Grr. Went to see The Raid. Except Alamo Drafthouse had screwed up their webpage and it wasn't playing at 10:20 pm, when they said it was. It had played at 10:55 am. Which begs the question, who is watching Korean ultraviolence at 10:55 am? Not me. Instead, watched The Avengers. Massive Meh. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good either. And I'm being kind because I was drunk.

I don't get the circlejerk reaction The Avengers is getting.
How exactly is it different than any other super hero movie besides there being multiple heros in it? That sorta novelty is cool enough, but it doesn't explain the massive love the film is getting. I will say the CGI was pretty stellar throughout though.
That's easy - the script and the humor. For my $, this is the best in this Marvel series. What really impressed me was Joss' ability to have 6 Avengers in a movie, still give all of them their own arc and stay true to their individual characteristics, and give all of them their "moment". There are a couple knocks I have on it - namely weak villain, and the aliens at the end were kinda lame as well. If you are a huge Iron Man fan, I could see not loving it. While he had his moments, it seemed like Stark was purposely toned down to allow for the others to get theirs too.
I don't think this is a top comic book movie overall - I still think stuff like the new Batmans, Spidey 2, a couple of the Xmen, and Watchmen were better. However, I thought it was a damn good movie and liked how the juggling act was pulled off. I was little nervous after how much I disliked Thor, but I had a blast with this movie.
