There are no excuses for what Hunt did. The woman was no physical threat to him. She was not armed. Yes, we have all done things we regret, particularly in our youth. And I have no doubt that if every minute of our lives were on video and released on the internet, we would all have things to try to explain. But many of you seem to think we have all shoved and kicked a woman, we just were lucky enough not to be caught on film. The fact that so many believe that is truly scary.
But that is irrelevant. One person getting away with a crime does not excuse another who is caught.
The Chiefs had no choice but to release Hunt. The only two possibilities are that the Chiefs are being truthful and Hunt lied to them about the incident, or the Chiefs are lying and Hunt told them the truth. But if it’s the latter, the Chiefs undoubtedly told him if any proof surfaced they would be forced to act. Either way, they had to release him.
So now Hunt is looking at a minimum 6 game suspension from the NFL, and most likely a full year followed by a review. Regardless of your feelings on shoving and kicking women, the NFL’s rules on the issue are very clear and Hunt obviously broke those rules.
Should he eventually get a second chance in the NFL? Maybe. If he is truly remorseful and does everything he can to prove it, maybe. But any team that takes a chance on him is in for a PR nightmare, even if it’s a couple of years down the road. If it were only a shove I think he could recover. But that kick most likely ended his NFL career.
