Yeah some have come back for sure. To each their own. The league I traded him got a 1st and 2nd so I feel good about that part.

Was ETN’s a complete tear of the Lisfranc? I’m googling around and can’t find that. It says it was a “significant tear that required surgery.”

Anyway, I think the important thing to focus on at this point is that it appears he’s made as close to a full recovery as anyone. 

Now that he’s making cuts and showing explosive speed, it’s probably time to stop wondering if he can make a recovery and start focusing more on what he can do for FF owners.

I’m pretty optimistic at this point. He seems wildly underrated by ADP. Have to believe the buy-low window is closing fast. 

I invested Pittman+Fuller for him this offseason, and if reports are accurate that could be a bargain.

Just like his stock was probably a little high pre injury last year, this year he could be a bargain. A coaching staff that can't help but be better than that Urban Blight,  combined with his QB in year two. In all those games where they are behind,  how many dump off passes is he going to get?

Yeah honestly, not sure, now i'm seeing dislocation in all the reports. We shall see how it goes.

Plus Robinson reportedly a long ways off on his own recovery - ETN might not be a true workhorse back, but I can see a path to 250 touches, assuming he's fully healthy. 

No player is without risk, especially one coming off of a significant injury. But as you said, Pederson has to be a better coach than Urban, and ETN is a special talent - on a team that is in need of playmakers. And while they've addressed some of the holes on defense, I agree they'll potentially be dumping off a lot in garbage time. 

 
Let’s also remember medicine is always improving. The sample size of NFL players with this injury and the level of care ETN got is small. Even smaller if you start slicing it up by position. All signs here point to a full recovery for one of the most accomplished and explosive players to come out of college in years.

 
Buyer beware in PPR leagues...insiders are saying that the Jags coaches want James Robinson to be the third down back due to Etienne's inability to passblock.  

Doesn't mean Etienne can't deliver at ADP, but it does cap his upside in PPR IMHO.

I’m not doubting the report but that’s ironic,  in that all reports were that Meyer drafted ETN to be a passing game weapon.
 

Obviously I trust Pederson way more than Meyer though.

It's true, Etienne has pass blocking deficiencies.  They are going to move Etienne around the field though, to take advantage of his pass catching prowess...but I don't believe that would offset not playing 3rd downs.

I don’t see why he wouldn’t play 3rd downs. Once both Robinson & ETN are healthy they might well run 2 back sets. They might also have ETN split wide out of the backfield.  I haven’t seen anything from JAX coaches to suggest he’d be taken off the field on 3rd down - to the contrary they’ve been talking up his receiving prowess.

I'm just saying that players recovering from Lisfranc surgery usually don't perform well their first year back.  It's not like I'm reaching out on a limb here.

Even if what the insiders are speculating is true, if Etienne is all that, they’ll get the ball in his hands enough.

But he’s recovered

you keep making a generalization about “players”, but we’re talking about 1 specific player who has reportedly 100% recovered his burst & speed.

Every report, including the one linked above talks about his speed.

At some point ya need to talk about the tree instead of the forest. I know often players don’t recover fully from lisfranc - but ETN seems to have done so. 

I guess I don’t get why you continue to talk about ETN in this generic way, as if he’s still part of the “they” who typically don’t recover. Clearly he’s beaten the odds.

I’m not even sure what insiders he’s referring to - I just spent 20 mins googling & found nothing from Jags saying this.

Sounds a bit like it’s spun out of whole cloth.

Besides the fact that Robinson will likely not be starting the season in the backfield, and will likely be eased in when he does, creating a monster opportunity for ETN.  Seems like we’ll know right out of the gate if he can pass protect, because he’s probably gonna get feature back touches. 

One thing’s sure - if Robinson can make a full recovery, they’re potentially gonna be one of the best tandems in the NFL. Robinson as a traditional type & ETN like a Kamara.

Hint:  Check out the "Fantasy Points Podcast" Jaguars "Franchise Focus"...it came out yesterday.

And don't imply people are lying on this messageboard....or at least do your homework before doing whatever you did in this thread. (I've seen you do it in other threads too)  You will scare away the people that actually know what they are talking about.

i find podcasts as credible as people on discussion forums at times. 

I don’t find the statement you shared about ETN to be credible. Iit contradicts things I’ve read from Jaguars coaching & beat guys when talking about ETN. 

When someone warns everyone about a player, I’d like a little more concrete evidence. Your absolutist comments about him coming off the field on 3rd down seemed hyperbolic.

Getting back to Jacksonville football, the old adage that great coaching can bring success to marginal talent is not just an Urban legend.  Most pundits believe that Pederson's coaching will have a positive effect on Trevor Lawrence.  The new coaching staff may also be able to improve the pass blocking of the running backs.  In my opinion the Jags are going to see a nice bump in fantasy production.

 
Lisfranc is weird, some guys' recovery takes forever, there can be complications. 

But all I have heard is that he's full speed. 

And he has volume potential few others have. He's a back that catches the ball on a team with a bad WR corps. I'm not really thinking much deeper than that.

The video with him & other RBs, he looks crazy agile and explosive. Like he never had a foot injury.

I would love this to be true. I’m not sure Pederson is a QB whisperer. His track record is a bit spotty. 

i am sure he’s a monumental upgrade from Meyer though. That’s not the highest of bars, but I’m excited to see him with a fresh start. He has some talent there.

No question about it.   The O Line is a concern, but they have enough pieces to be competitive.

 
I am not saying he is totally out of the woods or that there can't be soreness, fatigue or a loss of confidence once there is contact. However, just look at the video I posted above. For where you want a RB to be at at this point in the year, Etienne is there. He's training with other NFL RBs who aren't recovering from major injuries and IMO he looks quicker on his feet and more explosive in his stop-start than them.

Robinson needs to clear the hurdle of recovering before I worry about him stealing 3rd down reps from Etienne over pass blocking.

Agreed, but I wouldn't be surprised if another RB steps in for 3rd down duties in the meantime.

Maybe but I really am not worried about Etienne losing pass blocking opportunities. If he is as good as his profile and college career suggested, Lawrence and the staff are going to want him getting the ball in space.

It’s always fascinating to see high level athletes doing agility drills like this.

Gordon runs much more upright than I’d thought. 

ETN looks extremely balanced. His footwork is crazy quick. He slithers through the barrels.

Agreed. His stop start on the last one seems so much quicker than everyone else. He just seems really under control, able hesitate and cut so fluidly.

As long as that top end speed is in fact intact, he’s a guy who can break it to the house on any play. Being able to cut like that will get him through the holes to do it.

I don't disagree with that.  I guess I was just surprised to learn about his pass blocking deficiencies...I thought he profiled as a 3 down back.   Maybe he is able to improve that part of his game and he stays on the field all 3 downs.

He did profile as a 3 down back, but he’s used a ton in the receiving game so why would he be pass blocking?  He’s a primary target - I expect they’ll chip with a TE or another back. I just don’t see why they’d take one of their best receivers off the field as you suggested earlier.

That may be true.  If I'm Pederson I want him on the field as much as possible, but not at the risk of my franchise QB.

Fantasy Pros has him as RB23 and overall at 48 for .5 PPR. I would guess 5 weeks from now he’s more like RB15 and going around pick 30.

I agree, 2nd seems too early. He would have to look really spectacular to get there in combination with some other players ranked just above him being hurt or struggling in camp/preseason.

I’m not too worried about pass blocking yet. I remember CMC and Hunt were 2 of the worst pass blocking backs their rookie years. I also think I heard Jonathon Taylor was also graded really low by PFF last year.

I believe Lawrence lead the league in dump offs last year. Now he has his buddy from College to throw to.
