If the situation wasn't a mess there wouldn't be opportunity for us WW dredgers. Next man up would have been drafted in the later rounds.

I can’t imagine he’s more than a depth signing. Guy has looked washed for a while. Might also be a good mentor with the playbook for Steele.

And then week 2 in the offense he gets the start. All jokes aside I see the team going Perine/Steele mix with Hunt as emergency. I'd be surprised if Hunt is active this week but who knows.
I'll bet he couldn't score 9 td's on The Browns this year

KC brought in Hunt for a workout. KC is immediately signing him. Not even going to try out other FA RBs.
I think they deem that Hunt is in game shape. He will be active this Sunday and play starter snaps. Pacheco is not on IR officially yet. Once he does Hunt fills that spot on game day.
Reid has never thrown a rookie into a starting role. His main goal is to fit the pieces around Patrick Maholmes. Including protecting him on passing downs.
Hunt has familiarity with the system, an experienced veteran, an absolute passing down asset.

I picked him up for free yesterday and expect to get Steele off waivers. If Perine ends up being the alpha, then I'll learn to live in that reality.

They love this guy in KC. Mahomes and Reid. They didn't want to get rid of him, he was a dummy and got himself cut.
Should fit like a glove. I don't know if there's any juice left, but everyone around him will he cheering him on and it's the best fit for him. This is his last stop and he knows it too.

He's 29 now, though. And outside of his TDs last year with Cleveland, he had career lows across the board. He's on the decline. I doubt he was brought in for anything more than depth.
Now, if Steele proves he's not ready for the role, then maybe Hunt gets a shot. But he's no spring chicken.

On the flip side, ever since Hunt left they haven't thrown in a rookie RB into the starting role. Point being that their main strategy is to fit the pieces around Maholmes. Protect Maholmes. It makes sense to bring in Hunt who has been in their system. Is an established vet. Who knows how to block on passing downs. This is a football decision that makes sense. As much as we want it to be a fantasy football decision.

That is true. Still, you have to be skeptical that he wasn’t on a roster to start the year anywhere else.

I am team none of them. Price will be too high for all and it will be roulette all year. If you’re decimated at RB then get a piece I guess.

I'm out on Hunt and the KC backfield. It's going to revert to what we saw pre-Pacheco IMO. If I had to take one I'd take Steele.
The Browns didn't even want to resign Hunt and they knew Chubb wasn't going to be there. Dallas (presumably) passed on him for Dalvin. I just think this backfield goes back to a strong "avoid if possible"

I put a bid in on Hunt. Planned on it before the announcement that they'll sign him. Wish it wouldn't have been announced though. In all likelihood I will not be awarded him as I'm not willing to cough up 10% of my FA budget, which is probably what will need to be done to acquire his worn-down services.

I don't think he's anything more than depth. He'll be there just in case the rookie gags on his opportunity. Which is possible, of course. But I think it's Steele's job to lose. Reid trusts him. Got touches right away as a rookie. Got touches after fumbling last week and came back in after Pacheco's injury. I think he gets the chance to step up. But if he doesn't, Hunt is the break glass in case of emergency back.

The argument can be made Hunt knows as much of the playbook as Perine/Steele. He might not play this week but he could get a look next week. Also, keep in mind he was fighting a sports hernia in the past and since being unsigned he's rehabbed it and reportedly lost weight.
I'm not saying he's 2017 Kareem Hunt now, but I think he could be a guy in this rotation who could be productive if Steele can't take the opportunity,

I have been a huge Hunt Stan for years. Really thought he got screwed with the video reaction/timing compared to what he actually did. With that said, I was dying for Hunt to go back to KC or another better situation than the Browns for the last 3 years. He showed a few flashes last year but overall appeared to be a shell of himself, I'm betting on Steele for the dart throw between the 3 options.

I get what you're saying but I'd hope KC would've changed a majority of their playbook in the past 5 seasons... at the very least to accommodate for the loss of Hill and, ironically, Hunt (the 2018 version).

These kind of signings off the street are not in any way to find a "White Knight" to come in and take 15-20 carries a game and be a work horse...that's never gonna happen
Steele was UDFA but has been in camp now since about May? June-July-Aug and 2 weeks into the NFL season...3 as we approach Sunday
I don't know what Steele's role will be exactly but he better be able to pass protect when needed and pick up the blitz, if not he won't be on the field much except to run the ball.
Problem there is teams won't respect other types of plays when he's in the back field
Until he proves he can be a dual threat or do other things than run between the Tackles, limited ceiling
As far as running the ball near the goal line, Chiefs can just let Mahomes roll out and either tuck it and run or just flip it to Kelce/Rice/whoever

This is kind of my feelings here, likely a split backfield with Steele and Perine depending on the play and down and distance.
Now, if you want or need a hail marry play then it is Hunt. Do I expect much from a guy who was out of the league last week? No. But if there was a guy that might have a bit of juice in this offense I would go Hunt. Don't go overboard on FAAB or expectations as it could net you a big fat zero.
But if I can get Hunt for free in a deep league as a maybe there is something I would take a stab to see if he has anything left in the tank. I'm curious what type of shape he is in.
My honest feelings is I don't think Hunt amounts to anything but I want at least one lottery ticket just in case.

Wanted Steele, landed Hunt (for free). Intrigued by talk of hernia recovery and 9 TDs last year by Mr. Hunt. Luv me some Steele, but he is a rookie. Misstep in pass pro of Mahomie and he'll be right back to surfing pine. In that scenario, Hunt is lurking and I am sure Walrus would love to resurrect his old toy. Or maybe it'll be Perine that Reid annoints this year, or none of them at all when Pach returns. Lots of plausible paths here.

Here is the thing with Hunt, He might sit on the PR for this next game while they let Steele and Perine do their thing. Hunt may take a week or so to get up to speed with everything, even though he likely knows some of the offense from before.
If you picked up Hunt this week and he doesn't play I would still hold. Obviously each league is different with benches etc and if you are 3-0 or 0-3 and need to make moves.
I have ZERO expectations for Hunt but in my deeper leagues he's my lottery ticket I will check for the next week or 3. I'm willing to give this 2 weeks and if not then I don't mind dumping him since he didn't cost me anything.
I do expect Steele and Perine to get first cracks as they have been putting in the time and work this year so far.

Reading scouting reports & reviewing some of Steele's highlight tape, his change of direction isn't a strength, nor is speed or ball skills. Perhaps he's been coached-up? Watching him, he runs very upright which tends to negate the power that would otherwise be a top trait. With change of direction in the backfield by design and getting him downhill behind several double-team blocks up front, who knows? I didn't get any shares, but after reading some of the opinions here I've added Hunt in several leagues. The part about the team quickly turning to & deciding upon Hunt & what you added about being injured.
Here's what his latest note at NFL.com says:
"Hunt looked well removed from his prime during his time with Cleveland last season. While appearing in 15 games for the Browns in 2023, Hunt averaged career-low marks in yards per carry (3.0) and yards per reception (5.6). However, he was slowed by a core-muscle injury before undergoing surgery in January, so Kansas City may be banking on a better version of Hunt showing up now that he's ostensibly healthy."
He's got the same setup as Dalvin Cook.
I think the Chiefs have as much doubt as we do. The other guys were good in spots but can they be relied upon?
Not long ago, Pacheco would get 60ish on the ground and McKinnon would get 40ish thru the air. That's how they get their 100 yards.
Andy Reid in Philly didn't care about your fantasy team. He may be the guy that made that saying comical.
If you have to you have to. I'm not going to sit here and be like Foreman is your lottery ticket not Hunt or Perine or Steele.
I like Whittington as this week's lottery ticket. The Rams don't but I do. I mean did he even play the first two weeks? I think some of the other subs are typical journerymen and he's the guy that can get 8 slot catches and Stafford's attention.
Foreman having more work than Ford meant little to me other than they can't wait for Chubb soon. Aha but news came out Chubb's return is not week four but more like week eight and faaaa.
My thinking- I went back to the mess in KC and looking at Cleveland again and...I went with Braelon Allen. Skip all of that mess. Allen looked good against a tough D, Hall needs a good backup and I won't get so many headaches.
I don't see why Steele comes out on GL plays so if I had to pick it would be him.
He's a tough sonofagun. He's got some Bam Morris or Alstott to him. (He's fun!) It doesn't necessarily matter if people hit him as some bounce off. You're going to have to chunk this scouting report and do the old eye test to judge him

He's always looked like that. Just how he runs. He's effective and gets his yards. He can pass block well and doesn't make many mistakes.
Coaches like him and they trust him.
Not sure why this surprises so many people. Speed is one small part of being an RB.
Hunt might also look 58 but he likely has better vision than Steele and probably a better RB, even at 58. Now Steele might get the first crack at things so hopefully he takes advantage of the opportunity.
