Rented Me and You and Everyone We Know.If you liked American Beauty, you'll like this. If you didn't, you probably won't.

Wedding Crashers - longer than I expected.

Didn't expect it to turn into a love story so fast either.

Still. A not-obnoxious comedy.

The sub-plot with the horny mother could have been edited out.

And it was shockingly bad when the "bad boyfriend" actually shot Vaughn in the ###. WTF was that?

:hifive: I watched this last night and was actually looking at our clock several times, meaning two things:

1. I was bored.

2. This thing dragged on far too long.

I think my first mistake was going for the uncut version on the DVD when I should have opted for the Theatrical Release. Of course, uncut to me means one thing - a slight chance of nudity and thus, my decision to go for that angle.

Meh...I found the movie funny at times, but comparing it to another recent comedy, 40 Year-Old-Virgin, this thing wasn't in the same league, I'm afraid.

The plot line with the mother was dumb as it never went anywhere. And how do these guys just scrap their real lives and their jobs to vacation with this family on a whim? Does nobody in the movies have a boss? And I could have done without the Will Ferrel cameo. Dumb as dirt, that.

In short, I agree with Andy on all fronts here.

Just checked out Batman Begins.  I hope that if this stays a franchise that they will maintain the same spirit that went into this flick. Waiting an hour to put the guy into the Batsuit was a bold and risky move that I really appreciated.

Saw Corpse Bride (which I believe is now a rental) on a flight. It wasn't as cool as I thought it would be.Earlier I watched the Incredibles (my brother got it for me for my PSP). That was pretty cool, I hope they make sequels

watched Assault on Precinct 13.....

Nice enough movie, but too far fetched to be believed.
I highly recommend the original. John Carpenter did a sensational job of essentially updating "Rio Bravo" and turning it into a low-budget masterpiece. A very good film.

How about "The Final Cut" with Robin Williams. The wife and I tried to watch this Saturday night. We were really digging the film until a scratch on the disk kept us from watching the last 1/2 of the flick. Up until that point I thought it was really good. Hopefully we get the disk back today and can watch the rest tonight.

It runs out of steam and ends too quickly. Still, gotta have resolution, so watch the rest.

I was wondering about this one. I've liked both of his recent psycho movies (Insomnia, One Hour Photo) He plays a creepy guy very well.

Final Cut was a disappointment and if I had it to do over, I wouldn't spend the time. The payoff doesn't work and is disappointing considering the, overall, well done build up.

Anyone seen "Brothers Grimm" or "4 Brothers" they are being sent to me.
Brothers Grimm- My gf liked it, I thought it was more of a kids movie. Kind of like Haunted Mansion without Eddie Murphy  4 Brothers-   Entertaining, if you have #### you will like this movie. Actually, my gf liked it too, better than brothers grimm

The 40 Year Old Virgin: Thumbs way up. It's got some raunchy moments, but it also has a really sweet side. Steve Carrell is very lovable as the title character and I think he deserves more acclaim for his performance. Catherine Keener is really cute as his love interest. Entertaining comedy, but I agree with those that complain that it's too long.

Rented a movie called "The Station Agent" from the Sundance section of Blockbuster. Surprisingly good.
Yep.
I also really, really enjoyed this. Also rented lately:

Brother's Keeper. A documentary about four brothers that live and work on their farm. One night one of them dies, and the police arrest one of the brothers for his murder. Surprisingly interesting.

The Maltese Falcon. Bogart. Classic. Good stuff.

Run Ronnie Run. I laughed. It's got a little humor for everyone.

still waiting on 2046.
Me too.
Eh? So did you love "In The Mood For Love" or is there another reason people would watch this? I'm just wondering, cuz I think In The Mood For Love is one of my top 5 films, but I rarely hear anyone else mention it.

March of the Penguins.Other than the fact that it was beautifully shot, and I have a greater appreciation now for how friggin' cold it is in the Antarctic...Meh.

Saw the Fantastic Fo...... I thought it was alright. they did a decent job of keeping the four main characters true to the comic. Doom sucked though. Why does whoever run the Marvel movie studios think that scientists and industrialists are good villians? Making Doom just some schmo capitalist was dumb. Also.... if I was Mr. Fantastic..... I would never wear pants.....

I also saw Southern Comfort for the first time. That was good. By imdb it looks like they might be remaking this in 2006. Also, has anyone heard of the Warriors remake? It seems that Tony Scott is changing the location from New York to L.A. and is making it more grandiose..... he said the gang fights will involve thousands of gang members. Also.... he's trying to use real gang members and real gangs as extras. The making of documentary might be worth watching.

Last two movies i saw from the Netflix were Millers Crossing and Hudsucker Proxy.....Millers was much better than Hudsucker. Hudsucker reminded me of Brazil with its way satirical take on big business. Next on my list is La Dolce Vita, alwys wanted to watch this.

corpse bride not out on dvd until jan 31

Red Eye with Rachel McAdams (Wedding Crashers)Rent this movie. Quite exciting. Moreso than it has any right to be. And McAdams is fantastic in it.

The 40 Year Old Virgin: Thumbs way up. Catherine Keener is really cute as his love interest.
I still hate her from Being John Malkovich.Maybe I'd better see 40 Year Old Virgin to get a different perspective.

Amazing the differences of opinions with 40 YOV.I didn't think it was in the same class as Wedding Crashers.Though both were funny.

She played the ##### so well in Malkovich that this one really shows her range; she is a very convincing sweetheart in this one. Check it out.

The Cave. This one came and went in the theaters in about the time it takes to sneeze. It's about a group of the world's most beautiful scientists and scuba divers who discover a reaaaally huge underground cave system in a remote location in Eastern Europe - Our heroes go in and under, and are promptly hunted down by slimy winged creatures. Cole Hauser, one of the stars of "Pitch Black," a film about a group of people hunted down by slimy winged creatures, flexes his acting range in this film. Some beautiful shots of people scuba diving through the caves. And that's really it.Lame creature effects, fairly stock characters, no nudity. Not the worst sci-fi horror ever made, but a far cry from a good one. I give it * 1/2 stars.

American Pie - Band Camp.Mindless comedy. Do a few bong hits and youll laugh out loud a few times.Oh, and lots of boobies. ( . ) ( . )

recently saw Trainspotting, awesome movie.
Easily a top 20 all time movie for me.And bagging on Katherin Keener should be a crime. She's one of the most underrated actresses alive. Walking and Talking is an exceptional movie.

Murder Ball: Documentary about wheel chair Rugby.

Excellent documentary. Very real, inspiring, funny at times and tragic at times. Develops a nice little storyline of the rivalry between Canada and The US. The dudes in that had some hot girlfriends

Overall, I'd give it an A-

Dukes of Hazard - just plain bad... The extra on the dvd "How to Launch a Car 40 Feet Thru the Air" was better than the movie and it was only like 5 minutes long. If you are a Supertroopers fan, it's worth it to watch just to catch the cameos from all the Broken Lizard guys.Secret Window - meh. I guess I've read too much Stephen King over the years, had the plot of this movie pegged from when I saw the commercials for it a few years ago.Amelie - Excellent film, and unbelievable cinematography. Not a mainstream film, but it was very creative. And a bonus because I finally understand those damn Travelocity "Traveling Gnome" commercials.Chocolat - Cute little chick flick. I thought the ending was a little abrupt and Alfred Molina was criminally underused. The movie made me hungry. In Good Company - An okay movie, not bad, but not great. I'm not really sure what the point of the film was, (is it an anti-capitalism film? a coming of age story? a finding yourself story?), it just kind of rambled on.

After numerous FBG recommendations I watched City of God.

A great and intense movie. I'm really interested in looking more into the making of it and the story behind it.

This one definately would have slipped past me if not for this board.

hustle and flow = great flickgood story and excellent actingthe bonus features are cool alsoapparently no studios would fund it and after 4 years john singleton decided to fund it himself. director and writer are from memphis so isaac hayes, singer from saliva, and three six mafia all involved. also as everyone is saying terrence howard is amazing in it.

ya released jan 10th

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - I expected to be disappointed and I was not disappointed in my expectation.

From the Hip - (1987) With Judd Nelson... Yea, I know, but he's actually decent here. And a way cute 'Lizabeth Perkins. Not a fall on the floor laugher, but definitely a few laughs. Ray Walstons judge is right up there with Fred Gwynne's in MCV. Good flick to see with your SA.

Just rented Wedding Crashers and 40 Year Old Virgin.Wedding Crashers was so-so. Had a few laughs in there, but too few and far between. On part made me laugh so hard I nearly stopped breathing, so overall it was okay.40 Year Old Virgin was putrid. Thing was so boring, I didn't laugh once. My wife turned to me and said "This thing is supposed to be a comedy"? halfway through the movie. Considering my wife through Anchorman was great and this one starred half of that cast, and we both like the Office, I'd have to say this movie was a major disappointment.

Without the mother plot line we don't have:"Why don't you try getting jacked off under the table in front of the whole damn family and have some real problems, jackass. Hey, what were they like anyway? They looked pretty good, are they real? Are they built for speed or comfort? What'd you do with them? Motorboat? You play the motorboat?

[makes sputtering motorboat noise] You motorboatin son of a #####! You old sailor you! Where is she? She still in the house?"

I just watched Kinsey on cable the other day. Excellent movie. I avoided it until now because I thought it looked boring. But it was quite the opposite.Scene where Neeson and Linney were describing Neeson's unit to the doctor was classic.

I Robot - if you go in w/low expectations and don't expect it to be very faithful to its namesake, it's OK as your basic action flick.Serial Mom - whatsername insisted it was a great flick. It's one of the worst I've ever seen. gawd. Insomnia - whoever said Robin Wms plays a good villian is on crack. He sucks and is completely not believable as a villian. The movie sucking wasn't all his fault though.

Just watched The Island  Very enjoyable sci-fi action flick. McGregor is cool, Johansson is hot. Excellent freeway chase scene. Lots of stuff gets blowed up. The sci-fi stuff was about on par with Gattaca and Minority Report: Very cool but not too implausible.

Red Eye with Rachel McAdams (Wedding Crashers)

Rent this movie. Quite exciting. Moreso than it has any right to be. And McAdams is fantastic in it.
Watched this tonight. I probably would never have rented it but remembered a good review on FBG.Very meh. wait for HBO.

spoilers

It seemed unrealistic to go through so much trouble for the hit. Couldn't they blow up any room? And what was going on during the takeoff? I've never been in a plane with turbulance during a takeoff.

The whole premise was stupid.

The Wedding Crashers - the scenes w/ the sister that was all over Vince Vaughn, had me laughing so hard that I was in tears. The rest of it was meh.

40YOV - funny movie that was about 40 minutes too long.

The Constant Gardener - good story, acting and directing, but the movie was very slow and predictable.

Half-Light - I assume that this was a straight to video release because I had never heard of it before seeing it on the shelves. Decent movie w/ an aging Demi Moore, that had me guessing what was really going on, but the ending was kind of disappointing.

The Chumscrubber - video release, advertised as a black comedy. Had a good story, good cast (Glenn Close, William Fichtner, Ralph Fiennes, John Heard, Lauren Holly, Carrie-Ann Moss, Rory Culkin), good acting, good production value, but wasn't funny at all. This could have been a good classic if the script had more/some humor in it.
