Runnin' with MJD - XM Radio (1 Viewer)

Did anybody catch the latest episode over the weekend? I was absolutely shocked at the attitude that MJD had on there. When the host repeatedly questioned him about his knee and how fantasy owners are rightfully concerned about it heading into the season, his responses were downright pompous and condescending. He said things like 'well, why should they be concerned, I have missed only 2 games in my entire career' and so forth. When questioned about it again, he seemed to get agitated and kept repeating the 'only 2 games' mantra. I just felt his whole attitude came off as brash and downright rude at times. I really felt sorry for the host. It was painful to listen to at times. I listened to his show last year and he wasn't like that.

Um Maurice, when you hear things like 'bone on bone' and microfacture surgery, most people have every right to be concerned. Your play last year clear showed it at times.

I get what you are saying but I have a feeling the guy is tired of hearing about the knee. I know I would by now.

From what I have heard, this is kind of his radio persona and he was probably just giving the host a hard time.

I heard it and I did not get that at all. I thought he was defending himself as an elite back and wants everyone to know how tought he has been and the knee is not going to slow him down. as the other hsot said, he has a chip on his shoulder right now because everyone is questioning him. I think he is very down to earth guy.

There are actually two camps of thought here in Jacksonville on the MJD situation. Before jumping into that I would also add that during the Bills game there was also a weird moment when MJD was being interviewed. When asked about playing Thursday and what he hoped to prove he was extremely noncommittal, shruging off the question with a "we'll see" type answer.

Camp 1: MJD is more hurt than he or the Jags are saying. He has serious, potentially long term knee issues that will at least limit his production moving forward.

Camp 2: MJD is fine and the Jags are holding him out to limit the damage he takes when the games don't matter. This camp also suggests that the weird responses MJD has given recently are due to him being sick of the questions, wanting to play but having to sit.

I'm more in camp 2 at this point. I have to believe that if MJD was facing long term damage that would limit him the Jaguars would have been a lot more active in pursuing a proven RB. Jennings is nice, but he's been hurt and is not proven. Behind Jennings it get worse quickly as Karim has looked okay at times but would be a huge risk as your RB2. The Jags are a run first team, if MJD was seriously hurt I have to think they would have made a play at a replacement or at least better depth by now.

There was another thread about this a week or two back and I will echo that MJD has no business being a fantasy host. What you heard has been par for the course this season. He gets "offended" anytime someone calls up and asks if they should choose between ADP or Foster (or some variation), and effectively hangs up on them and implies they're fools for even asking the question -- because OF COURSE they should choose him. It's very sad.

It's amazing how quickly you are on top of the world one minute and then trying to hang on and prove you belong the next...

I seriously doubt he is really offended. It's all shtick to him. MJD is a very nice, humble guy that enjoys the limelight a little bit. That might not play in the radio format all that well for some listeners, but don't think that that means he some sort of diva. He's just having some fun and talking a little smack.

Never heard his radio show, but from interviews and other shows he's done he seems like a pretty humble person but that's just me.

A very good friend of mine was his high school teacher. She says he's a very humble guy, returns nearly every offseason to spend time with kids and do charity work in the area. He spends time with her 10 year old when he's around, brings him gear, etc. I don't think there is much to be made of MJD's comments on a low-budget local radio program.

Agree its schtick....but just to clarify, its a national show on XM radio. ETA: I'm new to the Fantasy Sports channel...I've been pretty impressed with the content overall, quality of the callers, and knowledge of the hosts.

That doesn't surprise me at all. MJD is a kind, humble, hard working guy that enjoys life. It seems that part of the joy for him is talking a little smack now and then, but you shouldn't take it too seriously.

Like MJD, but the show is horrible. Contradicts himself every second. It's a joke. And he was really defensive yesterday. Wasn't schtick. He kept referring to getting 1,300 rushing yards on "one leg". He then was asked "but what about the drop in touchdowns - will you get more of those or lose them again to Jennings?". MJD - "before you wanted yards, now you want touchdowns too?"...LOL

Last year, MJD's show was fun and he seemed to be having a good time with it. This season though, every episode turns into him getting angry that someone isn't drafting him in the first round, and him complaining about people not wanting to have him on their team because of the injury concerns.

I get that he's annoyed by constantly hearing about the issue, but he is coming off as a whiney baby this year.

I listen occassionally and his advice is worthless as far as I'm concerned. Hes'he number the 1 RB and I'm sure he'd tell you that Mike thomas is a great WR2. You bet MJD. thyat being said I drafted him @ 2.02 of a 12 team PPR league and grabbed R. Jennings in round 10.

Schtick is fine, but when you're "hosting" a show focused on FF, you should be able to talk your smack and THEN say "but seriously, let's talk about that #1 pick and the differences between Foster/ADP/Rice/etc."

I'm not a frequent listener, but the times I've tuned in, he really does just dismiss any questions about the first few picks because he's "offended" (real or schtick...doesn't really matter).

My favorite was a rant he went on the other day about how you should focus on history and look at his stats the past few years as justification for picking him #1. That's the exact OPPOSITE advice any FF'er needs. C'mon MJD, successful sharks are the one who keep history in perspective and focus on what's going to happen THIS year.

All that being said, I'm sure he's a swell fella in "real life", I just can't listen to his radio program anymore.

Agree completely and that's what I've been observing.

I agree with the OP. While it may be schtick, he sure came off as an ##### the other day. And he's not a very good host. I did enjoy his show a little bit last year, but I can hardly listen to it this year.

he knows more about the NFL than most of us here but less about fantasy football than most of us here
Interesting that you say that b/c it's so true. NFL football and fantasy football are so different. You can have players who are really good in real life but terrible in fantasy and vice versa. NFL players know so little about fantasy. Case in point, I have a guy in my building who played cornerback for UF and briefly for the Bucs in the 90s. Last year, he told me not to miss out on Golden Tate as a huge sleeper because he runs great routes and no one can catch him. Well we know how that turned out. And that's only one example of the bad advice he's given me. MID just seems to do the same thing at times.
