RB Saquon Barkley, PHI (2 Viewers)

Just a note for those singing the Barkley praise: OL clearing huge holes for him to run basically straight to goal line. Not a lot of juking and pivoting for him to do. Those two runs were straight shots IIRC. Still as an owner I am pleased with the out comes. He has elite moves and vision but didn't need them last night. This marriage has been perfect so far. Only complaint would be Jalen stealing half his TD's.

The vision and juke and speed combo on his second TD can’t be done by many RBs in the league.

Acting like he’s just running straight through an open hole isn’t giving him enough credit.

Yeah, I agree. Of course the fact the Eagles are providing so much more supporting cast has been a big contributor to Saquon's best season. But, I think after the whole backwards hurdle thing we can put to bed the notion that his success isn't primarily driven by Saquon and his own abilities.

When he signed I was worried about Hurts vulturing TD's (which is still a minor issue) but he's more than made up for it in attempts, yards and catches.

It's more than a minor issue. I have lost games because Saquon is missing out on those TD's. He has been tackled quite a few times inside the one and those extra TD's would be quite a bit more valuable.

He has been great without those 1 yd TD's but he would be much better with them.

This guy would be pushing LTs TD record if he got a few of those 9 1-yard plunges that Hurts has (pretty sure it was 9 but too lazy to look it up).

Maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration. He'd be in range if he got most(6-8) of those 1 yard plunges since that would give him 18-20 at this point.

You're not wrong. Without looking, I'm going to guess Drew Brees had less than 2 rushing touchdowns the year LT set the record. Hurts already has double digit touchdowns and he still gets to face the Giants, Cowboys, Commanders and Panthers who rank 28, 29 30 and 32 vs the run, I think he has a real true shot of resetting both yardage records, but yeah, won't be sniffing the TD one...

I bet a lot never even watched that much.

the Reality is he was performing to a reasonable level behind what may have been the worst line in the NFL for the last 3 years. (give or take)

now running behind a good line, you can definitely see the difference
Even people watching can be tricked. Watching a guy have to dodge tackles before he gets up to speed can make them look less explosive.
of course. but the reality is if a RB has to break a tackle or evade a defender in the backfield, his expected yards on that play go way down. and for a decent portion of his career in New York there was a good portion of the line there that were literally not much better than a turnstile.

the fact he was able to put up decent numbers in that situation is a testament to his skill as a runner and his recent production is a statement on how good he actually is and how bad the Giants line actually was.

New York Giants SMDH

Saquon was the best RB I've ever seen in college. Sorry Barry fans, I watched him play too. I'm not trying to create an argument, Barry's ability, stats and resume speak for themselves. I mean, 37 TDs in a season? It's kind of hard to believe, but it happened. He was inarguably one of the best to ever set foot on the field and I have no problem with anyone calling him the best.

I'm just so happy Saquon's finally getting a chance to show what he can do in the NFL. This season is becoming MVP worthy even if Lamar will probably (and this time, deservedly) win another.

My absolute favorite Penn State player of all time (I'm a PSU alum). I'm also an Eagles fan. So it was very painful seeing him in a Giants uni for multiple reasons. This season is such a dream come true from a fan standpoint.

He has my vote as MVP, but breaking a record set in 16 games by Dickerson deserves an * beside it.

Different era with no such thing as bye weeks to rest up as well.

Do you put an asterisk on Dickerson's record season? He put up 131.6 rush yards/game

OJ broke 2,000 yards rushing (2,003) in a 14 game season putting up an average of 143.1 yards/game.

That stat that had Barkley in the top 4 of NFL rushers if you just used his second half rushing totals is crazy. He's going to need to break the all time record to have a shot at MVP, but he's so worthy of it.

just heard he's averaging over 7 yds/carry in the 4th quarter
Between Barkley's talent/power and Philly's OL just imposing their will all game on opponents, I guess it's not too surprising. And to think the OL may have gotten even better despite the loss of Kelce.

Not to take anything away from Barkley, he obviously is playing great, but the #3 runner in the NFL after Barkley and Henry, is Barkley BEFORE contact. Eagles OL is on fire run blocking.

Jordan Mailata is as good an OL as there is in the NFL, right there with Trent Williams or Penei Sewell. He doesn't get near enough credit, and Lane Johnson has never gotten the credit he deserves.

Big reason why Lions/Eagles are top-2 teams is OL.

Back in May I posted this:

Barkley 2023: 12 broken tackles (14 games)

CMC 2023: 13 broken tackles (16 games)

You want to know a huge difference between the two RBs.

CMC 2023: 877 yards before contact (3.2 yards/attempt).

Barkley 2023: 546 yards before contact (2.2 yards/attempt)

For comparison sake, D'Andre Swift had 664 yards before contact (2.9 yards/attempt)

Just playing on the Eagles should give Barkley an extra 100-150 yards before he's even touched.

He's blown way past the yards before contact I thought he would get. He already has 1036. He's been way better than I thought, and I thought he was going to run for 1600 yards.

I don't like this stat. Why should you be punished for juking someone (or backwards hurdling them) rather than running them over.

This was 70 yards before contact but Joe Mixon would have gained 14 yards on the play with 4 yards after contact.

Would be a real interesting decision/storyline if he was within the rushing yard record… but the Eagles had clenched the 1 seed and the game was meaningless.
Are you a talk radio programmer? That's all they're yapping about today.

Sirianni is aware of records. Barkely doesn't care. I'd say he probably sits if the Eagles have their seed clinched.

Barkley's health and availability for the playoffs trumps everything. But man, oh man do I want to see him further cement Joe Schoen's fate.

Yeah I almost added to my comment. I remember from an early game (maybe even the Giants game) he was mic’d up (Barkely) … and had 176 yards rushing, and his previous personal best was 189 rushing yards. And coach asked him he wanted to get it, and he said something like “nah I’m good, let the young guys get some experience”.

And yes, I’m correct… it was the giants game.

I don't regularly participate in redraft leagues. Decided to try the FBG Bowl this year. Randomly was given the 11th pick.

Barkley landed in my lap at 1.11. Derrick Henry at 2.02 was just as sweet.
I’m in a new keeper league and had pick number 10 (ten teams). Snagged Barkley and Henry. I actually have regrets that I took Barkley (instead of Henry) with 1.10. Now I lose my first round pick next year when I keep Barkley. I wasn’t thinking much about it at the time.

This is extremely unlikely that we will be 2 games up on Detroit. So that won't happen.

Also, 1 seeds don't always rest starters that week. That would mean there are 3 weeks between meaningful games.
