RB Jaylen Warren, PIT (1 Viewer)

ok so 2 of my direct opponents in the big national contest are taking 0s for keeping Warren in their lineup. One in a flex. I am in 15 such entries for $350 per. There are 6 other instances out of the other 15 where owners took the 0. I have 1 share and subbed (for Harvey). So 8 of the other 14 owners in these leagues are taking 0s. Bush. League. Note that of the 6 owners that have Warren on their bench - a couple of them had strong enough other options that they may have benched Warren regardless.

Both of the shares of Warren in my @fbghomeleagues - leagues 2 & 3, as well as my Scott Fish Bowl league, as well as my FBG Bowl league, Warren was left in folks' lineups and are taking 0s. Most in the flex I believe. The c'mon award is coming for a lot of people this week.

None of the owners in my 7 dynasty leagues took 0s, and one of them directly subbed Gainwell. In both of my home leagues, the people were able to bench him and we all live on the west coast. 630am kickoff our time.

Set an alarm FFS. Some bush league 0s out there.

How many H2H matchups this week are going to come down to this 0? Yikes.

I can see a lot of West Coast people not being out of bed in time to check lineups.

right, but my point is that we did. and I'd bet good money most people that took 0s are much much further east.

Fantasy football is supposed to be fun. Sites that allow backups for players that don't play is the correct answer. People have lives.

Apparently not if fantasy football ruins your day.

West coaster here. Set my alarm for 6:15 and subbed in Gainwell who I picked up 2 days ago. Fantasy gods rewarded the effort and I’m appreciative. Now if they could convince Hurts to actually throw the ball to AJB and I’d be set.

Told the story in my other thread that he was projected to play last night before bed. I “slept in” today until 6:40 - normally one of my kids wakes me up at 6:00 but my wife happened to be up and intercepted her (she had no idea Warren was declared out around then) and I slept later than usual. Woke up and immediately turned the game on from bed and heard the news. Too late.

Guess my point is that it is a true accident for some of us. I messaged both leagues I have Warren simply so people knew it wasn’t intentional. One drew some laughs and zero sympathy (work league where I’ve won it a bunch so no sympathy deserved). Other league the commish felt badly and let me replace Warren. Opponent didn’t love it but commish invoked a commissioners discretion for integrity of the league rule we have so I got fortunate there (though I could have put in goedert).

set an alarm. check the news. every time without exception unless you have no wifi or cell coverage. home leagues can do their own thing whatever but with as much money is on the line in the big contests, it's bush league and everyone knew what they were getting into when the schedule came out... checks notes... 4 and a half months ago. Plus they've been doing it for years. There is one of these examples every single year.

Update: lost by less than one point in this league and had J'Marr Chase who just needed a few more yards.

Wow. Just my opinion, but that move hurt the league integrity. "I slept in" isn't a reason to have the commissioner step in and switch out a player after the games have started. I'm not saying you lobbied for it. I'm saying your commissioner doesn't understand what "integrity of the league" means. I'm very surprised the other managers didn't make a bigger deal out of it.

Stung me in two or three leagues. Last I saw he was playing so I felt OK and forgot about the damn early start time. Bad thing is, I was awake early enough to change my lineup...just didn't think to check. Not like I had better options any way...everyone has owies.

It follows a league rule about submitting a viable lineup to maintain the integrity of the league. I woke up and texted immediately, though I didn’t ask for a replacement. My opponent didn’t love it. Fortunately, it didn’t matter as I won by like 40.

And :lmao: at 6:40 being considered “sleeping in” on a Sunday.

I misspoke slightly. Had 3 opponents and there were 5 others that took the 0. I beat one of these 3 opponents by over 60, one by 54 and the other by 38 so whatever

The other 5 owners:

*lost by 45 but could have subbed Henderson or Bill, wouldn't have mattered but not hard to imagine where it could have
*won by 19 and opponent had Marks on bench (not crazy but started Horton in the flex for 2 pts Marks v Horton might have been a coin flip there)
*won by 21 and opponent had Doubs on bench (again not crazy - they started Godwin not sure I would have done that but)
*lost by only 7 pts but legitimately 0 other options on bench. None that scored pts anyway. Tucker, Vidal, Giddens. Theoretically still had time to pick up a waiver claim and grab Gibson which would have given a victory. The only other two viable options were Singletary and maybe someone like L Allen, Perine and those three would not have been good enough. I would have easily gone with either Gibson or Singletary but anyway.
*lost by 12 in a competitive matchup high scoring matchup. Strange (TE premium) would have got there. T Hunter, Rhamondre, and Jennings were other options that wouldn't have done it. Strange had good trending already so that would have been a very doable start. Jennings banged up late game might have been tough to put him in there so I gotta think this is a clear L due 100% to not setting an alarm

FBG Bowl league owner lost by 38
FBG Home League #2 owner won by 21 and put up a 173 for the week. Geez.
FBG Home League #3 owner lost by 19 and had Doubs on the bench but also had Pacheco and Hollywood. You tell me who you would have started.

Thing is... it doesn't matter if they had zero injury designation Sat night. *Anything* can happen in gameday warmups. It happens all the time. Or, a player might... IDK... get robbed in a foreign country and sustain minor injuries. They could slip in the shower.

Set your effing alarm. (Or don't I really don't mind the shoddy competition)

Do you really believe that? Isn't it on you (not the commish) to be "submitting the viable lineup?" And yeah, if the game is on at a certain time, and inactives are 90 minutes before, and you sleep through it because kids/wife/whatever, you slept in. Who's the manager of that team? Is it you, or a collaborative effort?
Glad you won by 40, but that shouldn't matter. I guess we just have different thoughts on what constitutes maintaining the "integrity of the league." For me, it doesn't involve the commish tinkering with teams so the lineups look good. I feel badly for them now that bye weeks are starting. They have to sub players out if the manager couldn't get to it.

I'm not in any leagues where that would fly, but I'm glad it worked out for you.

In the league I commission the Warren shareholder learned a valuable lesson about contingencies. Had he texted or posted or GroupMe’d me with a contingency that IF Warren were out, please swap for [other player], I would have done that for him.

That is completely legit. Precedent set, as folks have done this for years, be it that they’re traveling, or away from internet access, or at a kid’s little league game, etc. Over the decades I’ve manually swapped a ton of player for folks. But he didn’t do that, so he was hosed. He woulda lost regardless so nbd anyway.

Simple commish philosophy: Prior to kick-off, I’m happy to assist you. Once the game’s started, that’s a you problem.

I play w ppl who pick up Jake Browning so the Joe Burrow owner they're going against has to put in a WR in their SF spot. I mean, if FF means that much to a person then I say you deserve the win. Others of us play to have fun. And if its that serious then I guess we deserve a zero for not waking up at 6:00 am to check our lineups.

Yeah, that could be seen as douchebaggery, but sound strategy. I'm not that kind of person, but ain't hating on people that do that. Makes is spicy. :ROFLMAO:

I’d definitely give some leeway to an owner that’s got a work schedule where they can’t reliably monitor player status. Working the night shift, taking a red eye flight or whatever. Everyone else can set an alarm and figure it out themselves.

Right. But even if someone tells me they’re going to be at a concert or out drinking - just send a message saying you “can’t wake up at 6 and if [X] is out, please play [Y]” it’s not an issue. Simple for me to do, valid sub.

As commish I want the transaction after the fact to be defensible. That means I have documented proof that a change was requested prior to kickoff.

Does Gainwell cut into Warren's volume after the bye? I don't think I can remember a game in Warren's career where he looked as good as Gainwell did last week.

between the injuries, both backs looking solid and a highish drafted rookie RB as a 3rd rb - throw in Arthur Smith who loves to split carries - im staying far away!

I believe Gainwell is fools gold, unless you're a Warren owner and have him as a handcuff. I could be wrong, but when Warren is healthy I cannot see a situation where I play Gainwell in my starting lineup, but that may be just me.

A big unknown. A knee not feeling right can be almost anything. Even with the bye in week 5 and short benches, Gainwell was picked up with a top priority waiver in my league, preventing the Warren owner (me) from picking him up. Kaleb should play a bigger role eventually.

Sure, if Warren's knee is balky going forward Gainwell is a great pickup. When I said he was fools gold to everyone except the Warren owner, I'm assuming Warren gets back to 100% health. As for Kaleb Johnson, I'm uncertain about him, especially in 2025. Just the other day I traded him in a dynasty league plus a 2026 1st round pick for Kendre Miller and a 2026 2nd. Could that backfire on me and Johnson becomes a thing?, sure, but Miller is more of the ascending asset, especially when Kamara is traded soon :) The Saints have no reason to hold on to Kamara IMO.

I don’t see any news anywhere, but he just got changed to OUT on my yahoo app.

Is there some long term injury news I’m missing here? Or just how the system works during a bye week where he was out last week?

MFL listed him as out in week 4, but questionable now because the Steelers got good news for his week 6 game. Seems reasonable he would be listed as questionable now during his bye week.

Yeah. He was questionable all week on yahoo. I thought these sites follow official designations… but didn’t know teams would submit one on a bye week.

On MFL he was listed as OUT late last week, so many missed the early game. But it's perfectly reasonable he's listed as Questionable right now for week 6, giving they have a bye week 5.

Gainwell had a nice game, but I think Warren has absolutely had better, he was outstanding in 2023, but especially the 3-week stretch from Tennessee, Green Bay, Cleveland.

The thing with Gainwell for me, is that we have 4 years of Gainwell looking like JAG, arguably sub-JAG. Even this season, Gainwell wasn't running any better than Warren was, and he's obviously nowhere the pass catcher Warren is.

I'm expecting something like a 65-35 split in Warren's favor. I think the biggest takeaway from Gainwell's performance, is that its probably time (arguably long past) to give up the ghost on Kaleb Johnson. He's no threat to either of these guys when they are healthy.
