Dameon Pierce was held out of the Texans' second preseason game on Friday evening.
Texans coach Lovie Smith relayed to the media that he "wanted to get a better look at the other backs." Translation, rookie Pierce has cemented himself as the primary early-down back. "Team loved what he did last week," longtime Texans observer Aaron Wilson reported. "When you get the evaluation you want, you don't necessarily have to double down in preseason." It does seem Rex Burkhead is still in line to begin the year as the primary pass-catching back, no small thing in an offense that figures to remain in plenty of negative game flow. Pierce is nevertheless a strong FLEX flier.
