Movies are #####. TV is where the good stories are being told.
I agree to a point, but it's not a fair comparison. Telling a story over a 10hr + season is a lot easier than doing it in a 2 hour movie. Of course they can have more characters and develop them all to their leisure.
We are in a great era for TV, and it seems to only be getting better. More money than ever is being thrown into these shows, and now a lot of actors are jumping into these series, because like you pointed out, there are a lot of different things you can do with the shows you can't do on the big screen. A lot of bigger directors are jumping to TV shows too.
I went from hardly watching a TV maybe 3 years ago and mostly just watching movies to being addicted to waaayyy too many shows: Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad,
Sons of Anarchy, American Horror Story, Misfits, Homeland, Orphan Black, and I am sure a few others that I am forgetting.
Part of it is quality of the shows, and part of it is time. As my son gets older and busier I have less time and am more tired. I am more likely to watch an episode or two of a show at night to unwind than I am to pop in a movie (doesn't help that the trend in movies I want to watch seems to be to push the 2 1/2 hour boundary)
