Watched "The Aristocrats" yesterday. Filthy, hilarious stuff. Bob Saget is one twisted mofo, and there's several hilarious versions of the joke, including a mime doing it on the street.

We watched Kicking and Screaming yesterday. I gotta be honest, I laughed a few times. I'm not a huge Will Ferrell fan, but I thought this was a pretty good role for him. I could have done without the self destruction route where he spirals out of control, but prior to that, it was a funny. Robert Duvall is one of my favorite actors and he was solid here.
There's a much, much better Kicking and Screaming movie from the 1990s. I highly recommend checking it out.

I borrowed the Family Guy Stewie Movie from a friend. I had read some bad reviews saying it's just 4 bad episodes thrown together but I liked it.Worth renting for any fan of Family Guy.

I've seen it! Olivia D'Abo....

The Chumscrubber - video release, advertised as a black comedy.  Had a good story, good cast (Glenn Close, William Fichtner, Ralph Fiennes, John Heard, Lauren Holly, Carrie-Ann Moss, Rory Culkin), good acting, good production value, but wasn't funny at all.  This could have been a good classic if the script had more/some humor in it.
Great movie. I didn't go into it expecting comedy though, just some good social commentary.. and it delivered. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoyed American Beauty and/or Donnie Darko.

 Hell yeah.Question though. I rented it from Blockbuster and it had all the swearing bleeped out. I assume the DVD in the store isnt censored...I mean, whats the point of putting it on DVD is you cant have a little cussin? Was it bleeped on the copy you watched?

march of the penguins.  very inspiring especially for parents.  loved it.
This movie was a bore. Without Morgan Freeman's voice over I doubt it would have garnered the attention it did. They could have edited the movie down to 15 minutes and you would not have missed anything.
disagree. do u usually enjoy documentaries?
I don't watch too many docs but I normally enjoy them. Capturing the Friedmans was riveting.

I think you have to select Unrated in the menu.

Took a couple FBG recommends, and watched "Audition". The 1st hour and 15 minutes were enjoyable enough to keep my interest, but that last 15 minutes  :X

I'm glad I saw this, thanks FFA
Finally saw Johnny Dangerously..... very good movie.......

hey Smoovy, it's funny that you just posted. I was just going to write about how I started watching Samurai Champaloo (I'm a fan of Cowboy Bebop) this w/e and I noticed your profile pic. I'm only on disc 2, but so far it's a fun show. The beginning credits are pretty sweet. If you liked 'Audition', you might want to check out stuff like "Suicide Club" or other Miike films, like "Ichi the Killer", "Visitor Q" or "Dead or Alive". Of course being a Miike film there will be a few scenes that are not for those that are sensitive to uncomfortable situations.

I also started watching uh...Veronica Mars. Yeah, someone recommended it to me and I felt like I needed a change of pace from all the other stuff that I've watched. It's interesting and actually not that bad, but for now I feel like it's not my kind of show, go figure.
Thanks for the recommendations. I've added all four movies to my Blockbuster Queue. I have 97 movies in the queue right now, so it may be a while before I get around to them. I've heard of "Ichi the Killer", but have never gotten around to seeing it. I moved this one up, so I may get around to seeing it in the next week or two. One of my favorite horror movies, is "The Eye".

I think I probably mentioned it earlier, but I have to keep pimping OldBoy. Best movie I have seen in a couple of years, easy.

OldBoy is a sweet movie. I usually am pretty good at spotting the hook but this one got me. I thought the one long cut of the fight scene between him and those underlings after he ripped the teeth out of the boss with a hammer was excellent. There was an update somewhere about the Americanized remake of the film. It sounds like the producer/director is fighting tooth and nail to keep it perfectly in line with the original. Tom Jane was rumored to be in it.... but now I hear it might be Nick Cage.... :X

CADENCE  As far as dramas go, this is one of the best I have seen. It is a terrific coming of age story involving tragedy, team work, and the tough choices morality can make a person face. The story is excellent (I could write a lot more, but I try not to give to much away). The main character is Franklin Bean, an Army Private. Pvt. Bean is sentenced to 90 days in the stockade after hearing the news that his father died, getting unauthorized tattoos, going on a drinking binge and hitting an MP. In the stockade, Pvt. Bean's (who is white) "roommates" are 5 black prisoners. Pvt. Bean does not fit in, not because of his fellow prison mates, but because he does not want to belong. The stockade is overseen by Sgt. Otis McKinney, a racist disciplinarian who is constantly trying to get Bean on "his team". Despite Bean's desire to be alone, Bean does pick a side. The film ends in tragedy, and Pvt. Bean is faced with the gut wrenching decision between what is right and what is right. While the scene I am referring to is short, I think it was one of the most powerful movie scenes showing a young person trying to make a decision where both alternatives seem to be the right thing to do, and the path he chooses has drastically different outcomes.I never even heard of this movie in the theaters. However, I feel this is one of the greatest "coming of age" stories I have ever seen. I think this is one of the best "unknown" movies I have ever seen. The screenplay writing is absolutely brilliant, though I will admit I had to watch the movie a couple of times before I saw the movie as more than a story about some guy in a military prison. This is definitely not a happy movie. I don't think this is the type of movie I pop in the DVD player and cuddle with a date on the couch. I would classify the movie as a sad drama. I think this movie is definitely a must see!

Tom Jane = Box Office PoisonI'd love to see someone mainstream given a chance with the material, and give it a potential wider audience. Ten years ago Bruce Willis would have been perfect.

The wrong actor would just destroy it though (yes, I'm looking at you Tom Cruise). Or maybe put it in the hands of a good actor like PS Hoffman and see if it took off.

If I was to chose the actor to play the roll I would go with someone of the wall and not Hollywood pretty. Remember the main character in the original was kind of a schmuck. Also the guy doesn't have to have the washboard abs, Bruce Lee body since much of the fighting is back alley brawl type stuff..... Michael Chiklis could do it.... but for this one I'm looking for grit and reality... almost like a snuff film.....

Chiklis is an inspired choice. I just don't know if he could pull off the maniacally confused and broken down dude in the second act. I thought of Lawrence Fishburne at first, but I dismissed him for that reason. It would have to be someone that's believable as a semi-tough guy...but someone with a ton of insecurity brooding under the surface. It would also have to be someone that could believeably play a 15 year age range. Very tough role when you think about it. It's funny to think of some major players in that role that would just kill it (Pitt, Stallone, Clooney, Hanks, Cruise, Keanu).

Watched the New Battlestar Galactica miniseries last night.Holy crap was I impressed. They do a great job of carrying that ominous feeling throughout the entire show.Is the series just as good? I've heard it is.

Son of War-   Flight Plan-  Unleashed- Dark Water- (although John C. Murray played a good part of the bs land lord Mr. Murray)

Unleashed-
Really? I have this coming up in my queue....should I take it off?
Guy kidnaps Jet Lee and trains him like a dog. He then is taken in by Morgan Freeman and some 20 something yo girl that is trying to play a 14 yo. He learns to play the piano. The figh scenes are not even that good. I would take it off if I were you.

Was okay. Two scenes in particular were really good though, IMO. The beginning scene where he takes out a room full of like 30 guys was great, and then the battle with that guy in white that turns into close quarters fighting in a bathroom was really good.

I saw Mr. & Mrs. Smith this weekend.

Over the top, but in a fun, tounge-in-cheek sort of way....with some funny moments. Brad and Angelina had some great chemistry.

I really liked it.

Saw Bewitched last night. It was decent. Worth the rental, but probably won't own it.
man, i thought Bewitched sucked. dunno if it's worth even the rental.as for Unleashed, I thought it was okay, but that's compared to all the other bad stuff Jet Li has done in the States, and I was in a mood for an action flick. I enjoyed the fight scenes, but man, my girlfriend really loathed this movie...she still uses it as leverage every now and then. It's why I had to watch "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" in the theater...(which, strangely enough, is actually not that bad of a movie.). I still hear about how awful this movie is from her from time to time.

Serenity - great sci-fi film
I almost rented this the other night.Do I have to watch the TV show first to understand it?
No, it requires no knowledge of the show. Although you may enjoy the movie more if you watch the show.
Never heard of Serenity. What kind of sci-fi are we talking about here? More along the lines of 2001/10, Aliens or somewhere in between?

Somewhere in between. It's been described as Star Wars if Han Solo was the central character instead of Luke.

I'm sure this is true. I didn't enjoy the show as much as I should have because I always felt I was missing something. I enjoyed the Battlestar Galactica miniseires more than I did Serenity.

I just watched two movies, of which I know at least one has been mentioned in this thread:

1-The Notebook. Now that football is over, you can kinda guess who has control of the remote on the weekends. Had to struggle my way through this one. Was a very forgettable movie, not the worst ever, but I'll not be watching this one again.

2-Upside of Anger. Again, not really my choice on this one, but as I was watching this out of one eye while playing poker, I became interested in it. Actually watched most of this one and was pleasantly surprised. Not necessarily going to watch it again, but it was entertaining. Costner was good, Allen was very good and everything just made for an enjoyable waste of 2 hours.

I thought The Forgotten with Julianne Moore was pretty good.
Think again. :) Julianne Moore is superhot but even she can't save this film. The concept was very neat but the writing was horrible.

Why? What was wrong with it?And the scene where they get t-boned in the car by those gub'ment agents was a perspective I've never seen before. I nearly wet myself it was so shocking.

The Constant Gardener: Pretty good. Amazingly well-shot, but I didn't think anything really happened in the last hour. You basically knew how the plot was going to unfold, save for a few details, but there were no twists at all. Good acting, all around, though.

I saw MirrorMask this weekend. Difficult to convey what I thought about it. I liked it, but not enough to burn it, if that makes sense. Plus, I really like Neil Gaiman, from my years of reading Sandman, so I am a bit biased. CGI was well done. Very beautiful movie. Was a little too fairy taleish for most, though, I do believe.
