RB Jacques Patrick, SF (1 Viewer)

49ers signed RB Jacques Patrick.

Patrick had been on the Bengals' practice squad before the running back-needy Niners came calling. The 49ers backfield has been ravaged by injuries -- a tradition like no other -- over the season's first two weeks, forcing the team to seek backfield help wherever they can find it. Patrick, an enormous 6'3", 236 pound back out of Florida State, could see decent run in the coming weeks with JaMychal Hasty (ankle) and Trey Sermon (concussion) highly questionable for Week 3. Elijah Mitchell is dealing with a shoulder injury that could limit him in practice this week. In five XFL games in 2020, Patrick rushed for 254 yards on 60 carries (4.2 YPC) and two touchdowns. He caught five passes for 49 yards. Patrick played for the Bengals in the 2021 preseason, rushing for 156 yards and a touchdown on 31 attempts (5 YPC). Patrick should be added in deeper formats.

He looked pretty serviceable in the Florida St highlights I saw.  I was disappointed someone else got him on waivers.  Derek Henry-lite 😄

Dude moves at a snail’s pace but he’s a load. Looks like a homeless man’s Brandon Jacobs. On any other team he would be a total scrub but watch Shanny give him a ton of carries just to troll fantasy owners.

Perhaps, not at his pro day he didn't. Not sure why but his shuttle and 3 cone scores there were worse than his 40 time.
I just think he’s not that athletic. Best attribute is obviously his size. Shanny is the troll king for even contemplating running this dude out there.

SF needs bodies at the position right now. But more concerning is that Shanahan doesn't seem to have confidence in Sermon atm.

No one should be at all surprised if a lesser athlete who Shanahan trusts more gets the lead role over Sermon right now.

My guess is Sermon is still having trouble with all his responsibilities at the position. Let's hope he only needs a little more time to get it all down and isn't actually Christine Michael 2.0

I agree that anything is possible with Shanny, and as a Sermon owner I’m also hoping the biggest issue is he hasn’t gotten up to speed on the system.

But as for trust, how much trust could Shanny possibly have in this XFL kid he just signed off the street? I could understand having him having more trust in the in-house options who have been with the team (Hasty, Mitchell), but at this point the 49ers options are a bunch of has beens or never were’s. If Shanny has more trust in these guys off the street or recently signed to their practice squad over a RB who has at least been with them in the system since OTAs, the outlook for Sermon could be more dire than we think.

I would rather bet on Cannon, at least he is explosive.
This may backfire against me, but while he was with the Jets, Cannon did not look like a RB at all. He had no instincts and is a weak runner. Now watch him go for 150 yards and 2 TDs this week.

Exactly!

Either way, barring a miracle announcement from Shanny that Sermon is the starter, this will now be there weeks where Sermon is virtually useless on fantasy rosters.

Cannon didn't see a touch on offense until after Sermon went down.

He's a special teams guy.

I don't know squat about this guy, yet I own him in every league now.  I threw just over a $100 fab for him in a few leagues and got him for free in others.  I thought what the hell, throw the dart and if it hits a league mate between the eyes, so be it.  I'll just throw another dart at some point in time.

He wasn’t signed off the street. He was on the bengals practice squad. Last year too I think

I got him in a 12 team shallow league as a luxury pickup- not a bad lotto ticket if your starting lineup is set. Also, CMC went down, so need as many lotto tickets as possible? lol

I'm always pleased by the fact when someone is signed to a straight up contract vs just being put on the practice squad. Think L. Murray who got into this right away, but he's 31 and the Ravens have no interest in using him in checkdowns. Just run with physicality and pass block.

Concurring w @TampaMike19. This guy fits lotto ticket definition perfectly.

Probably nothing special, but he has shown enough to be kept on practice squads. Opportunity is everything. If Sermon isn't ready, I don't think it would be far out of the realm of reasonable to see Patrick emerge over the other RBs.

I'm holding on a moderate-bench league for at least a couple weeks.

Cam Inman

#49ers John Lynch on RBs

Elijah Mitchell: Very questionable

Trey Sermon: Looks like he’s going to have opportunities. (if cleared)

Trenton Cannon: may get some

Jacques Patrick: 'You’re going to think you’ve got John Riggins back there."

Kerryon Johnson: maybe p-squad flex

The truth is both of these guys are most likely total duds.
