Picked this guy up for free and the Steele owner offered my a 2025 3rd. The guy has a solid roster when his team is healty, but also all of these guys are key injuries(Only startable QB is Daniel Jones, Tua, Kupp, CMC, Tyreek, Mostert, starting TE is Freirmuth) or will be less effective b/c of injuries to their QB - so the pick could be a high 3, seems like a no brainer to take this deal right? I have good enough RB depth on this team and am also dying to acquire another WR2/WR3 (lost Puka) so part of me wants to hold in case he somehow pops off to try to get a WR, the other part of me believes he's toast and I should take the offer while its out there.

And yes he seems like a super odd hire. Not sure the line of thinking: "So Todd, you were a tall lean WR with good speed who played a pretty much finesse game and underwhelmed. We think you'd make a great RB coach"

For the record I don't know if Pinkston is not qualified, I don't question Andy Rieds decision making very often, just an odd resume/hire.

But if he's not up to the task then I think that would be Steele instead of two vets thought it's at least possible under the scenario that Pinkston is not qualifed that it makes the process of integrating two players recently signed take longer and that's where Steele would have a leg up right now.

No, it's often vanilla-beaned. But the rule by which they play by is no follow up.. to their own snowballs. Nothing prevents any coach from complete deflection. Could've just as easily said: "Oh Kareem, glad you ask. He's an old pro, he knows how to put the uniform on! He's real excited to be here." I wouldn't believe that Hunt is anywhere near his prime but I do think we're past the; he's washed phase.

You did point out a good nuance in coachspeak, but I think that went out the window a bit ago. McVay will just look you stone cold in the face and lie. So will Reid.

But that does not mean that Hunt is definitely washed. It just means we can't really infer anything from Todd Pinkston's coachspeak.

I've read that his dad was a coach. But the counter here is that his comment is junk because if the truth is contrary, there's no way he can effectively convey that to us. Which is false imo. For owners, Steele has some shortcomings, but if he knocks it out of the park this week, it's over. If he doesn't & they lose, then what?

What I was getting at is you said they just tossed him aside. The team had good reasons for moving on from him at the time. What went down was serious and he seemed to not take responsibility for it. He's actually lucky he was still able to play football. It also seems like Andy is willing to give him a second shot.

Excellent lottery ticket for folks who got him off WW. RB1 upside (imo unlikely), but even RB2/flex production would be a massive early-season win due to positional scarcity. Or if he has even one single huge game, could be quick turnaround trade bait to shore up other positions.

Kind of let this offer stay out there and so did he. So I accepted it today. Guy's team is a hot pile of trash burning right now, so hopefully this turns out to be a higher 3.

I agree with you. And remember, they still need depth in case more RBs get hurt. So with CEH potentially returning and Hunt, they have enough to get by. If he still had it, it wouldn't have taken a major injury to get him off the street and onto a roster. He wasn't even on a practice squad, and Chubb is on IR. Now, no KC RB will face a stacked box so he could be productive if given the role. I just don't think he'll be given the role without even more injuries.

I have a sort of working theory and that working theory is that Andy Reid is going to use whoever is on the field when the offense is effective and will attribute that success, in part, to the back in the backfield. So it's entirely possible (to me) that Hunt is kind of washed but still wins the job through pass protection and knowing where to be in the offense for dump offs and check downs. If you take this line of thought seriously or find it compelling, then it might not take an injury for him to win the job.

I think he's washed, personally, but I'll bet he runs a 4.75 at this point in his career and he's a bull. I don't see much separating (including CEH) all of these sort of plodding backs that KC has right now. Reid cutting Ingram shows that they're not valuing speed so what do I know?

But the whole efficient offense determining who plays in the backfield isn't so ridiculous; or it is, and it's just a thought I had.
