Story wasn't phenominal, but like I said Steve Martin is pretty funny.I heard Star Wars is good also.I loved Basic Instinct, so I had to see the 2nd one even though I knew it was going to suck. Terrible plot, script and acting. I still found it mildly interesting. Rent at your own risk.
Co-co-ree-co?Not trying to circumvent the language filter, but if anyone wants to Netflix that film, the above censored word is the first word out of a rooster's mouth and it starts with a C.
Just saw Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. I'm not a fan of the title, but great movie. Tommy Lee Jones did pretty well directing and starring this movie. Takes place in Texas. You get a closer look at the relationships between the illegals, the cowboys, and the border police. I highly recommend it.
Next up on my Netflix queue - Midnight Run with Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin. Haven't seen it in a while, so I've forgotten most of it.
I love Coogan. He's such a funny, charming kind of actor. Did you see/like "24 hour party people"? It's an interesting approach to telling a story (much the same way that "Tristam Shandy" is inventive) . Coogan is excellent in it.Just saw a funny British film (check the name out)
"Tristram Shandy: A #### and Bull Story"
Fans of the British series "The Office" might dig this film. Silly, smart, and some good laughs. Big thumbs up.

Thanks...I was trying really hard to find F___ and Bull in Netflix and was gettin nothin.
Gotta love the language filter.I wante to see Tristram... but not my wife's cup of tea. Hooray beer, hooray Netflix. Was really and happily suprised by "24 hour Party People" when I saw it. Grew up listening to and loving Factory records- especially Joy Division, and thought I'd just be getting some nice memories of the music. But it was a very well made film on top of it- good use of breaking down the movie/audience wall, and very well acted.I love Coogan. He's such a funny, charming kind of actor. I really enjoyed Three Burials. I also enjoyed that hottie that played the cop's wife.

I did see that film and I liked it. I need to see it again. Frankly, I would have guessed that no one on this board had ever heard of Tristram Shandy. Good movie. Have you seen Velvet Goldmine? That's a very underrated film. There's a lot of the gay in that one, but great original music.I wante to see Tristram... but not my wife's cup of tea. Wish I read this before last night. What a horrible movie.I loved Basic Instinct, so I had to see the 2nd one even though I knew it was going to suck. Terrible plot, script and acting. I still found it mildly interesting. Rent at your own risk.
I just watched this and didn't think it was that bad. Fight scenes were reminiscent of The Transporter (same director, not sure if it's the same fight choreographer). The fight scene in the Water Closet was very well done.Firewall- not bad

Watched this last nite. Agree with the recommendation, it was quite interesting. Also had the same thoughts about how hard it would be to live in that environment, as well as the sense that there will never be a lasting peace in the middle east since there are so many people with such a deeply ingrained hatred of the mere existance of Israel. Good movie.Paradise Now. IMDB
Movie about two Palestinian young men "chosen" for suicide mission. It was fascinating portrayal of that side of the equation. I would highly recommend it. Also, I couldn't help but think the whole time that learning Arabic would be immensely challenging.

I loved Shaolin Soccer, so I am guessing Kung Fu Hustle will be good, as well.kung fu hustle - i caught some of his earlier film "shaolin soccer" and wasn't really impressed by it. this was a lot better. it is funny, even if it's in a cartoonish way, with decent special effects. it plays with the often formulaic genre of kung fu films.
Watched this last night. Good stuff!Recent viewings:

By the time I got to the twist I felt the story was so far gone it ruined what could have been a good ending... then they draged it on for an extra 10 minutes when it should have just ended with Clive Owen leaving the hotel and returning home.Recent viewings:

Derailed - Very good; nice twist to the story.
Hostage - OK. Bruce Willis film; plot was kind of forced.
That movie was a riot... I do have to say I was slightly disappointed by the ending but I laughed pretty hard throughout the movie.Watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang last night based on high recommendations in this thread. Maybe not as enjoyable as some made it out to be, but good nonetheless. Downey Jr. and Kilmer were both very good, Kilmer especially. Probably my favorite scene was seeing the girl creeping through her home holding her baseball bat...with "Wonder Girl" etched into it. Great little homage to The Natural.
Not recent, but a very underrated film is "Flirting" with Noah Taylor, Thandie Newton and Nicole Kidman. About young love at a boarding school. LINKIf she likes sweet documentaries, "The Story of the Weeping Camel" is very good.Diva- This was my favorite movie as a kid and I finally got my wife to see it. As with most things I liked as a kid, I was curious to see if it held up... and it did. Beautifully filmed and styled, interesting story (by the guy who did Betty Blue) with enough action to lift it past the horrible acting of the opera star turned actress who is the "diva".
I have a list of movies in our Netflix queue (Duck Soup, Bill Hicks) but I'd like to get something in there for wifey, since she's sat through a couple of my picks in a row. Any suggestions? Recent movies preferred...
Thanks, man. "Flirting"... wow- saw that in the theaters and hadn't thought about it since. I remember liking the movie a lot- completely forgot/didn't know that Kidman was in it. "Weeping Camel" is Iranian, right? After Diva, not likely she's going to want to go for antoher subtitled film. She's actually more of a Sci-Fi/fantasy/horror fan than I am- so anything in those genres would be great. Not recent, but a very underrated film is "Flirting" with Noah Taylor, Thandie Newton and Nicole Kidman. I loved "Flirting"! Noah Taylor is excellent in the film. I still crack up at the thought of his boxing match with J-P Sartre. Thanks, man. Ok, I sound like I have a one-track mind. Another good film is "Max". Noah Taylor (again) as a young Adolph Hitler. John Cusack as his art dealer. VERY underrated film.As for sci fi / horror / fantasy, have you two seen "The Machinist"? Decent psychological thriller with Christian Bale. Thanks, man. Max is cool because it doesn't attempt to make another "Hitler is a monster" film. We know Hitler was a bad guy. What interests me is wondering how he became what he became.Machinist isn't perfect, and it's subtle. Certainly owes a lot to films like The Sixth Sense. But Bale is good, as always."Max" got mixed reviews, as i recall. "Machinist" is in my netflix queue already.Ok, I sound like I have a one-track mind. Another good film is "Max". By the way, as long as Hitler's on the table, I URGE all of you to see "Downfall." No one thirsts to see a long film about Hitler's last days, but this is a masterpiece. Bruno Ganz is a fine European actor that never really hooked up with the Hollywood set. I first saw him in "wings of desire" and later in vignette in "especially on sunday". i had thought he died a few years ago but was pleased to see his name turn up for "downfall". i've been meaning to see that, as its probably better than alec guiness' turn as der fuhrer. kinda weird to see obi wan kenobi as hitler...By the way, as long as Hitler's on the table, I URGE all of you to see "Downfall." No doubt. I wasn't looking forward to Downfall. I've seen so many films about WWII, a new one doesn't always excite me.
