RB Jordan Mason, MIN (15 Viewers)

Even if Mason is good to go next week, it seems reasonable to conclude that his fantasy value has turned into a pumpkin (as we head towards Halloween). Guerendo was no great shakes until that last big run, but have to think he at least earned a piece of the backfield going forwards until (if) CMC returns. It's not like Mason is some superstar - he did a very nice job as a replacement, but he was also basically next man up in that backfield. Could be the dreaded RBBC going forward and unfortunately Mason does not hold much receiving chops to prop us his fantasy value.
Guerendo was mediocre most of the night. He had a big run, yeah. But I don’t see that single run changing anything if Mason is healthy next week.
Yeah, I agree. Gurendo had like like 23 yards on 8 or 9 carries before that last big run. When he and Taylor entered the game you could immediately tell that the SF offense slowed down immensely, requiring them to have to pass it most of the time.

These guys won't have a piece of the backfield unless McCaffrey/Mason are out for injury, otherwise I expect it to be all Mason (until McCaffrey comes back).
Could be, but good luck getting into the mind of Shanahan.
I think we have suggested for years that Shanahan needs to be smarter with workload management for his RBs. Even with talented guys behind CMC like Mitchell and Mason, it never happens.
My guess is like his Dad he thinks they are kind of disposable and he can always find another good one.
He’s not wrong for the most part.

Nope…CMac is different which is probably why they extended him but overall they can often be found without committing big money or high draft picks.

Probably dislocated his shoulder, popped it back in, and got some cortisone.
I’m old enough to remember when Dalvin Cook balled out with a dislocated shoulder and we all talked about his harness.
So, you're 10 years old?
What does "you're 10 years old" even mean?
Well, you see Dalvin Cook has been in the NFL for eight seasons, he dislocated his shoulder 2021, long term memory formation begins, roughly around five or six years old...let me know if you still aren't following.
Ok, still a stupid comment. Not sure what it had to do with the conversation.
Y'know what? I'm sorry for that post. I honestly regret it as, while intended as a joke, it really does not represent being excellent.

I apologize.

If McCaffrey and Mason are out, the best RB on that team is Deebo.
Yeah, but he would be injured by like the 5th or 6th carry.
Deebo would get injured by simply watching someone else get their 5th or 6th carry.
😂

Why can’t we have a laughing emoji button for posts like this…..
Apparently some people ruined it for everyone else by using it to laugh AT people so the mods removed it.

In fairness you and I might have done that to each other years ago ;)

Yep. His system gets them injured and he doesn’t care.

Don’t most RBs get injured these days?

I forget if it was this year or last year but someone in here did a nice breakdown of Shanahan's scheme and how it is designed to get RBs up to speed very quickly increasing the likelihood of higher impact collisions. I am not sure if it was true, but it was interesting reading.

:lmao: I'm not apologizing for the 10-year-old comment. That was just cheeky. But my response to Irish eyes was not cool and most certainly not excellent.

Bro, he leads the league in rushing. Have you been watching him play?? He’s a very good RB and would start on a lot of teams

Again his prior 2 games he produced highest average per run. If I didn't practically have him in all my leagues I'd definitely try and trade for him.

Never said he wasn't good, just that he's hardly superstar despite the stats. No doubt he's got talent, but a big part of his success is likely the system that keeps churning out productive RBs. CMC is on a stratosphere of his own obviously.

I just don't see Shanny running CMC into the ground during the regular season. He probably wants him to get some touches but I highly doubt Mason just falls off the map.

I guess my opinion as a Mason owner in almost all fantasy leagues is... he would still get touches with CMC back.

This should have been the case last year as well imo. Not sure Shanny will pump the brakes on CMC once healthy, based on how he has handled it in the past.

what’s up with Mason’s contract situation. I’d love to see him be a lead back somewhere, should cmac be back in town next year

Plus, SF is struggling to win games this year, he is going to be motivated to use him as much as possible

RFA after this season. Maybe they'll let someone else pay him and move on to their next hidden gem.

Mason could move to Detroit and replace Montgomery as complement to Gibbs. An all Georgia Tech backfield.
Don’t you dare try moving Monty from my dear Lions. We’d like him to retire here, sir.

Edit: sorry the multi-quote thing is weird.

Wow I came here to dispute this but looking at new rules they really bumped up the compensation for RFA. Good for the players. A 2nd round tender would be about $5M and a Right of First Refusal tender over $3M. I think a $3M insurance policy is a no-brainer for them since they still have the QB on a rookie contract and another $2M would scare all other teams off with the 2nd round price tag attached. They currently project to $38M of cap space so no real urgency to skimp and that's a huge part of this offense, I would think they'd do all they could to stack the talent.

Detroit just extended Monty for 2 more years. They wont be looking for any RBs.

Steelers could be looking for a RB1 next year. And QB, and WR. :-)

So they got the full Monty?

He was in a non-contact jersey at practice yesterday. I think there is very little chance he plays this week.
I dunno, it’s def possible he’s out but I don’t see a reason to put practice hits on any degree of hurt shoulder whether he’s playing or not
Plus official practice starts on Wednesday, so they may not do practice hits anyway on Mondays. Tomorrow will obviously be more telling.

these two within 10 minutes of each other today...

Mason (shoulder) is practicing in a non-contact jersey Friday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Mason (shoulder) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.

would love to have him in my lineup , but not exactly with confidence.

I'll probably be starting either Bigsby or Tracy Jr. over him this weekend. Horrendous matchup and one good blow to his shoulder could set him back. Bad vibes. Hopefully it doesn't backfire on me.
