Rematch: Message Board Vs. Staff Survivor (1 Viewer)

My quality lies in short quips.See such gems as "$5 says he's not in the league in 3 years" and "What does arm strength matter when he's looking sideways out his helmet 80% of the time?" on a daily basis! :bag:

I want in. A chance to slap Wood, Colin, Levin etc around is always welcome. And it really was too easy to do last year.

Hopefully the staff won't bust us with their new Kicker Squeeze Theory.

I have always had a huge desire to be in a league with (or against) staff members. I don’t post as much as some (though I do read as much as humanly possible in these forums), but my desire to be in these staff leagues is stronger than anybody else’s out there.

1) I’ve PM’d others who are consistently in staff/member leagues to pick their brains on how to get in (ie, Lhucks can attest to that). (Sorry, no link for a PM.)

2) I tried to get into Shick!’s Survivor league (via the Haiku) - as I submitted entries each round: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...ic=162566&st=35

3) I have entered into several leagues with fellow message board members this year (for fun and figuring that if I kicked enough ####, perhaps I’d get recognized…won’t know if that worked out til this season plays out). From dynasty leagues (in Misfits & Outlaws IV and VII) to survivor leagues (MBSL-2 and MBSL-Quorum) and even contributed to new setups that were being tested by staff members (ie, Colin’s mock pariah drafts). (As just one example: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...pic=171447&hl=)

4) When I do contribute on these boards, I don’t discriminate (I hit up a vast array of subjects in all the forums):

4a) The Shark Pool

- Started a Priest Holmes thread back in May before Holmes/Johnson threads were posted on a daily basis by guys that finally “come back” to the boards in July and August. (It focused on how age has correlated to effectiveness in RBs over 30.) http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...opic=157228&hl=

- Spoke out about Henry’s dynasty value back in May (year round on these boards for me!!) when some were suggesting he had no future now that McGahee was the man in Buffalo. http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...opic=159180&hl=

4b) Footballguys Free for All- was active in threads ranging from an Average Beer Man’s draft (I still think I drafted the best ;) (http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=153861&hl= ) to betting strategies in baseball (http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=160773&hl=).

4c) The Assistant Coach - I even pop in here once in a while to see if I have an opinion on someone’s query that hasn’t been posted a thousand times already. (No exciting links as that tends to be straight forward stuff as opposed to strategizing or debating.)

4d) The Dating Game - that's how I got into the Misfits & Outlaw leagues (will be involved in rookie drafts :football: this Saturday with several other board members). :thumbup:

4e) Mock Drafts R Us(see above - MBSL-2, MBSL-Quorum, Pariah, etc) (As one example: Shick!’s pariah: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...pic=160587&hl=)

5) I know how to poke fun (ie, when someone once tried taking credit for predicting the winner of a sports event AFTER it already took place, that was just unacceptable.) (And no, I am not even kidding - I wish I were: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...&st=&p=entry)

6) I do not just hang out on these boards directly before the season (August) and drop off after the NFL regular season is over (January).

6a) Immediately after the regular season ended, BAM, there I was in January engaged in a fun debate with another board member about players for the next season - http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...opic=138679&hl=

6b) In perhaps one of the slowest months on these boards, there I was in March starting a thread about which RBs (of starting caliber) would get screwed based on situations 7 months before the 05 season started: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...opic=146724&hl=

7) Speaking of being here year round and thus, being a true die hard, how many others “black-dotted” the thread on “A Way to Watch Blacked Out Games, Over the Internet” just to see if in a couple months after it was tested, if it had any validity: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...opic=146724&hl=

8) And who else has taken the time to write something like this up?!

Please select me for this league - you will not regret it!

I would LOVE to test my skills and experience in FF against the staff!!

;)

Here's me explaining why you must choose Alexander over Portis last year

Here's me predicting a breakout for Burress and nailing it

Here's me nailing (or pretty close to nailing) some projections on Larry Fitzgerald before last season, where I predicted 1000 yards and 7 TDs (in terms of overall FP, that's right about where he finished)

A thread saying Trent Green should have been top 5 heading into last season where Burning Sensation says Chad Pennington is a better pick.

That's all the searching I can do back to last year right now. But, for God's sake, BF, if my bold prediction of the Steelers over the Pats in the AFC title game last year isn't enough to convince you of my acumen, what is? :bag:

BF,There are a TON of good qualified posters to choose from, I wouldn't want your job in the slightest.That said, should he apply this season, BassNBrew was not chosen last season for the MB team, and then was picked by Dodds to do the critique of the draft from the Message board side. With some scathing reviews, I am sure some of the staff would love for him to be able to put up or shut up this season. ;)

POSTS? :confused: I don't need no stinkin' posts!!! Lemme at em! :boxing: I've drafted against Bueno, Gatorman, Haze, Rudnicki, MT, and yourself among others.I don't post alot. I just draft well. :yes:

This begins and ends with JoeT. He's a one man team in these type of competitions. His track record in survivor leagues speaks for itself. NO BRAINER

I like how on the surface Fred is opening up the competition to the entire MB community when in all practical reality he's already picked out his teammates.Of course, if he could just be as diligent at picking his actual TEAM in the other Survivor draft going on right now . . .(And I didn't realize how well you knew Tom Brady)

I would love to be considered for the Message Board team to throttle the staff.I do not have a lot of posts here (you can find a ton at www.mastersball.com if you want), most of my time here is spent in the Mock Draft Forum for obvious reasons.

I am capable of making mistakes and learning from them. I do agree that the bye-week thing hurt me but I thought it was a calculated risk. If I could have made it past that week, I would have had a good shot at winning. DeShaun Foster was a key cog for me that week who was not there due to injury.

Actually, that'd be ME, sir... :P I had calculated that if I had made it past my week 5 fiasco with Johnson/Owens off the same week, I coulda finished up #3 overall. :cry:

I am interested in playing, but will have to dig and edit with links to represent my value fairly. For now, you can find me in any recent Philadelphia Eagle posts. I haven't posted in '04-'05 like I used to. I did write an article for this site a few years back, and was asked to update it with new info last season.

http://www.footballguys.com/eckhart_hybridleague.htm

Years back, my best posting smashed back the Michael Bennett pre-season hypers. Oh, and Ministry of Pain should be a lock for the team. The guy flat out brings it. Well, he used too when I was around 24/7.

Just :pokey: As you know, I raved about your team other then the bye weeks and had you listed as a top contender for the finals. In your defense, there's something to be said for not being "vanilla" (pun intended) when competing at this level.

I'm going to leave this open until Friday early afternoon, then post a decision from there. We'll need to find a time that everyone can meet ASAP after that so please check in Friday to figure out what's up.

Whoever ends up on this team is going to rock. Many good guys to choose from so you can't really go wrong. But to those who make the team, don't let us down. You have to come prepared and come strong. Don't bring any of that "I'll figure it out" crap. The staff will chew you up and spit you out. Be prepared to draft from any strategy. The staff has been known to startegize a position (like QB) in an effort to force a shortage and throw off the MB team. Be prepared for whatever they try. It won't matter if you know what you're doing. :thumbup:

~~~What up now~~~and I'll be certain to check out your material.As for my plea to be part of the team, I can't really go back to my best material from way back on the old board. Rest assured, I've been around since the beginning and the Dominatrix (Cheatsheets.net) days. Recently, I've been kicking #### and taking names in my leagues and shyed away from the Shark tank. I still always use the Free For All as my 'Puter Guru though.
If you want a major stat-hound like Doddsy, a guy who is not afraid to admit he's opinionated and confrontational, and a guy who generally lands on his feet...I'm your man! As for where to catch my stuff, you can read my FBG's article linked in my last post and I'll roll it all or nothing in the recent 14 page T.O. leaves camp thread and the Offshoot T.O. thread.
Thanks bostonfred for your consideration.
Hope that I'm not too late, got back in from Vegas Thursday night and have been waiting for some information about this league. I enjoyed following and critiquing last year's draft.
I also post in many of the Player Spotlights that Jason Wood puts out which are located on the FBG homepage.
This has been a very difficult task. I only looked at people who posted in this thread. I left some very good posters off the list who had been on this team last year, because I wanted to get some new blood in here. Also, because the top 5 from last year's Survivor 2 auction draft were supposed to get a nod again this year, I gave priority to those of them who posted in this thread and, obviously, are not staff. And frankly, I was selecting JoeT regardless because he writes the best pick commentaries in the business. Because of all those constraints, it's been really tough to trim this down. Here's the eleven people I came up with, in alphabetical order:BassNBrew Evilgrin 72Family MattersIwannabeacowboybabyJoeTKen MaxwellLHUCKSMinistry Of PainradballsTickUnluckyFor those who are involved, please send me a PM with your email address, and what night(s) you can do this, starting this Sunday the 14th. There's a lot of very good posters who didn't make this list. I think everyone will agree that these people have added a lot of value to the boards over the years, and give us a great chance of continuing our undefeated streak against the staff. I hope you can see what a difficult a decision it was to narrow the list down to just eleven, and that those of you who weren't selected try again next year.
PM sent. I am looking forward to kicking some staff butt! While I know it'll be a tremendous challenge, that'll make it even more enjoyable when the MB beats them again.
great squad, fred!I have every confidence this bunch will give the staff more than they can handle, and in fact, fully expect to see at least one more move "to the dark side" (and get a paycheck from Joe!)
give 'em hell!
Wow, I'm proud to be on this team - looks like a powerhouse. I like the Ken Maxwell selection most of all.Someone should do what EBF did last year and select another 12 for a draft with the same rules.
