Just saw "Enron: the smartest guys in the room" and was underwhelmed. The story itself is more powerful than anything any of those Tom Clancy clones can put together, but the movie was boring. Skilling, Lay, Fastow and a number of other white guys ruined thousands of lives!!! This movie should make you furious, but all it does is make you say "man, that (incident) sure sucked".

I've seen Bill Curtis A&E specials that had me more emotional.

I thought The Forgotten with Julianne Moore was pretty good.
Think again. :) Julianne Moore is superhot but even she can't save this film. The concept was very neat but the writing was horrible.
Why? What was wrong with it?And the scene where they get t-boned in the car by those gub'ment agents was a perspective I've never seen before. I nearly wet myself it was so shocking.
I found the film to be totally unbeliveable - in a bad way; I can't be more specific than that because I would be spoiling the movie.PS: and to make matters worse I bought it. :hot:
A little late but I agree on it being unbeliveable..The Ending is horrible, however I did like the alternate ending much better than the theatrical release...

Watched Crash tonight.

Very good movie. I'd recommend it. A few very intense scenes.

A little uneven at times, I think it's tough to pull off with such a large cast.

But definately worth checking out.

Watched Spider Forest last night and thought it was OK but very confusing.

It is a Korean film with english subtitles -very good camera work with the use of color and solid film making but the story needs some explaining.

Cellular w/Kim Basinger

Pretty standard but not terrible at all.

KB has gotten OLD. :sadbanana: I always thought she was gorgeous as Vicki Vale in the original Batman.

I saw it in the theater, what was the alternate ending?

Went to the movies on Sunday and saw "Running Scared". Saw the matinee and didn't feel cheated. Will make an excellent rental.

It's one of those 'coincidence' movies, where stuff happens at just the right time to move the plot along...and guys somehow in all of New Jersey happen to be at the same place at the same time.

Borrows liberally from Tarantino and was never boring.

I agree - horrible - but the alternate ending was at least somewhat interesting/entertaining.

I've seen a few lately...

Hustle & Flow was very good. The best of what I've seen the last month.

Two for Money - Rented this superbowl weekend hoping to get jacked up on wagering. Meh...I really hate movies that deal with football b/c they have to use bogus teams to match with real cities. So when you see KC and NY matching up on TV, they look nothing like the real deal. I know the NFL controls that, but still. Just don't show me anything if I can't have the real macoy. The movie was full of holes and flat dumb at times, but the gambling alone kept me going.

Elizabethtown - Well, I really really wanted to like this movie and I tried very hard to stay awake, but towards the end, the movie put me into a coma the likes Nyquil would be jealous of. I like Kirstin Dunst (sp?) and want to make babies with her, but I wanted her character to die a quick death immediately. SLOW and BORING are the optimal words here, but not a dumb movie, nor was it painful to watch as some romantic comedies.

Finally saw "Napoleon Dynamite" last night.

It had a few chuckle moments, but was otherwise a yawner.

For some reason, Paycheck with Ben Affleck made it to the top of my Netflix queue.

All in all pretty standard. Nice premise that just misses the mark a bit for some reason. Strange too, considering it's directed by John Woo.

I normally hate Affleck, but he wasn't terrible in this movie.

It would have done better Box Office with a different title.

Just watched Thumbsucker.

I thought this was a pretty good movie. It was like if Garden State was set in high school, instead of 10 years later. I don't think it was as good as Garden State, but it reminded me of it.

Vincent D'Onoforio did a very good job.

Saw "Ultraviolet" this weekend and it was about what you'd expect. Jovavich is really good (and looks better than ever), but is essentially playing her Resident Evil character Alice.

The movie seemed very disjointed though. It was like they had all these cool action sequences in mind and then had difficulty putting a story around them.

The action sequences are first-rate and worth seeing on the big screen for a matinee price.

(plot lovers look elsewhere...you will be severely disappointed)

I also saw "Without a paddle" on DVD and it's wretched. I thought my DVD player was broken, as these noises were coming from it...but it was actually the plot of the movie grinding away. Just a horrible mistake of a movie, and a waste of anyones time.

Saw this on Showtime a few weeks ago. I agree. It was terrible.

I am sure this is a Honda

RENT - 525,600 hairs pulled from my head from having to sit though this movie.

Did it have a point and a plot that I missed? The theme; aids, junkies and NY ... seems so .... 1980ish.

It was so long (or at least it seemed so long) I had to watch it in 10, 30 minute segments becuase I couldn't deal with longer 'sitins'.

Ice Harvest...great cast, but really kinda slow. Ending was decent.

Constant Gardner...pretty good movie. Worth a rental, for sure.

For those into documentaries and particular political in nature I recommend the Weather Underground, which is about radical activists in the 1970s.

Couple movies I downloaded:

London - odd movie that mainly takes place in the bathroom with people doing coke all night. About a girl named London not the city and has a nice cameo by Dane Cook.

House of 9 - Saw-ish horror film about random people trapped in a house. Uneven but interesting and had a cool ending. Dennis Hopper is in it but his Irish accent was annoying.

Constant Gardner...pretty good movie. Worth a rental, for sure.
Holy cow was this a bad movie. Horrible.
anyone that liked city of god - this is the same directorgood stuff
City of God -- Constant Gardener --  :X
I really liked Constant Gardner. Slow at times, but enjoyable. It's one of those movies that I'll never watch again, but am very glad to have seen. What didn't you like about it?

Just watched Jarhead last night.

I don't know if I would watch it again, but I thought it was fairly good. If you like your war movies with a lot of action and #### blowing up, definately stay away. Reminded me of a poor-man's Full Metal Jacket.

L.A. Confidential = all time K.B. peak

Watched "Waiting" last night.

Pretty funny.

Ahhh! The GOAT!
Saw this the other night and thought it was great. Of course, I waited tables, and some stuff in that movie came STRAIGHT out of my life (except when I told a table that if that was their tip, they probably needed the money more than me, I got fired).

Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal were awesome in this!

I have read the book and it was good; does the movie follow the book?

Ice Harvest=

Good cast, some good humor, setting in a strip club.

The ending really sucked. It took the obvious turn in any movie where 2 people are trying to rob something together. Everyone plans on screwing the other guy.

Has anyone seen Skeleton Key? w/ Kate Hudson?

For those of you who like movies in a corporate setting based on a true story, I highly recommend Barbarians at the Gate. It's an older movie at this point (probably about 10 to 15 years old) and it's about the takeover of RJR Nabisco. KKR used to be a client of mine (in my previous career), so this movie kind of hit home for me, but I think it is a good one either way.

old boy... strange but excellent korean movie... sort of a cross between memento, pulp fiction & count of monte cristo.
I tried to watch old Boy last night but quit watching at the 45 minute mark; I did not like it at all.

I saw Skeleton Key about a month ago and it was ok - nice ending but the writing could have been better.

I won't try to change someone's opinion, as that's an exercise in futility, but I was wondering what you didn't like about it?

The idea of the movie I thought was good, but the dialogue and the writing of it I thought was very bad. The conversation between the characters seemed to be forced and did not flow very well; also some of the parts seemed unbelieveable. Nine Years??

Fair enough and I agree on some level, but you should know that after 45 minutes you still don't really know what the idea of the movie is.

Watched 3 movies over the weekend. Here they are in order from best to worst.

1. North Country - Charlize Theron, Frances McDormund, Sissy Spacek, Woody Harrelson. Should have been nominated for Best Picture in my opinion.

2. Constant Gardener - beautifully done, but really just ok.

3. Walk the Line - decided cleaning my bathroom would be more interesting.

Ive been wanting to see this one since it came out on DVD...Will probably rent it this week,

We get it Charlize, you're a serious actress. Can you go back to being sexy now? And Aeon Flux doesn't count.

It was so insanely predictable, shallow and over the top.The characters had zero depth, whatsoever. There were good guys -- who never did anything wrong -- and bad guys -- who were pure evil.

This is an actual quote from the movie -- "Big pharmaceuticals are right up there with the arms dealers."

SPOLIER:

At the end, when the rival tribe came to rape, murder and pillage, I really thought they were going to make the pillagers agents of the big pharmaceutical companies. That's how stupid the movie was.

Just a terrible, terrible movie.

Batman Begins -- really liked this one. I think it was the best at least since the first. Highly recommended. Liam Neeson gets to play the oracle role better than in Star Wars I; Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Rutger Hauer give it a lot more gravity than the earlier Batman movies. After seeing American Psycho I was guessing Christian Bale would not disappoint in this role and he was up to it. Am curious whether War of the Worlds can stand up to this challenge for top entertaining movie of the summer.
I liked it a lot. I am a Bale fan, and after seeing BB, I am a Cillian Murphy fan. After seeing Murphy in BB and 28 Days Later, I think this guy has a good future.

Million Dollar Hotel is my most recent movie I haven't seen before. Liked it enough to recommend it to others.

Caught Eternal Sunshine of the Spotted Mind on cable - was my 2nd viewing of it since I saw it for the first time a year and a half or so ago - I really loved it this time around. Very interesting love story.

The fight scene in the narrow hallway is reason enough to watch this movie.

You have got to be joking. That movie was horrific! Disjointed is kind. Jovavich looked OK, but there was no good acting, no moving story line, the special effects and CG looked like something out of Lawnmower Man, and the fight scenes were repetitive and lacked any real sense of danger for Violet. The music was unoriginal and when not being over used, it was out of place. The movie world was not explained in a way that made any sense. Lastly, why call them Vampires if they don't suck blood? Ultraviolet was easily a top five worst movie I have seen and a complete waste of time.
