Ben has not been charged with anything at this time. The Vegas thing is a civil matter according to the police and the accuser's actions after the fact support the falsehood of those statements. Something to be considered is Ben was allowed to leave Georgia. The police could have held him in custody for 48 hours, but didn't do that. The Steelers could suspend or bench him for a week or two to show their displeasure.Pacman Jones was suspended because of multiple charges but was never convicted of anything. In your scenario nobody is accusing you of wrongdoing. Ben has been accused of wrongdoing multiple times. I believe the Commissioner has authority to suspend for conduct detrimental to the game. Ben is bringing on bad publicity for the NFL and he continues to do so.What is he going to suspend him for, having sex?I could have 5 women that didn't like the fact I used them as 1 night stands and all say that I sexually assaulted them. But if there are no marks, no reports till weeks or months later...what can be done? Some players leave their mark like Brady who just impregnates them all(I'm kidding PP, relax) or Travis Henry/Cromartie-better examples. Should Cromartie be suspended for fathering 6 children with 7 women or 7 children with 6 women or whatever the case is...where do you draw the line?Even if this doesnt result in charges, does this being the 2nd incident make disciplinary punishment from Goodell a possibility? Could he be suspended?
You've grabbed on to one tidbit of information and concluded that Roethlisberger is innocent and the woman is lying. That makes as much sense as grabbing on to another tidbit or 2 of information to conclude he's guilty. For example: He was in a college town, hanging with college students, and at (at least) his third bar in a long evening of drinking. He's been accused of a sexual assault before. From that I conclude he's guilty.I know you read it but it's the understanding part that seems to have stumped you. Unless of course you can offer up a viable explanation as to how someone could go to multiple bars with Rothlisberger and have no idea who he is and when asked to describe him provide his exact height and weight as listed on NFL.com.
Wow did Ben catch a break or what. What are the chances that a guy with the same physical description as him but different spelled last name is the real suspect? Nothing to see here folks. Move along.Couch Potato said:Video of just concluded Milledgeville police press conference.

.... and lets stop right there. Accusations are not charges. What has Ben been charged with? Arrested for?Pat Patriot said:Pacman Jones was suspended because of multiple charges ...
By whom? Oh yeah, a girl that was, allegedly, sending e-mails about how great is was to be with Ben and now a girl at a club.Pat Patriot said:Ben has been accused of wrongdoing multiple times.

Wrong. I said the women was not telling the truth because it's not plausible to say you don't know him especially when you are able to provide his exact listed measurements. Now from that statement I made you inferred that I said he was not guilty because that's the reasonable conclusion people make when an accuser is lying. this seems to be where the measurment info was introduced, but I cannot find the source.just curious for how it was presented.Godsbrother said:While he should be free to go out wherever he pleases hanging out with 20 year old girls at college bars late at night is pretty dumb and asking for trouble. That said it is odd that she supposedly was hanging out with him much of the night but did not identify Roethlisberger by name to the police. Instead she described her assailant as a white male, 6'5" tall and weighing 241 lbs, which is exactly the measurements listed on the Steelers website.Just Win Baby said:Roethlisberger just turned 28. I don't think there is any report of the woman saying she did not know who he was. What if she was scared to name him because it might make her look bad? Her lying about not knowing who he was doesn't mean the events were also made up.
Yeah they are debating the post that didn't have source but said it was "odd she didn't name him but described him based on his exact stats available off the Steelers' website." This doesn't clear anything up either, but at least it is from someone who was in the VIP area:ESPN says a bouncer said Roth and his crew were in the VIP room and the bouncer was instructed not to let any men back. he said anywhere from 5-20 women were in and out all night. There was, apparently, a bathroom not accessible to the general public. No men other than the Roth crew were back there all night
doesn't clear up anything on what went down obviously.
LinkAmber Hanley, a 21-year-old college student, said she and a few friends were also in the VIP area with Roethlisberger. She said she asked the quarterback to take a photo with her friend, whose boyfriend was a fan, but he seemed disappointed that's all she wanted. Hanley said she rolled her eyes, and Roethlisberger called her an expletive and walked away. Later, Roethlisberger was aggressively hitting on another girl, Hanley said.

I said Roethlisberger is an idiot for putting himself in a college bar trying to pick up drunk college girls when he is a 28 year old celebrity. The potential for negative situations for a celebrity is blatantly obvious. It's different for Roethlisberger than an average guy, which should have become quite clear to him from the Reno incident last year.ETA: And all of this is even more true if he has a problem with alcohol and/or behaving appropriately towards women. And whoever says 28 is too old to hang out at college bars - screw you! If he sexually assaulted the woman, it will be hard to defend his actions. If he didn't, it will be extremely easy to defend his actions. Watch, I'll give a great example of how to do it:"I'm a man of legal drinking age who was legally imbibing alcohol in a manner and setting of my choosing that complied fully with all laws and regulations of the city, county, state, and country. I'm also a single man with no commitments to the opposite gender who was looking for a willing companion to engage in legal and consensual sexual relations with me in a manner fully compliant with the laws of the state of Georgia and in exercise of the freedoms granted to me by the Constitution of the United States of America".I have a funny feeling Ben is in deep doo doo. Its going to be tough to defend his actions when he was at 3 bars that night doing the same thing. If the accuser just has one witness then Ben is in a ton of trouble. Probably not jail time but a headache non the less.
Someone could take a situation where Ben clearly took "no" for an answer and paint it to look like evidence that Roethlisberger wasn't going to take "no" for an answer? Huh?Seriously, that story demonstrates that Ben wasn't *HAPPY* with taking "no" for an answer... but he clearly and unequivocally took "no" for an answer, whether he was happy with it or not. Is it possible that later in the night he stopped taking "no" for an answer? Absolutely... but this story isn't "evidence" of that. It's not evidence of anything except the fact that Ben is perfectly capable of being told "no" without sexually assaulting the person who told him "no".If this is all true, it could be bad. It's not like the above isn't a regular SOP for many non-rapist men in America, but I'm sure someone could paint that to look like at some point that night Rothlisburger wasn't going to take no for an answer.Amber Hanley, a 21-year-old college student, said she and a few friends were also in the VIP area with Roethlisberger. See how easy it is to defend his actions? I don't get why Joe America thinks that athletes need to APOLOGIZE for practicing much the same freedoms in much the same manner that Joe has regularly enjoyed for his entire life. If the sexual assault charge is a bogus charge, then there is absolutely nothing for Ben to defend. He didn't break any laws. There's nothing in the constitution that says "all men are endowed with certain inalienable rights unless they happen to be pro athletes, in which case the 1st, 9th, and 21st amendments don't apply to them".
Now, clearly Ben's actions were unwise whether the allegations are true or not... but there's a huge difference between unwise and hard to defend. I think smoking cigarettes is unwise, but I don't feel any professional athlete should have to defend his choice to legally acquire and use a regulated product within full compliance of all laws of any local or federal government and the regulations of his employer.
If Big Ben sexually assaulted this woman, then he's going to be in a lot of trouble, and very deservedly so... but don't lose sight of the fact that, if the allegations are false, then Ben Roethlisberger is the victim here. Granted, he's not a very sympathetic figure so not many people are going to view him as such, but that doesn't change the fact that it's the truth. As far as I'm concerned, a victim does not have to apologize for being victimized.
Someone could take a situation where Ben clearly took "no" for an answer and paint it to look like evidence that Roethlisberger wasn't going to take "no" for an answer? Whoa slow down here. I said nothing about me agreeing with that idea, or even anything about a criminal case. I'm not a lawyer, I don't talk about law #### unless I'm asking questions. Sometimes I read these posts and I think--what are they teaching kids out there? Don't they understand reason and logic? Can we now put this to bed until there is more factual information? An indictment? A conviction? Something besides rumor and innuendo?
The issue with the college bar is it is easy to see it as an older experienced celebrity trying to prey on younger vulnerable girls. I am not saying he did, but that is how it can be painted.ESPN is reporting that guys from his group were going out into the crowd and recruiting women to come back into the bar.Again none of this means he assaulted anyone, it is not illegal, and it is his right. BUT, the perception of him is changing. And with a pending civil suit where you are being accused of forcing yourself on someone, this is a really poor place to put yourself. He does not need to apologize for being a tanghound. But doing it while there is a lawsuit pending is pretty damn dumb. And on top of that none of us here know that he is innocent. The public is going to decide if THEY think he did it based on information about him and the kind of person he is. For a segment of the population these facts will indict him. Does that matter? That's up to Ben, the steelers, and the companies that use Ben to push their products.
You certainly have a right to believe what you want but anyone basing their opinions on the incident on the information given so far is being unfair to both parties.I don't believe for a second that this girl had any motive other than to get the hell away from him when he took his advances too far, and my guess is that sexual assault did occur.
So often money determines what justice ends up being served. Since I'm not in any way involved in the case, I don't have to be fair or unbiased based on what is "proven." I choose to put the pieces together that have been reported to come up with a conclusion, unfettered by Ben's expensive lawyers or testimony of witne$$es who may have in$entive to lean Ben's way. I've been around the block and am not innocent to the way things really work in this world, and if I'm being unfair to poor ol' horndog Ben, so be it.You certainly have a right to believe what you want but anyone basing their opinions on the incident on the information given so far is being unfair to both parties.I don't believe for a second that this girl had any motive other than to get the hell away from him when he took his advances too far, and my guess is that sexual assault did occur.
As I said you have a right to believe what you want. So far no charges have been filed by the police doing the investigation though I suppose you think they are on the take as well.Maybe Ben screwed her in the hallway/bathroom of a nightclub or perhaps she filed a false police report or is overreacting. At this point there are only a handful of people that know: Roethlisberger, the victim, the people that were there and of course you.So often money determines what justice ends up being. As someone mentioned earlier this is standard procedure. They will be looking for any evidence to back up her claim. It could be DNA, bruises, scratches, bite marks, etc.I am so out of the loop on sexual harassment, but if it wasnt rape then what "could have" happened that she needed to go to the hospital for?

No, I think they are awaiting results from the lab and want to conclude their investigation before there are charges.Look, you can pretend to be naive about things, that's your prerogative. He's your team's Super Bowl hero QB. But I'm guessing if it were Michael Vick involved here instead, you wouldn't have such an open mind. Yes, I have an opinion. I didn't say I KNOW. I said I have an opinion. And even if this whole thing magically goes away or he wins in court, I'll still have an opinion. That opinion will be that Ben had more money to win with than this poor girl did. And in my mind Ben will still be a predator, and the girl still a victim.

What do you think I'm fishing for exactly? I'm stating my belief. Whether anyone wants to respond to it or not, I really don't give a rat's patutie. But I tell you what, there are a lot of people reading this thread who will agree with me whether they'll openly say it or not.So often money determines what justice ends up being served.
