RB Jordan Mason, MIN (1 Viewer)

Welp, time to cut bait. I can't see holding on to this JAG when he gets a total of 1 attempt for 7yds in a game where he's the "RB2" (yes, I know he's technically RBS behind Deebo & Wilson, but as mentioned above, I have no idea what SF is doing running their best WR/ player between the tackles when they have actual RB's who can do that)

Wilson looked decent. Had the one nice run early (37 yards) that Mitchell probably would have taken all the way. Rest of runs were pretty pedesrian. He's a solid, back-up type running back.
I thought the "take away the longest run" line of reasoning was dead and buried.

Football doesn't work that way. No one runs for 4.5 yards in every carry.

Wilson looked objectively good last night, right up until that fumble, which was a game killer.

The disappointing part for anyone who has Mason on their roster is he got one carry after TDP logged 14 the week before.

Mason isn't seeing the field sans injury to Wilson. He's not going to take over the job from a healthy anyone.

Sorry, that's reality. We rolled the dice and crapped out. Such is life.

Unfortunate the offense imploded when he was about to get his second touch with the fumble(center/jimmy fumble). Probably a drop sadly

Jesus . I didn't say take it away. I said he made one nice run and the rest were pedesrian. It's a fact. The long run was well blocked and with any speed, he would have taken it all the way.

He was decent. But starting him isn't optimal for the 49ers. Part of the issue is they have never had a top end RB under Shanahan. They have spent a couple 3rd rounders who have failed. Had Kamara sitting there in the 3rd in the 2017 but traded the pick away and then took Joe Williams in the 4th. They have had a good running game using marginal RBs. Would like to see their run game with a more top flight back.

1 carry 7 yards. No problem.

THEN

Jeff Wilson game losing fumble!

😡

Make your case @ohio#1eaglesfan
Plus, using Deebo as a RB again. He's a friggin WR. Use him on jet sweeps or runs down by the goal line, but using him up the middle between the 20s is plain stupid.

Wilson played OK aside from the fumble, but he is what he is. Mason should have gotten 6-7 carries at minimum last night.
Besides the fumble Wilson looked very good. Not sure "he is what he is" is the right phrase to describe Wilson last night. Sounds me more of a Mason owner pissed at the lack of carries.
Nope on bolded. Don't have any shares of him

As a 49er fan, I wanted to see Mason get the carries that Deebo was getting. He shouldn't be running between the tackles unless it's near the goal-line. Too valuable to have him beat up with those kind of runs.

He had more than one good run if memory serves.

I think you mean pedestrian, not pedersian (type that way twice). I get it, you think Wilson isn't that great, but he's performed well on more than one occasion in the past. I agree their scheme has made backs look better than others would. but that is no slight on Wilson. If he does the job.. he does the job.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Elijah Mitchell (knee) is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

The injury was initially believed to be minor, but further testing clearly revealed a more significant issue. Christian McCaffrey is also dealing with knee irritation, but his status appears to be day-to-day. Mitchell will miss the remainder of the season and could be sidelined early in the playoffs, assuming San Francisco makes the postseason. Jordan Mason is the next man up in San Francisco. Mason, a UDFA rookie from Georgia Tech, earned five carries for 25 yards last week.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Christian McCaffrey is day to day with "knee irritation."

McCaffrey dealt with the knee issue last week, though it never forced him to leave the game. He totaled 15 touches while splitting work with Elijah Mitchell, who is now out for the remainder of the regular season with a knee injury. McCaffrey appears on track to play in Week 13, but his workload could be kept in check. If he does wind up splitting work, it will be worth Jordan Mason. The UDFA from Georgia Tech has yet to make an impact as a rookie, but he is in line for the No. 2 role now. Mason should be rostered in all fantasy formats.

Due to injuries and byes, Jordan Mason is a must start this week. For 49er fans, I think the upside is watching a RB who dishes out punishment, for a change. Mason runs real hard.

Jimmy Garoppolo hinted RB Jordan Mason will see an increased role in Week 13 game against the Dolphins.

“He makes it tough on defenses and I think those are body blows that wear on you in the fourth quarter, so it’ll be interesting to see a full game with him," Garoppolo said when asked about Mason's tough running in Week 12 against the Saints. Christian McCaffrey, who dealt with some knee pain in Week 12, said he "dodged a bullet" and feels ready to go for this week's game against Miami. We can expect CMC to lead the Niners backfield with either Mason or Tyrion Davis-Price taking over the Elijah Mitchell, who was lost for the season to a knee injury. There's a chance Tevin Coleman, a longtime Kyle Shanahan favorite, could be activated and mix in to the backfield against the Dolphins. Garoppolo's comments seem to indicate Mason will get first crack as the team's No. 2 back with Mitchell sidelined.

Picked him up for cheap in several leagues on Wednesday. I suppose he is a let's see what he is. If nothing, then kick him back to the curb.

From what I read regarding what Shanahan said sounds like both Mason and Davis-Price will get carries this week. Competition had Davis-Price a bit ahead until last week. But Mason pulled ahead a little after his strong showing to close the game last week. So Davis-Price will need to do well this week to overtake Mason. Both will have a short leash while Shanahan keeps Coleman in his pocket till he needs him.

The overall flavor though to me is that Shanahan will give preference to Coleman in an essential game and especially a playoff game. Doesn't want to trust two rookies and prefers a vet. But both rookies are also likely going to be given a chance to show their stuff.

Mason had a chance before and they by passed him for someone else. Coleman ring a bell to anyone ? A lot of times teams have a guy inactive or on taxi because they don't play special teams and when guys get hurt the guy playing special teams moves in for that game then they activate a guy and he is back to special teams.

I will be very interested to see if Tevin Coleman is activated for this week that will tell a pretty big story. If Coleman is activated I would be leery of Mason. If not activated who knows TDP was ahead of Mason that 1 game when it was just both of them earlier this year.

When is the deadline for the 49ers to activate Coleman?

4 PM ET today I believe

Well then. Seems like Coleman stays with practice squad then.
Sometimes we don't get word until later like D Jackson was brought up but it was not reported until 4:41 PM ET

Ravens elevated WR DeSean Jackson for Week 13 against the Broncos.

The move marks the third and final standard elevation before Jackson would need to be signed to the active roster or released to waivers. Jackson has played just 11 and 10 snaps in his two previous elevations, catching a vintage 62-yard bomb from Lamar Jackson in Week 12. Fantasy managers can likely find more certainty elsewhere for Week 13.

CBS reports that Coleman was not activated from taxi squad so it will be one of Mason or TDP as the #2 Sunday.

this kid looked really good yesterday and is the clear cut #2 behind an oft-injured CMAC. I realize Coleman would be in the mix should McCaffrey go down, but the pre-season hype clearly wasn't a fluke.

so I presume A LOT of us listen to the same podcasts, and one of my favorite guys absolutely butchered the TDP call (bc that's what Shanny did in Week 2 when Wilson was hurt)

it's hard trying to figure out what Kyle will do next but saw a lot of people parroting JJZ last week and I was dubious

Poor man's Earl Campbell.
I mean, in the sense that they are both RBs and one was obviously better than the other, then sure I guess.

I have long blonde hair, and own a hammer, I guess I'm a poor man's Thor.

ETA: Mason has looked solid in his limited work, and I'm not trying to disparage him, just having a laugh at the hyperbole.
I was mostly referring to his ability to truck a defender, but 6 ypc ain't bad either.
