Report: Matt Leinart in danger of losing job (1 Viewer)

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that "the door has been opened" for Matt Leinart to lose his starting job.

"There's not a lot of confidence in that locker room that Leinart is going to be their long-term quarterback," says Schefter. Schefter names Derek Anderson as the Cardinals' most likely alternative, though Anderson has also done nothing dating back to OTA season (or 2007, for that matter) to earn any degree of trust. We do expect Leinart to start in Week 1, but Monday night's preseason game, as well as the third week of the exhibition season, will go a long way toward determining what sort of leash he's on. In all likelihood, it won't be

be awesome if he shuts him up, that's poor class to announce that right before he plays

Anderson isn't any better

Got to be among the least surprising FF/NFL developments I've ever read about.
Sure...but you've got an all world WR that this greatly impacts. Not that D.A fares much better in Fitz' stats but man I am staying away from Fitz unless he really, really drops....I'd consider passing on him at 18 if Marshall, Austin and/or Austin are on the board.

You realize that Shefter is a reporter, and it's sort of his job to report these things, right?
Reporter's report facts not garbage gossip, every QB in the league is on some sort of leash. Just not a big fan of him spinning negative vibes. I realize most of the shark pool like to pile on...it is what it is...

FWIW, local radio here, 620 KTAR in particular, basically said Schefter's report had no basis in reality. They were blasting him pretty hard.

that didn't take long. He stinks. They've been trying to say the right things and take it easy on him but he doesn't have it.

The new breed of sports (and media) reporter (e.g. Shefter) reports garbage gossip. The fact that his gossip often has some kernel of truth is what makes him a 'reporter' but it's competely different from traditional journalism (obviously).

Seriously I don't see how this team stays in the playoff hunt. That said, why wouldn't they see what they've got in Skelton at some point? If this team starts out like 2-6 or something, all bets are off. Derek Anderson couldn't keep Brady ####### Quinn on the bench, I don't see how Skelton doesn't at least get a shot with the 1's toward the mid to latter parts of the season. Now way this is a playoff team.

Noooooooooooo

Leinart already benched for Anderson

No more laughs

I didn't watch the first game, but the local radio guys who were embedded at Cards camp for a good week or 2 were saying Max Hall is having a better camp than Skelton.

Great throw by Anderson. Leinart may indeed lose his job.
Followed up by a couple of missed opportunities in the red zone. "Hi, Kurt? We'll build you your very own church and pay gas money to your congregation if you come back for one more year..."

Schefter has eyes like the rest of us
That was kind of their point. Schefter hasn't been in camp every day like they have. They certainly weren't heaping praise on Leinart; they were just saying that Anderson has been equally sucky and has done nothing to win the job at this point.

You'd think a team that's in the playoff hunt and had no confidence in their QB would have considered trading for McNabb.

I really don't see how they are in the playoff hunt at all. I think they're going to be terrible. They lost a ton of guys of defense and Warner and Boldin on the offense. I think they may have a top 5 draft pick next year.

Not heard anything locally about this. Would be stunned if it happened before Week 1. If it does, I expect Leinart to be gone. (as in cut before the regular season)

Even if Whiz has no ties to Leinart, they've given him 3 years in the offense. I thought Bulger was the guy to nab this offseason. Perhaps it'll be next. Leinart inspires zero confidence (always viewed him as a left handed David Carr in how he plays).

If Wells isn't a 1200+ rusher, I expect this to be a 6 win team at the max (even in a weak division)

Didn't realize this is a LHUCKS alias. :notebookupdated:

Leinart and Anderson both stink, and Whisenhunt knows it. They have to look outside the organization for help.

I think they should sign Jeff Garcia. He's 40, but he's better than anything they have and he wants to play (he recently signed with a UFL team). Then after the season go after a free agent QB and draft a youngster.

You can't waste this season, too many players are in their primes.
