22 Jump Street:

I will mostly echo what I said about How To Train Your Dragon. Not quite to the level of the first one, but still damn good. A lot of laughs. If anything I thought they went a tad over the line and got a little too meta. Seemed like a few of the jokes landed a little flat after awhile. Those two have damn good chemistry, and still had a ton of fun with the movie. One of the better comedies of the year I've seen. 7.5/10.

This movie is a lot of things. Dumb is not one of them.

One of my favorites. But have to admit, the music is a huge reason why I love it. Wore out the soundtrack on this.

I've probably listened to this soundtrack more than any other album over the last 15 years.

The Odyssey is a book and storytelling has come a long way in the past 3000 years. You can't just adapt a classic book and say "My movie is based on a classic book - it's gotta be great!"

Saw Nightcrawler yesterday.

Still don't know what to make of it. The acting is amazing and the filming is spectacular. Just really strange still to watch it because it really lacks a clear protagonist and antagonist. I also found the underlying "point" of the movie to be unclear. Wonderful movie, somewhat weird story.

It was entertaining but I was expecting more due to the great reviews. The filming is great but I'm not as enthused with Gyllenhal's performance. He had some powerful scenes but overall he was more alien then human to me. Didn't buy the character.I was entertained but a little too one-note.

I chose to see that over interstellar because of the reviews here. I have been wanting to go to the movies for weeks and was looking forward to getting lost in a movie for two hours and being entertained. This movie did not do that for me. In fact, I caught myself yawning a lot. I think the acting was fine but there was not much substance to it.

Just saw "Neighbors" last night with my 17 yr. old son. Not a Seth Rogen fanboy but not a hater either (rampant here I know). Had a few good laughs but pretty bad overall and it stretched on forever.

It wasn't good. In fact, if it was a girl, I wouldn't have sex with it, even if I was blind drunk - and THAT is pretty severe.

Wife, son and I watched The Conjuring last night for the first time (every light in the house off).

It was awesome. What a scary well directed horror movie. My son and I went and saw Annabelle a few weeks ago. This was much more frightening.

One of the 10 scariest horror flicks I have ever seen.

Its a teen movie. Its adopted from a young adult book at least. Its not bad. Its a movie to see if your teen is going through a death of some kind or if your teen is affected by a recent death. Might allow your teen to open up about the topic if they have any questions.

Loved Snowpiercer. I was a little hesitant to watch it since the trailer made it seem cheesy and clichéd. Not saying it wasn't at times but there were many little moments that went against what you'd expect. I loved the cinematography and the directors use of camera angles. Although I didn't care for the:

Lots of WTF moments, good fight scenes and Tilda Swinton was great. 4/5

The Wolf of Wall Street didn't really grab me like I was hoping it would. DiCaprio is out of his mind great in this one, obvious Oscar nomination. Actually I don't think there was a bad performance in the movie at all. The direction was very good, but the movie could have easily been 30 minutes shorter.

So why didn't it grab me? Could have been the repetitive nature of the whole thing. After the 8th or 9th coke binge it just stopped being interesting. Could have been that there's no one to really root for. I didn't like Belfort enough to want him to succeed or hate him enough to want him to fail. Ultimately there's a lot of sizzle (big house, nice cars, wild parties) in the movie but very little steak you can actually sink your teeth into. Scorsese heavy handidly paints the FBI guys as suckers, but only subtly reminds the audience that the coke and titty parties that Wall Street throws are financed by us chumps. Speaking of the sizzle, there are lots of ####### and drug use and drug use on ####### in this movie (which will likely keep this from winning the big statue IMO).

I recommend it for the unbelievable performances, but the story doesn't shed any new light on a subject we've seen dozens of times before (Boiler Room the most obvious example). This won't have a lot of rewatchability, but it's worth checking out to be part of the water cooler discussion on it. Not terrible, not great. 3.8 / 5

edit to add: the # words there are euphemisms for breasts. Didn't know that was a no go on the language filter. Sorry about that.

Seeing this tonight.

Saw it yesterday and loved it. Probably the best movie I've seen this year, although I admit I haven't seen a few of the big ones like American Hustle or 10 Years a Slave. I liked it better than Gravity though, which I also thought was excellent (saw it in 3D). I am a sucker for good movies about finance (a by-product of working in front lines of the industry), which this movie was and Boiler Room was not.

Boiler Room was entertaining but it focused too much on the scam and the plight of the retail customer, which certainty is a worthy emphasis but quite frankly is boring. Wolf chooses instead to focus on the characters and humanizes the scams. In doing this, I feel it becomes a much deeper and more complex exposition about the perils of greed, hubris, and breaking the law. In my opinion, this movie is the modern day version of Wall Street, with bit more polish and a lot more sex and drugs.

Havent seen it yet, but based in the previews I did think it could be similar to Boiler Room, except less personal and more high-end and widely effecting. Love Boiler Room, interested to see how Wolf comes across to me.

For any that like financial dramas, I just watched Kevin Spacey in Margin Call. That was a darn good movie. Not amazing or groundbreaking, but well-written.

Yeah, Margin Call was very good I thought. Great script and its pretty much a non-stop thriller once it gets rolling. Best performance from Paul Bettany that Ive seen, the acting was strong across the board as well with the strong ensemble cast. Surprised it didnt get more buzz a couple years ago, I believe the screenplay was nominated for an oscar.

Just saw this over the weekend. Very good movie.

Came on real late the other night and I couldn't turn it off. You see the ending coming a mile away but Kevin Kline was so good as he almost always is that it made up for it.

Ok, not great but worth watching on a rainy day.

I never used to be a fan of Allen, but the last few pictures of his I've seen I actually enjoyed so I gave it a look-see.

When I first saw the trailer for this I thought it was a Woody Allen picture but as it turns out, it was written and directed by Turturro.

I went into this with not low, but limited expectations, and It was a surprisingly entertaining movie and actually had a very satisfying ending. (no - not that kind of satisfying ending).

Although it's hard to believe a premise of Turturro as a Gigolo, he makes himself believable in this picture. IMHO.

Woody Allen as the friend/pimp and how the "business" gets off the ground is the only thing that didn't jive with me - but I was able to get past that. After all - it is just a movie.

Sharon Stone, Sofia Vergara, Liev Schreiber and Vanessa Paradis (who I wasn't familiar with) were all great in limited but important roles.

Good enjoyable flick, - if you like blood and bullets - this isn't for you.

If you like the occasional independent artsy flick, I suspect you will like it.

Everything about O Brother was incredibly well done. In 30 years it will be regarded as a classic. One of my top 10 all time favorite movies.

For us it was one of the rare movies that kids and parents can truly enjoy, from 3 years old to 49. Lots of movies try to fit into that rare group, but very few are truly enjoyable for those on both ends of the age spectrum in my family.

This won't have a lot of rewatchability, but it's worth checking out to be part of the water cooler discussion on it. Not terrible, not great. 3.8 / 5

Seeing this tonight.

Saw it yesterday and loved it. Probably the best movie I've seen this year, although I admit I haven't seen a few of the big ones like American Hustle or 10 Years a Slave. I liked it better than Gravity though, which I also thought was excellent (saw it in 3D). I am a sucker for good movies about finance (a by-product of working in front lines of the industry), which this movie was and Boiler Room was not.

Boiler Room was entertaining but it focused too much on the scam and the plight of the retail customer, which certainty is a worthy emphasis but quite frankly is boring. Wolf chooses instead to focus on the characters and humanizes the scams. In doing this, I feel it becomes a much deeper and more complex exposition about the perils of greed, hubris, and breaking the law. In my opinion, this movie is the modern day version of Wall Street, with bit more polish and a lot more sex and drugs.

Havent seen it yet, but based in the previews I did think it could be similar to Boiler Room, except less personal and more high-end and widely effecting. Love Boiler Room, interested to see how Wolf comes across to me.

For any that like financial dramas, I just watched Kevin Spacey in Margin Call. That was a darn good movie. Not amazing or groundbreaking, but well-written.

Yeah, Margin Call was very good I thought. Great script and its pretty much a non-stop thriller once it gets rolling. Best performance from Paul Bettany that Ive seen, the acting was strong across the board as well with the strong ensemble cast. Surprised it didnt get more buzz a couple years ago, I believe the screenplay was nominated for an oscar.

Just saw this over the weekend. Very good movie.

I was surprised this didn't get more pub. Feels like the studio didn't work very hard to promote it.
