RB D’Andre Swift, CHI (1 Viewer)

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said D’Andre Swift will “sometimes” have a role “where he carries the load for the game.”

Swift in Week 1 against the Patriots totaled two touches while Kenneth Gainwell took over as Philadelphia’s lead back. Now Gainwell is reportedly unlikely to play Thursday night against the Vikings after sustaining a rib injury against New England. Sirianni on Wednesday said Swift will “be in that role sometimes where he carries the load for the game, and he’ll be in the role sometimes like he was in last game. Again, we don’t ever want to come out with him only having those many touches. That’s just kind of how the flow went in the game. We had things called for him, but sometimes the ball doesn’t go for him in a certain way. That’s just the way the defense takes it away.” Look for Swift to see a bump in touches if Gainwell sits against Minnesota. Rashaad Penny and Boston Scott will also mix in.

He wears t-shirts sometimes… and has hair.

When I saw Hard Knocks last year, I got the distinct impression he kind of didn’t give a f. I’m beginning to think I was right, Det knew it, punted him to Philly, and now they’ve discovered it too.

Say it with me: Bum.

um he had one target and one carry in week 1
The idea I’m working with is the coaches now see he doesn’t give a f so he ain’t playing much.

Gainwell 62% snaps, very telling for the long term season but i worry about this rib injury, can be very painful for a RB and Gainwell is not a pounder
Swift 28% snaps, but many of these were passing situations
Scott 12% snaps, I would have to look but I imagine this was when Gainwell needed a breather and not always 3rd down situations.
Penny, Healthy Scratch...doesn't make me want to bet much on him Thursday Night

What a mess

Gainwell officially out for Thursday, come on now Swift time, I hope. Looks like I will need him as Jones is not practicing so far.

Will be forced to hope for the best here and likely starting Swift in many spots but my bet is Penny gets the start as stupid as that sounds.
Against the Minn DL, I am not sure Swift would be the play. Penny is more likely to be the RB1 with Gainwell out. Even with him as a healthy scratch, I don't think Swift has enamored the Staff to be a workhorse RB even just this week.
Minn lost to Baker Mayfield ... TB had no Run Game due to poor OL but Phil OL will make it look very different ....

Seen this a few times and I don't disagree with the possibility Swift may not be viewed as a true #1 by the staff. But why would anyone think that Penny is viewed as a #1 by the staff?

His track record for health is significantly worse than Swift's (believe it or not) and Penny has been running with the 2s & 3s all off-season while Swift & Gainwell were running with the 1s.

If anything I would think Boston Scott is the guy we're all sleeping on.

My argument here is that the Eagles staff are absolutely crazy and that is the reason Penny will be the guy.

I am not saying Penny is the RB1 for the team all season, but I am saying this week vs Minn, in a Control the Clock game plan, Penny is more likely to be the Bell-cow RB.
Minn has a Pass heavy offense and can score quick and often with JJ, Addison & TJ taking the Phil Def all over the map. I think the high scoring game plan favors Minn.
I see Phil staff trying to control the clock and maintain a more run balanced offense to keep Minn Offense off the field (like with teams do to KC).
Swift is likely a 3rd & long passing catching role and Scott more of a fill in role.
I don't see Scott as more than 6 touches role. He is a staff favorite but not a big load carrier.

Penny was brought in for this kind of game plan, IMO. It was a tool they went after for a reason and this is how they will deploy him.

Predicting game plans is tough under the best circumstances but if that all plays out then...we still don't know what Phili will do with their RBs. Just to add to that narrative though, don't forget that Minnesota is down their starting center and possibly their starting LT. That could also play into a run heavy day for Phili.

But using that logic and concluding the assumption of Penny being the lead feels more like wishing hopes into existence.

It could 100% turn out to be the case but I don't think we have any data to suggest Penny will be the guy. We have a little to suggest Swift will have a bigger role but I'm taking that with a grain of salt too.

Yeah I just meant for tonight

Feel like Boston Scott will be the guy tonight, I dunno. Pretty good opponent to run on but I don’t have any confidence here.

This is our week swift gamblers. If we can't start him this week he is probably droppable.(if gainwell is ruled out)

We thought that last week with Penny out, and Patriots always game plan to stop the best offensive weapons. Swift is waaay down that list for the Eagles, and then they got the early lead and it was just perfect for Swift to break off a huge gain or two.

We got nothing and had to take it. Swift is riding the pine for me unless we get a direct quote from Sirianni or the OC that Swift is going to get all the work he can he handle.

Having said that he will probably go off this week.

I personally wasn't comfortable starting him last week and had him benched but I really feel like if we can't have confidence to start him with gainwell out then he's a bench clogger and should be dropped.

Is he durable enough to be the RB1? That was always the question in Detroit. What if anything has changed in Philly? Also none of the Philly backs have proven to be durable which is why they have 4.

Struggling with Swift vs Jamaal Williams in 0.5 PPR. Most projections have Williams slightly ahead but he looked so ordinary last week and Kendre Miller practiced today. Been back and forth on it about 10 times this afternoon.

Williams looked like he was running through mud last week.

Williams probably has a safer floor, but I’d put swift on a higher ceiling. The problem is Swift’s floor will is zero and none of us has a clue on his usage. It’s all just guessing. Williams will tote the rock.

Kendre Miller returned to practice today. He might not even play but it's certainly possible he eats into Williams' volume.
