Jonathan Taylor efficient in loss Sunday
Jonathan Taylor rushed the ball 12 times for 103 yards and caught two passes for 32 yards in Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Fantasy Impact
The Colts suffered a loss to the Packers on Sunday, but not much blame can be put on Taylor. He rushed for over 100 yards at an efficient clip of 8.6 yards per carry, but the team only gave him 14 touches over the course of the afternoon. He ended up having an decent outing for fantasy purposes, but the first couple of weeks of the season have proven that Anthony Richardson is a big point of frustration for the star running back's week-to-week production.
Anyone have any idea why the Colts suddenly stopped using Jonathan Taylor after
2 1/2 quarters?? I guess the script was for the Packers to win this one?? Literally makes no sense.
I watched the Steichen press conference and they pressed him on why Taylor wasn't in the game in the 4th qtr.
His lame response was he wanted to give Sermon more reps. Nothing about whether it was a pass blocking issue or anything else. You can probably search for it in YouTube, so go watch it. IMO Steichen got lost in his thoughts with regards to who was playing RB, while concentrating on the passing game. He laid an egg in this game for sure.
I agree he probably should've gotten more but sometimes the game flow just works out the way it does. I think when we look at the possessions directly it's not as bad as it seems. They're 4th quarter possessions were...
Start of 4th, trailing 13-3
1st down: Taylor catches 18 yard pass
1st down: Taylor rips 29 yard run
1st down: 8yd pass
2nd and 2: Taylor gains 1 yard
3rd and 1: Sermon stuffed
So Taylor got the ball on 3 of the 5 plays, and I'm assuming he came out because he was tired after two long runs and then another carry
10min left in 4th, trailing 16-3
3 plays ending with ARich interception
This is really the one where they probably could/should have kept Taylor involved, but it's not that unusual for a team down multiple scores with under 10 mins left to not come out running
4 min left in 4th, trailing 16-3
Lots of passing, scored a TD
Obviously with 4 mins left and down two scores you've gotta come out throwing, and they scored their only TD of the game here so hard to fault them for it.
43 seconds left in 4th, trailing 16-10
Obvious passing situation
So really out of four 4th quarter possessions you could really say they needed to run the ball more on one of them, and even that was in a borderline situation where a lot of coaches are going to abandon the run.
Yes they should have run more and yes they threw the ball twice as much as they ran in the end but 16 of those pass attempts were in the last 4 minutes when they were in an obvious passing situation.
