Roy Williams offically traded to Dallas (1 Viewer)

This link says "The Cowboys will give up a first-round pick in 2009, plus a third- and sixth-rounder that year for Williams and a seventh-round pick in '09."
ESPN changed the story. They (and Werder) reported that the trade was for a 2009 2nd rounder and a 2010 2nd rounder. Looks like they were OFF -- and by a lot. A quick change of the link and I guess ESPN tries to come out smelling like a rose. They missed this one.Kudos to Schefter for getting the compensation correct (although I guess he failed to mention the 7th rounder).

Dallas WAY OVERPAID. I guess they felt guilty for the Herschel Walker trade and wanted to make amends. Detroit makes out like badits.

Shefter just stated it was a 1st 3rd and 6th
If this is correct, Jerry Jones is well on his way to becoming the George Steinbrenner of the NFL. Considering that the "mortgage the future to acquire marquee superstars" model didn't work in MLB, I can't imagine this will end well for the Cowboys in a league with a salary cap.If you want to trade a 1, 3 and 6, why not get a quality corner to replace the giant void left by Pac-Man and Terence Newman?
:excited: Cowboys still have zero chance of winning the superbowl this year.
Umm because Scandrick and Jenkins can do the job for 4 weeks till Newman gets back and Dallas needed a #2 wr very bad. Now they can move Crayton back to the slot cause he is not a #2 in any way. This is a good move for Dallas. Now if Newman does not come back this year it will hurt but maybe Pacamn comes back as well. I hope not I want him gone. Roy Williams will be a positive move and now doubling Owens Witten will be much harder with Roy There. You can't tell me this is a bad move. Anyways I am sure some will say it was a terrible move. The more that shows up on posts that s was a terrible move the better move I know it was. If Philly got Roy Williams it would be the best move ever, lol

From RotoWorld:

Cowboys acquire Roy Williams from Lions

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that the Cowboys have acquired Roy Williams from the Lions for a first, third, and sixth-round draft pick.

Because the one thing they are missing is a diva wide receiver with an expiring contract. That is a huge bounty for Detroit, especially when no one else wanted Williams. The move smacks of desperation on the heels of an ugly weekend in Dallas, but Williams helps Brad Johnson's chances for short-term success. Still, there are only so many targets to go around. Williams is going to be the third receiving option in a loaded offense and will remain inconsistent. His fantasy stock does goes up for the stretch run once Tony Romo returns. Patrick Crayton takes the biggest hit on the team, but T.O. and Jason Witten will also lose some targets. Oct. 14 - 4:03 pm et

they'll likely piss away those picks

3 picks for a guy who was gone after next year anyway and drops 5 balls a game? This is what Detroit without Millen is going to be like? I must be dreaming!
:goodposting: that was funny, but even funnier when I stare at the picture of Dwight in your avatar.
Yes, I find that all his posts are funnier because I imagine Dwight saying them in a concerned tone with eyebrows raised.
:lmao:what's funny is I do too :lmao:

As a Giants fan I love it. Total desperation by the boys. They gave up the farm for the most overrated WR in the NFL. :goodposting:

Understatement of the century.Quite possibly one of the worst trades i've ever seen in the NFL. Dallas just got slaughtered. Even a straight 1st was too much considering they are going to have to sign ROY to a huge deal, adding in the other picks is just ridiculous.Hershall Walker part II...this could be the start of the Cowboy implosion.

Martin Mayhew's first major move as Lions GM is an absolute steal.I wonder what his chances of keeping the job are.

Ok without going back and forth about if Dallas gave up to much to get Roy Williams because it is a waste of time. Will Roy be able to play this week and how does this affect Brad Johnson? I am thinking Dallas might go to throwing the ball to much now with the big 3 wr's/te and no Felix. Any thoughts on how the Dallas offense looks till they get back to 100% after 3 games.

Oh yeah!

Guys can we please use one thread -- the other one has three pages.......use that one please.
Staff or the OP need to update the title if that one is going to be the one thread for discussing it.For big news like this, there needs to be a thread somewhere with it in the title so you don't pass it by thinking there's nothing new on the topic.

I think Dallas had 10-12 picks in the 2009 draft. Given their current roster, I don't see how half of those picks make the team. Is it really that awful to deal away three of those picks for a guy you know you can use on your roster for the next 6-7 years?

The Lions still have to draft with those picks. Good luck with that. Will they know how to handle picks that aren't in the top 5 of every round?

Not sure Roy's value goes up. He is now the #3 option in the passing game, compared to #2 in Detroit. I agree TO's takes a hit, Witten's probably stays the same if not goes up. Calvin's goes way up, agreed.

I realize Felix is a talent but do you think a 40 year old QB is going to sling it with Barber as the primary back? I see a slight tick toward Barber in terms of carries, but his production (aka room to run) hinges upon having Johnson keep them honest. I just don't think they will be throwing the ball and foregoing the run game by any means. JMO.

DUDE come on I believe in the moves that my team makes it has gotten them to the position that they have as much talent as they have now. I know a lot of people hate the Cowboys and that is cool but whatever they do it is always seen as negative. I mean come on they needed a #2 wr real bad and the offense has struggled all season and lately Owens is getting doubled all the time cause Crayton can't get open and nobody fears him beating them. So what does Jones do he goes out and makes a move to upgrade that position. I mean I bet most fans would love if they had a owner that cared as much as Jones does. I think that is where the hate comes from cause he gets what he wants player wise while other teams sit on the sideline whining.

It depends who they hire.

That is a good point. That was one of the reasons the Chargers gave up a bunch of picks to move up a few years ago and select Weddle - they had a stacked roster. Still, I believe it is a good move for the Lions and an ok one for the Boys. I think Williams, while physically gifted, is more hype than production. He is a better #2 than Crayton, but I don't see him making the Cowboys that much more e. This seems to be more of a luxury move given the need for a defensive back.

I guess I meant this year anyways for Roy W. He hadn't realy done anything up to this point this year anyways.Crayton finally has a nice game or two here lately and is pushed aside.

It's good to see that Jerruh's reverting to form now in the post-Parcells era, now that Parcells and all of his disciples and their college player evaluation are all gone or used up. Welcome to the Joey Galloway trade, part 2.

Who's "they"? We don't even know who the GM and coach will be on draft day yet. All we know is Millen won't be involved.

All I'm pointing out is that 3 picks in the back end of their respective rounds are in no way sure things.Bird in hand > two in bush

You really should not be worried about what Dallas does just be worried about if that defense of yours when faced with a good offense can stop it. Cause this year you have faced one maybe two(Cincy) and pretty much failed. Right now you are the best but not by as much as you think you are. Good luck to your Giants I mean it. No hate here.

Does anyone actually think that it takes more than single coverage to cover Roy Williams any more?
Maybe just maybe Roy Williams struggled in Detroit because they blow and every player there struggles Kitna throwing the ball is not Romo. In Dallas it will be different I am sure. I do not think he is a fantasy star but he will contribute a lot for sure in real life football.

True Williams helps the Cowboys get better this year - but how much? Can he really be effective immediately without knowledge of the playbook? It will take a few weeks at least to get him to digest enough of the playbook to make a difference; and, at that time, Romo will be back and he has to adjust to a new QB.The COwboys have essentially bet a 1st, 3rd, 6th and 7th rounder that they will win the Super Bowl. If they can cash in, it ends up being a good bet. However, while they are a contender, I don't think they will win it all this year. If that is the case, then they paid a 1st, 3rd, 6th and 7th round pick for a player they could have gotten for nothing (although a lot of $$) during the offseason. At this juncture of the season, and knowinng that he was a free agent next year, my thought was that a 2nd rounder was more then adequate. Of course, I guess that's why I am neither a GM n or an owner of an NFL franchise.

Oddly enough, the Lions realized that Jones really wanted Williams and took advantage of Jones in the process. THE LIONS!! WOW.

Maybe Jones is trying to help the LIons GM get the job permanently.

Yeah I know Dallas had a TERRIBLE DRAFT THIS YEAR RIGHT

I'm fairly certain Dallas wouldn't dream of offering a #1 for Roy Williams.

If anything that's Detroit fabricating to try and drive up the price on a guy that only one team might want to deal for.
Anything over a 3 + 5 is overpaying IMO
two #2s is a good deal

#1 #3 and #6 is overpaying unless you're moving someone else's picks
I think Dallas had 10-12 picks in the 2009 draft. Given their current roster, I don't see how half of those picks make the team. Is it really that awful to deal away three of those picks for a guy you know you can use on your roster for the next 6-7 years?

:wall: Kind of funny following the progression of a homer...

I don't think that this hurts anyone's numbers on the Cowboys. Crayton isn't quite good enough to be the #2 receiver in Dallas. I think that he will do much better in the #3 position. TO will get some relief from double teams, and Roy will be on an Offense that can throw to him. Witten will always be needed and used... this does nothing but help the Cowboys in every way... offensively. If you were relying on Miles Austin or Sam Hurd... then you probably aren't going too far this year anyways.

However... that would be an awsome 5 receiver set for the cowboys. TO, R. Williams, Crayton, Austin, and Hurd.
