquired RB Christian McCaffrey from the Panthers.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Panthers' compensation is second-, third-, and fourth-round picks next spring, plus a 2024 fifth-rounder. It's not the first-round pick the Panthers were seeking, but definitely the next best thing for a running back in 2022. You don't need us to tell you the fantasy implications. McCaffrey is going from the least-coherent offense in the NFL to arguably the best-designed rushing attack, one that is never shy about targeting running backs. That is especially true with check-down artist Jimmy Garoppolo under center. Even with Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle in tow, McCaffrey is going to go absolutely nuclear. His arrival is a concern for his new teammates' touch totals. He could steal some of Samuel's slashing-style handles. Jeff Wilson, of course, is now droppable. As for the runners McCaffrey leaves behind in Charlotte, D'Onta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard will form a low-upside committee, one likely led by Foreman. Game script is going to be negative the final 11 weeks of the season, making it difficult for either to rise above low-end FLEX status.

They’re saying he will play…ish.

Gah! Now wondering if i should drop wilson and pick up forenan

No reason he can't see 10-12 touches this week. RB is the easiest position to learn, and CMC is about as smart as RBs get.

Not getting the pessimistic attitude in here. CMC is RB1 overall going forward, and its probably not close. Shanahan has gotten solid RB2 numbers from the likes of Tevin Coleman, Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, and Elijah Mitchell the last few seasons. None of them do anything better than CMC and are much worse at everything than him. CMC could easily be the centerpiece of the offense going forward and continue seeing his 20+ weekly touches.

Honestly, I think everyone else in SF gets a downgrade going forward. Deebo sees less RB work, Kittle blocks more, a big chunk of those short passes are now going to the RB position.

In the league where I have CMC, I will most likely sit him for Foreman (who I just picked up). In the league where I have Wilson, I’m leaning toward sticking with him for one more week over Clyde.

All subject to change based on what we hear over the next couple days, obvs.

ETA that league has an IR slot, so I would prefer he sits so I can pick up someone else (Drake/Latavius available; might start either of them over Foreman)

Deebo hasn’t been running nearly as much this year. Last four weeks he’s averaging 3/8/0 (which is fine as long as he produces in passing game)

Full terms: -- The #49ers get star RB Christian McCaffrey. -- The #Panthers get a 2nd round pick in 2023, a third-rounder in 2023, and a fourth-round pick in 2023. Plus, a fifth-rounder in 2024.

Worst possible spot and timing for me to see him get traded. Pretty tough to see actually.

Were I have him is almost entirely in FFPC redraft leagues. In those leagues his bye was week one of the playoffs. That sucked for sure. But now while he won't bye during the playoffs he'll be very hard to use this week, probably not up to full usage next week and then bye's in week 9. So those leagues have 6 more weeks and you are looking at him being unusable to maybe a shell of himself in 2-3 of those games. That's rough news to take on some teams, him not being on bye in the playoffs may not matter.

Otherwise I don't hate the spot, but it's not Buffalo and the next few weeks are going to suck.

Thanks! I think im going to hold onto wilson instead of picking up foreman. Backup to a previously injury prone CMC will vault wilson back into starter role. I also think mitchels days might be numbered now. Or SF will keep him on IR for longer. Makes you wonder if they traded for CMC because mitchel isnt progressing on IR.

I would rather him stay in Carolina than go to SF,
Curious as to why on this? If he stays in Carolina and they are 2-10 come week 12, what motivation do they have to continue to play him this year if he gets slightly banged up. I am scared to death as a CMC guy if he stays in Carolina.
This is my exact thought process. Teams like SF and the Rams are teams were I'd normally just as well see him remain in Carolina except for fact I'm afraid they pull back on his usage or slow play injuries later because it just makes to much sense.

I have read/hard countless reports about how if Carolina were to trade him getting assets back to make sure they can get a top QB in this draft is the main goal and every time I hear that I am left scratching my head. They are currently pick 1.1 with CMC playing some really good football and sure seems to me like just removing him from the team will all but guarantee you got all the asset(s) you need to draft whatever QB you want.

I'd add selfishly for me and people who have him in most FFPC redraft leagues, where I mainly own CMC and a lot of him, there is another potential benefit to seeing him get traded. Other then the durability concerns the other issue with CMC was knowing he'd be out on bye the first week of the league playoffs which is week 13. He's not only have a chance to avoid being on bye that week but if he should end up traded to a team like the Bills or Rams as examples he'd not even have a bye week at all. Might take a week or so acclimation period but that's still a lot better.
Man what freakin league has playoffs during bye weeks?

Yeah long term I don’t think Foreman has a ton of value. Also just realized he’s playing Tampa this week, so he might not have any value as a fill-in, either

Another owner in my league just picked foreman up. Now i no longer need to agonize over it anymore. 🙂

Not only that, but there's also byes week 14. The league is now 18 weeks, I can see not using week 18 but does this league have 5 weeks of playoffs???

It's the FFPC Main Events and FFPC/Football guys Tourney which have I'm guessing about 20,000 teams in total in those two events. 12 team leagues, 12 week regular season, league playoffs weeks 13-14, weeks 15-17 is the final round when you compete for the big prize. Don't use week 18.

This same format has pretty much been used since WCOFF introduced high stakes as I know it. Only difference was the 17th game resulted in a one week longer regular season. What changed of course was the NFL starting to put bye weeks, especially so many, in weeks 13 and 14. It's unfortunate but again as it relates to CMC I'd rather he was out first week of the playoffs then limited/out over next 3 weeks, aka known as half the remaining regular season for those contests.

Most of them since the schedule change.

Ok, that makes sense I guess if it's that type of league. That sucks though for late bye players.
Most of them since the schedule change.
Main event like Meno mentioned makes sense. Are you saying most Regular 12 man leagues do since the NFL schedule changed? They all adjusted from W14-16 Playoffs to W15-17 Playoffs. Well they should have anyways, but I haven't seen any that ignore the final 2 weeks of the regular season.

Intend to do everything I can to not use him this week myself but those who are mulling it and need a push.

In 2019 the 49’ers traded for Emmanuel Sanders on a Tuesday. He played that week, did not set the world on fire but got 5 targets, 4 catches and a TD.

They will need him. Seems like a boost to Jimmy G stock- another player that can rack up cheap YAC

A 2, 3, 4 and a 2024 5th
That is quite a lot to give up at his salary.
Read his salary is low this year due to restructure and his 2023 salary is not guaranteed but could have read it wrong.
Maybe I’m wrong, but it doesn’t seem like a team would give up that many picks for a 1 year rental, which means taking on some pretty big salary numbers in 2023 and 2024. There’s always ways to extend/lessen that too of course.

Feel like if he’s active you’re starting him but depends on your roster. For me it’s so I start CMC or white, Warren, Herbert. Etc Would rather play cmc in game v kc than those guys.

Wouldn't be shocked if Shanahan turns him into a slot receiver.
I think that's the smart football move. I hope he doesn't try to use him as a traditional RB in that scheme, he will get killed. But as a slot WR that gets a few carries a game, he's like Wes Welker on steroids. As a fantasy owner I don't love this landing spot.

For me it would be to flex a WR I'm not starting (Pittman or Godwin) over CMC. Champaign problems in that league.

Looks like I'm in the minority, but I think Shanny is going to want to show off his new weapon. I'm not worried about the Stanford man picking up the playbook quickly.

In a roundabout way, the CMC trade will end up helping NE some. The Pats own the Panthers 3rd and 6th round picks next draft from moving Stephon Gilmore and a draft day trade. With the Panthers going into tank mode, those picks will keep getting better and better.

How so?

Is Carolina going to be so bad that their 3.1 is going to get bumped into the second round?
