Watched a couple Manhattan movies that I was hoping I would like more than I did:
The Seven Year Itch:
I have really liked most of Wilder's movies so far, and one of my favs was Some Like it Hot where I just adored Marilyn in that role. I found this one to be a bit repetitive and dull. I think a lot had to do with the start of the movie and just having Ewell talking to himself too much. I suspected that it was based on a play as I was watching it, as it really had that feel. The movie depended on the chemistry of the leads, which I thought was non-existent. Couple fun or iconic moments, but mostly meh. 5/10
Manhattan:
Only seen a handful of Woody's movies, and I think have only really liked one so far (Annie Hall). This one was more of the usual: ome great scenes, some witty dialogue, but I think I find his movies too exhausting to really enjoy. After awhile the rapid-fire, too-witty dialogue gets tiring and I feel takes away from the more honest feelings and ideas at their core. This was one of the better I have watched, but I think after a handful of movies I am putting him in the Wes Anderson camp for directors - I appreciate what they do, I just don't enjoy it much. 6/10

Best movie I've seen this year. Works on several levels as a political statement, a morality play, and a top shelf actioner.
Benecio del Toro gives a career performance, rising above his legendary smarmy charisma to possibly the best working actor in the world. Blount is good in an unrewarding role and josh Brolin is his typical badass self.

Any Blue Ruin fans interested in investing in the lead's next film, shoot me a pm. In final negotiations signing on as a Co-producer. More details to follow, but the script is great and they've already begun shooting. Well be doing some meetings with the producer over the weekend to confirm c financial feasibility, but looking really good.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. - 6/10
Like most Guy Ritchie movies (the first Sherlock movie being the exception) it's too much style, not enough substance, and the pacing runs in fits and jerks.
It couldn't decide what kind of film it wanted to be.
Didn't really like it.

Loved Lock, Stock and Snatch. Didn't care for the Sherlock movies. But this movie was different and better than Ritchie's recent failures. Not saying it's a great movie, but I liked the humor and art direction. I think it bodes well for future Ritchie efforts.

Two thumbs way up. Loved it. Feels heavily marinated in real science and astrophysics. Entertaining from start to finish, and probably the best movie I've seen all year.

was pretty ok on it, but overall solid (well made, paced and acted). thought it was heavily formulaic (pitch: hey- instead of the shuttle or space-station, let's put Sandra Bullock on Mars... she's booked? ok.. how about Matt Damon?) and didn't get into any of the psychological aspects of being stranded on a planet... which would have made it "good" instead of "ok" for me. but yeah, it's well made and kinda fun and feel good, so
we saw it in 3d due to limited window for viewing for us. does not need to be seen in 3d

Avengers: Age of Ultron -
I will admit that I had fun with it to a point, but I think that was mostly because my 9 year old was enjoying it so much. One of the first "big boy" movies that he has been able to get all the way through without anything bothering him (which was a surprise to me since it was a tad dark - esp with the visions Scarlet Witch gave them). Just thinking purely my enjoyment, I would say that it was slightly above average, and the only thing keeping it that way for me is Wheedon's ability to still have some great quiet moments with the characters and take the time to touch on all their story lines. Besides that, I found the action scenes to mostly be blah as we have the need to slow down the action so we can have our GCI heros pose for the camera. I really do hate it when movies do that, so I was grumbling about 5mins into the movie. Also thought the final battle was bland compared to the first Avengers movie. I think this one is in the bottom part of the Marvel movies for me. 5.5/10
Really excited for Captain America - Civil War next year, and although I am sad that Joss isn't doing the Avengers anymore, I am really glad that the guys behind the camera for Winter Soldier are doing the next Avengers movie. I still think Winter Soldier is easily the best Marvel movie so far.
