RB Jordan Mason, MIN (1 Viewer)

Seems like a lot of moving parts to try and nail down. We haven't even mentioned the Deebo factor in a while either.
I'm probably in the minority here but Deebo is a non factor to me.when evaluating their run game.

1) I think he'll run less
2) He's not their goal line runner
3) When Deebo started getting regular touches in week 10, Mitchell averaged over 25 touches per game. Wilson averaged 18+ touches in his four starts in that span.

I rewatched Mitchell’s highlights from last year and he certainly slowed down as the year went on. I don’t think he had 4.3 speed down the stretch. He is a good back but is he a product of this system or would he ball out anywhere?
Agreed that Mitchell seemed to slow down. But if you look at his highlights from the MIN and HOU games, you see a good combination of power and some speed. I think we're influenced by that 38 yard TD run in game 1 vs Detroit when he seemed really fast. He's a good value at his current RB ADP of low 20s. I think he's good RB in a good system. My biggest concern is how many TDs Lance will take away.

Good info here... didn't realize Deebo complimented those backs more than took away from them, according to your numbers.

I think it would be highly wishful thinking to pick up Mason and expect any sort of 2022 impact. In dynasty, he is the perfect stash as he costs nothing but has a glimmer of upside and can be churned if nothing seems forthcoming. Was late on to the party despite the glowing camp reports as I thought he was bound for the practice squad. Managed to get him in one league, where I also have TDP, so will be an interested observer to see how the roles play out barring any injuries. My guess is that Mason starts out as a game-day inactive, subject to special teams involvement.

Mitchell didn't start week 1
He sure did - the fantasy community that hitched their wagon to Sermon know that all too well.
I think Morstert went down correct?
Yeah actually he may have started amd went down and the big surprise was Mitchell taking the game day active over Sermon.
Yep then I claimed him off waivers and had fun debate with the Sermon owners for several weeks before they finally admitted defeat haha

I bought into the hype yesterday with my last pick to backstop Mitchell. But I am wondering if we're overthinking this a little, or if I'm overthinking it now.

I get that Mason made Sermon expendable, but is there any reason to think Mason has leaped Davis-Price in the pecking order? TDP also made Sermon expendable. He's built like a brick-#### house, has a pretty good college resume at a top program and has the draft capital. Shouldn't we, in this thread not the FF community as a whole, be valuing TDP over Mason?

Answer received I guess. It’s Mitchell vs Sermon all over agin.

TDP inactive, looks like Mason is the #3 this week.

Maybe get mason in there kyle instead of continually losing yards inside the 10
We need to evaluate SF offense with whatever asinine decision stroke’s Kyle’s ego.

Mason may pass the eye test for everyone, but Kyle probably gets no pleasure out of using a hammer RB when he can redeploy a WR at the position.

Right?!? I mean logic totally favors the notion that an UDFA rookie would be ready to carry the load in week one.

Obviously a coach who has been to a Super Bowl and NFC Championship game in the last three seasons has no clue about how to deploy his players.

What a tool.

The still shot of Michell's knee flexing is a painful one. Could just be a sprain or bruise, but ouch. I think Mason is going to see some run next week against Seattle. He'll be a waiver wire darling this week for sure.

How much do you look at Deebo's impact? And obviously QB Trey Lance's running ability as a way to sort of adapt without Elijah?

Shanny:

"Yeah, that's always an option, but you need to get that production from running backs too. I thought we got that production from Deebo in the game. I thought we got it from Trey in the game, so they did that there. And we have to make sure that we have the backs step it up too. And hopefully one of those guys or all those guys collectively can help with that production that we always count on Elijah for."

It will be Mason, mark my words!

Here’s a couple quotes from Shanny.

And what's your comfort level now with the guys you have behind him? RB Jeff Wilson Jr. and RB Jordan Mason and RB Ty Davis-Price?

"We've always been comfortable with Jeff just because of his experience and what he has done here. We know what we're going to get. The other two guys, they made our team for a reason. They're two talented players who we think can help us a lot running the ball, but they have to grow up fast. They're trying to compete and learn how to play better without the ball in their hand. With injuries, they're going to have more opportunities to get some carries, but they have to grow up and get this experience while on the run. So a lot of more pressure will be on those guys and we're going to have to pick it up as a group to help them out."

I think Shanny didn’t trust Mason yet because they weren’t planning on using him week 1. I think him and TDP are battling right now to see who can perform these assignments. He has already stated he believes they can be starting rbs on 1st and 2nd down. I believe Mason has decent receiving ability but just needs more work in blocking assignments.

You lost your top running back last year during Week One as well, what lessons, if any, do you take from that experience? And now without Elijah Mitchell for some time.

"That's why we've been drafting one every year too. I think our first year here with [former 49ers RB] Carlos Hyde was the only year that we've had where we didn't lose our starting running back. So I think this is the fifth year in a row and I think we've gone through at least four throughout a year and we're already at that again. So it's something that has happened to us in the past. And that's why you can never have too many of them. Sometimes it feels like we have a lot and very quickly, it now feels like you don't because those numbers end fast. So we hope to have better luck with that in the future, but hopefully we can hold down the fort here a little bit and when Elijah comes back, he's coming back to a better team and helping us make a run."

Shanny has already stated that last year scared him when he lost Morstert and then Mitchell. I think he just wants bodies in the room that he knows can run(Sermon couldn’t).

Shanny kind of throws Wilson under the bus here and is maybe a reason they are bringing in other backs. He says that Deebo and Lance stepped up but doesn’t say the same for Wilson. The part I bolded is my favorite part. It tells me he doesn’t care who it is and the best man will win. I still think it will be Mason and all he needs is an opportunity.

I’m not sure if Mason will be the one to emerge, but have a feeling a lot of people will ultimately regret spending a lot of FAAB money on Wilson.

whoever emerges, if they emerge, will still have to compete with Samuel, Aiyuk, and Lance for Carrie’s and rushing TDs.

it’s not a high value spot…..

Sounds like most rb situations besides Samuel. A starting RB on a good offense is worth a shot. As of now it looks like Wilson will get first shot. Ppl including myself in this thread think Wilson has looked bad the past year and last Sunday. He's worth a hold of you have the spot to see how the backfield plays out.

This is kinda where I'm at. Soooo many different players to get the ball there. This thinking led me to avoid Sermon last year, but that was a late 1st round pick, this was a FCFS guy before the season started. The cost of a roster spot, and if he blows up anytime in the next month, I'll trade him if I can

And is it sort of a competition this week to see which one of those guys performs better as to who's the number two going into the game?

"Yeah, for the most part, that's what it was last week to see. We knew it was just going to be special teams. This week we'll get a feel for him on these three days and then we'll go with the hot hand in the game."

Shanny says him not them here. Mason is gonna get a shot this week.

I wouldn’t try to dissect the words here, although I do think that Mason may get his chance if Wilson doesn’t come out running hot.

Really? You can’t tell he’s talking about Mason? You think he trusts him more than TDP on special teams but not on passing downs? Come on man?

I don’t speak Shanahanese.

Mitchell drafter here and this is what I did on waivers this week.

I took Wilson because nobody in my league has ever heard of Jordan Mason. Even if I wanted him I can just add him to the end of the bench Sunday Morning to back up Wilson.

I do though I was born in Shanahan.

My weaponized autism strikes again with another gem! Wilson mentions JP at the end here. JP is Jordan Ponchez Mason. He calls him rb2 then corrects himself because he realizes he shouldn’t have said it. Mason is clearly ahead of TDP and Shanny already said he’s going with the hot hand. It will be Mason!
